I’m sitting in a 4 hour queue right now to resubscribe. Nuts.

Ran some errands and came back with the login screen up. No idea how long its been up, but it was quite a bit less than the 2.5 hours that I started with. So logged in, and now I’m all Cata’d up. Whoot!

Yeah, I got home around 1AM last night, wanted to log in for 20 minutes, and instead found myself with an 800MB download, which confused me. Hopefully this is the last big patch we’ll get before C-Day.

Just spent about an hour emptying my quest log, clearing out my bank, and selling off a bunch of equipment. Now just need to do that for about 4 more characters…

If you care about leveling speed, don’t empty out your quest log. In fact, best to load it up with 25 quests that give xp.

But realistically, who is going to stick around in Icecrown to finish up old quests when there is a new zone to explore?

You could do the objectives but not hand them in yet.

I caved in and resubbed (for a month, don’t know if I’ll last longer than that) and upgraded to Cataclysm. I also got the Android Authenticator app. It’s a PITA to have to have my phone ready and available every time I want to log in but I figure it’s free and probably a good idea.

I have zero idea what is going on in the game these days though. I sort of fiddled around respeccing a character or two, got lost in Org (where is the freakin’ bank these days??) and preloaded the new stuff I guess.

What ways of buying an authentication device are there?

I have a mobile phone from the pre-modern era, so mobile phone apps won’t work. I also don’t have a credit card, so the blizzard store might not work.

Well how upsetting, the catackalism video has been removed by the user and I was going to show it to a friend.

Sad days indeed!

They have a dial-up authenticator; they used to and may still have a hardware thingy authenticator too. I really am not sure, though; I just snagged the mobile ap because it was free.

Thanks, too bad the dial-in authenticator is U.S. only. Guess I’ll have to wait and pray until I either get a mobile phone compatible with the device or until they add a payment method which I can use.

My mains are loaded with 25 quests to hand in in Icecrown and Stormpeaks.
Easy XP and I had nothing to do the last weeks anyways.

What’s the general opinion on this expansion from the people that tried the beta?

I have 25 completed quests sitting on one main. I just didn’t have it in me to do it multiple times.

It’s a serious step forward in making the game a more immersive experience at lower levels, and quality of life improvements for all levels.

If you don’t have characters at level 80, you get almost all of the new improvements for “free” already without buying the expansion, with the recent patches. Now is a great time to start a new character, with the revamped old zones providing a massive amount of content to go through.

At the high end, the level 80-85 zones are detailed and lovely in their own way; Blizzard’s quest guys just keep getting better at what they do. The dungeon and raid design is a bit more thoughtful than Cataclysm; certainly the first tier of dungeon/raid content at level 85 is better than what was available for new level 80s in Lich King. But it’s very much more of the same overall.

In short, if you had a subscription before and are curious about how things look, it’s a great time to resubscribe and check out the revamped world and polished gameplay/UI. For people who don’t already have a level 80 character, there’s little reason to buy the expansion yet; nearly all the changes for lower level characters are available without having the expansion. If you get a character up near 80, at that point it would be worth buying the expansion, to continue. (One big caveat is if you want to play a Goblin or Worgen character, of course; those require buying the expansion.)

Today I did a random on my alt mage, Spellvira, and was grouped up with a QT3’er from another server! We had an epic, two-fail tank run in BRD that ended only when the tank, after the group decided to go back to finish a quest, stopped moving and didn’t respond to any chats or tells. But a great run, gnome priest Fozzome! What’re the odds?

I was just noticing today how lovely the new music is in Mulgore and while riding the zeppelin (goblin themed I assume). WoW has always had good music, but it gets better with each expansion. I don’t know what it will sound like in the new zones, but the new music for the existing areas is top notch. That’s another department at Blizzard that seems to get better every time, as long as they stay away from shouting choruses.

Not sure that quest is still in as for me the UC Throne Room is empty but I hope it is phased or something now:

(The Lament of the Highborne)

Amazing music and worth making an Undead alt for!

I love the UC throne room - In case you didnt know, if you stand still, you can hear the voices of the old king, and Arthas, and the clatter as the crown falls to the ground after Arthas beheads his father.
