That is correct ;).
Actually, I did barely anything in The Storm Peaks. When/if I level another toon to 80, I’ll tackle that stuff.

To start, you can keep cooking Fish Feasts if you still have old mats sitting around, which got my rogue from 450-470.
So far, I haven’t seen many cooking items in the earlu zone drops, other than Basilisk Liver. So if you’re looking to get a jump on cooking, fishing is the way to go. A lot of the items in the lake next to the starting point in Hyjal have new recipes associated with them, although you’ll need to do some cooking dailies to before you can but the recipes.
I thought the Tame a Seahorse quest was a lot better than the Sons of Hodir quest that was similar. The latter seemed inordinately hard to get the timing right on (perhaps it was the inclusion of the little icons on the seahorse quest; were those on the Hodir quest?).

You can also get random meat from the Crate of Tasty Meat, which you buy from the Cooking Daily quest giver. They cost two tokens to buy, and I think there’s 2-5 pieces of meat in it.

The Hodir quest had you stabbing the drake repeatedly before choosing when to pry open its mouth. The seahorse quest is basically pattern-recognition/matching a la DDR. You could fall to your death in Hodir but I don’t see any risk to the Seahorse one.
Too bad it’s not the leaping from dragon to dragon badass quest that led to the Hodir dailies.
What’s wrong is that they bumped the level of XP for Northrend mobs, in order to encourage people to move up to Northrend instead of hanging around Outland. Now that the new 10% system is in place, they no longer have to bump the XP that way, so there shouldn’t be such a drastic difference between mobs of different levels.

I’d agree for the most part with the 25 hours timeline. I didn’t read up and wasn’t in the beta and I’d guess it will take me 5 hours or so for 80-81 with 2 instance runs (only 1 with quests).

Some detractors about the narrative:

The Magni/Cairne deaths could have been handled better in-game.

Well I’m really pissed because my Horde character can’t get the breadcrumb to Vash anymore and when I finally figured out a way to actually fly/swim to Vash, there were no quests there that I could see. I originally went to the hero board and chose the Hyjal quest. I started doing it, but then I started doing the Hyjal questline on my Alliance character. So I decided I wanted to do the Vash questline on my Horde character and the breadcrumb quest to the Vash questline is no longer on the board.
I don’t think I like this guided tour stuff much. Phasing is OK when you still can retain the choices we had in WotlK. This seems like a real step back in quest development, particularly seeing as I can’t even make a different choice very easily.

submit a ticket.
i abandoned both my breadcrumb quests to each zone after taking the boat/dragon and was able to re-pickup them at sw dock/moonglade.
I actually read (and enjoyed) The Shattering, but I too was surprised that they skipped over a fair bit of those events in game. So far it seems the most info about the political problems actually come in the voice-over of the little video that plays when you first start a new character.
I can understand why people don’t like the underwater zone, since it can be disorienting to travel around, but I love it. My wife and I played from 80-81 this afternoon there, did about 50 quests, and had a ton of fun. There’s some neat quests, you get that sweet seahorse mount, and the scenery is gorgeous.

I have a hard time getting my bearings underwater. I agree they handled it well, but having all those additional directions makes orientation difficult.

Is Blizzard still having that sale on the download versions of WoW, or was that just a Thanksgiving thing? I can’t find that link now…
Just a Thanksgiving sale, I believe. :(

Yeah it’s beautiful, but there’s a few annoyances beyond just disorientation. For example, it’s pretty hard to use targeted spells like the Mage’s Water Elemental freeze aoe. I often enter the ‘inns’ but the game doesn’t recognize them as resting areas. Oh and in order to drink you have to swim to the bottom (but really, who drinks anymore?).
My choice was to level my mage in Hyjal and leave Vashjir for my priest.

No, it really seems the intent is to ensure you can’t skip buying the 2 expansions to just get ‘the current stuff’.
You already can’t skip buying the 2 expansions, can you? I thought you can’t even get experience past 60 without buying TBC.

but what if you bought cataclysm?
