That’s correct, all you need is a summons to the entrance in order to discover it.

I only did enough of Vashj’ir to get the seahorse mount, then I gtfo. I’m predisposed to hate swimming. That being said, I’m not really digging Hyjal and plan to go back to Vashj’ir after completing it. I imagine I’ll hate the swimming the whole time.

I did Blackrock Caverns and Throne of Tides last night with a guild group. Both were pretty good.

Of course, the real question is will I still feel the same way after my 50th heroic run?

Time And Relative Dimension In Space, Sucka?

Vash’jir is beautiful but at least 2 quests are pretty broken.
One you have to WAIT for the 2 NPCs to spawn and go to a chamber with you. If you mount up and go yourself you won’t be able to complete the quest. Costed myself and quite some others around me 30-40 min running around and killing shit in hope of a drop that might be needed unless I finally checked on Wowhead (Nespia quest btw.).

The 2nd broken quest didn’t let me into a room with a phased barrier as the event to enter it was broken (Forward Horde camp).
After multiple times abandoning / taking the quest I checked WoWhead again and there people said it’s broken.
Some guy said he suicided and rezzed inside so this netted me my first death in Cata thanks Blizzard.
Once rezzed inside I could continue the quest line.

I also hear that another quest is broken (Defending the Rift) so more fun in front of me it seems.

Yeah, that’s something I find really strange about the worgen in general, although it does make a certain amount of sense. The stories from the worgen starting zone continue in Silverpine, which is a Horde zone. If you want to find out what happened to all those dudes like Crowley, you have to go reroll.

But it doesn’t even feel like swimming and you get around pretty fast. It’s best to think of it like flying, but underwater. I was worried when I first heard that there would be a whole underwater zone, but I think they did a pretty good job avoiding making it feel like the typical sluggish, floaty video game water zone.

I find that the main problem with the swimming in Vashj’ir is that you wind up getting attacked from every angle now, especially with the rapid respawns due to how busy it is right now. Fortunately you can just blow past monsters once you get the seahorse mount.

Uldum is my favorite zone so far, even with the excessive amount of cutscenes. It does really give the zone the feel of a single player game though, which is kinda nice. The whole epic Harrison Jones storyline is probably my favorite quest chain ever.

Stonecore wasn’t too bad, there are a lot of people who don’t like it, but I thought the scenery was a nice change, and there are a lot of new models and some great old ones from BC that are brought out again.

I barely touched Vash’jir, only going there long enough to get the seahorse, tabard, and dungeon entrance. I plan on going back after I hit 85 though!

Exactly. The seahorse acts just like a flying mount, except you float in place instead of falling to the ground after dismounting in “mid air”.

I can understand that some people might find questing in three dimensions disorienting, but I’m really enjoying it so far. And did I mention how amazingly awesome the zone looks? I haven’t been this impressed with the beautiful vistas in WoW since I explored the Storm Peaks for the first time.

I don’t know how many people in the thread are ex-DAoC players off the top of my head, but I know a lot of people who played the Trials of Atlantis expansion pack for that game are probably still traumatized over an expansion that took place mostly underwater. :P

Noooooooooooooooooooooo!! The memories…

You don’t. But the first time I play through stuff I like to do it in story order if possible. Plus I was having fun with the Vash’Jir story and would like to do it all in appropriate order.

… unless you only want to see the end of the story arc, in which case you can do a run through Shadowfang Keep. Which I found out, pre-Cataclysm, when I ran my Paladin through there as part of a class-specific quest. Whoops! Not sure how you’re supposed to get all the context for that quest even if you’re a Worgen, though, since I was following roughly the same quest arc that the Worgen are herded through, as the Draenei also get pointed to Ashenvale pretty quickly.

Also, walking through Gilneas pre-Cataclysm was an odd experience. Near as I could tell, it was completely empty. Just tons of Undead war machines sitting around, and a big ol’ empty city in the middle of the map. You’d think that they would have just kept the doors closed until the 7th, but apparently not.

I think you’ll enjoy Vash’Jir if you take the time to experience it and follow the quests, then. My feeling has been that whatever group they have doing the heavily phased, gated, story-progression type content has gotten really quite close to the whole “I want all the other players, but I want it to feel like a single player game” dynamic. I’m halfway through level 82 not because I’m trying to level, but because it’s an incidental aspect of doing the stuff to see where the story is going.

It was jarring to play through until level 9 in the Worgen starting area, what with all of it’s cut-scene interjection, and feel far less of this. Seems like the low level experience is where this would be the easiest since you have so much more control over the player experience, but while the tech in the worgen area seems neater (things phase and change more or less “behind your back” while Vash’Jir seems to require putting you in a totally different phase and then when you come back things have changed), the actual worgen story is a lot less compelling. Maybe it’s just a matter of timing (in that you can’t be level 1-10 for very long…). One day I’ll check out the goblin starting area for comparison.

I quickly got bored with the worgen starting area. The goblin area is awesome in comparison.

ML3 will rot in hell.

Ugh. I’d probably still be playing DAoC if they hadn’t forced me to start levelling my pants.

My girlfriend is raged over the Worgen starting area. She says things respawn just as fast as she can kill them.

They did. Also I thought the quest you get at like level 4 which sends you through a bunch of aggro werewolves that will peel off of the scripted “flavor” NPCs and attack you was a bit much. I’ve played this game a lot and that’s the first time since I started that I died sub level 5 since my very first character. I didn’t do anything wrong, the game just was asking a whole lot from a priest who had 2 spells at that point.

Overall the Worgen starting area feels rather rushed and unpolished. Kind of like the B-Team got handed it.
