I just looked at the spec trees, and while you can’t pick up both the 30% chance and the increased crit chance, you’re right about the damage boost that you give yourself.

How much of a DPS loss it is, I don’t know, but you’re right; retadins could throw out some clutch heals.

As an Elemental Shaman, I basically can’t; my big heal lands for less than 10% of a tank’s health and costs a tenth of my entire mana pool, which I can’t spare. Healing Rain costs even more than that!

Are restos still the only shaman that can decurse? Because man, that’s annoying.

Poison Cleansing still exists as a totem though, right?

No more cleansing totems.

Can’t be all they nerfed. I was going mana dry much faster last night.

Sadface!

Removing curses, all Shaman can do.

Poisons, magic, and disease, on the other hand, Elemental/Enhancement cannot remove.

All cleansing totems are gone. This is even lampshaded by an NPC in Vashj’ir.

Isn’t it lampooned in the battle inside the Maw of Madness?

On the clutch heals thing, I personally believe that alive dps that is doing sub optimal damage by throwing out a heal every now and then as needed is better than great dps that’s dead. Healers don’t have unlimited mana, and when it runs out the raid will wipe.

The 12% for healing someone else with WoG is still a loss in dps, it just helps lessen the amount of loss. In a perfect world, throwing out a WoG to someone would be not needed, but then, not everybody plays at premonition’s level.

As a pally tank, I find WoG a lifesaver and critical at extending healer’s mana pools.

they nerf a heck alot more than just aoe on holy pally, they nerf the tower of radiance talent which was allowing pally to get Holy power by casting holy light on their beacon target, which means they can easily gain holy power with cheap spell like holy light which allowing them to cast their instant heal word of glory for free much more than possible.

They nerf it this patch so holy pally no longer gain holy power by casting heal on beacon target, they will only gain HP if they cast divine light or flash of light which both are incredibly expensive.

Anyways, after playing resto shaman, disc priest and holy priest, Holy priest take number 1 spot in heroic so far, especially blood elf priest, simply because 10k+ mana gain per boss fight from Blood elf racial = awesome!!!

It was. The shaman laments the ban of totemic cleansing stating “No one ever stood in range anyways.”

My mage is level 83 and I’m playing through Deepholm, about 75% of the way through, and I hate it so bad I’m thinking of quitting.

I keep telling myself, “it’s just this zone, it has to be, right?!” I have much more fun playing my worgen druid.

Hm… I really like Deepholm. To each their own I guess.

Anyway you don’t have to stay there, just go to Uldum (which you should be able to do at 83).

So…leave Deepholm?

  1. Doesn’t surprise me and depresses me. I’m sure its better with gear and more healers but it kills blizz’s notions of a new challenge/triage. High HP doesn’t mean much when your healing output is peanuts and mana costs are huge while mana regen is weak. The triage strategy has been in the game since release. GC’s use of that term is just cover for how horrid and unrealistic their new healing system is let alone how boring and frustrating it is. Now healers are pretty much forced to let dps die and not just from dps standing in a fire.

  2. Thats not what I’d call a random pug though. Even two guildies/friends who play together increase your chances of success. The very idea of the LFD system is ruined by blizzard’s new rules and ideas for challenging content aka CC being required. You can’t shame people to learn except over a long time since there are no repercussions, we’re all on different servers. I figured pugs would be painful for 3-6 months in Cata but I’m less hopeful that it will get better at all. First week of content and dps queues are 20-40minutes? Healers have instant queues, tanks 1-5 mins…

Grats on the boss kill, sadly my guild is not leveling fast enough to get even a balanced 10man into a raid yet. I’m not much in the mood to try either though.

Edit: Healers complaining about interrupts killing dps numbers just makes me sad. I wanna say that response is only a result of the healer mana problems but there are folks that dumb.

In a few months, everybody will outgear 5 mans, and PUGs will be a lot easier.

Unrealistic? People are beating content. Top guilds are 12/12. If you think it’s not fun, that’s like your opinion, man. But calling it “unrealistic” is total bullshit. Pretty sure I’ve tanked heroic dungeons in mostly 333 gear and lived to tell the tale.

What? Do you regularly get grouped with DPS who flatly refuse to use and not break CC? Because the few I’ve run into are pretty darn easy to kick and replace via LFD. And I’m pretty sure that the kicked DPS aren’t super excited to get booted and have to get back in the queue. Honestly, I don’t understand this one.

I’m only 84 and I’ve only done a handful of Cataclysm dungeons so far (the first four dungeons you hit, normal mode only), but I haven’t experienced the same level of mana loss that people are describing here. Maybe that’s a heroic thing only? But I learned to heal in WOTLK heroics where everyone was far better geared than I was, so perhaps I already know the tricks to maximize my mana anyway. For a healing pally I basically spam Holy Light (unless even that isn’t required), sprinkle Holy Shock and use Word of Glory when things get hairy. On the rare occasions when that’s not enough, I use Divine Light, but try to use it sparingly as that’s a real mana drainer. I almost never use Flash of Light, as Holy Light seems to do the same thing for less.

The new AOE heal that I got at 83 is really fun to use and seems good too, but I’m not experienced enough with it yet to really know how well it works.

While I’m not a healer, I didn’t notice much problems with our healers untill the 84+ normal dungeons, forcing us to start using CC. On the heroic level, shit just hits hard and healers have a hard time keeping up until the item level averages out to the 340 range.

Also it will immensly depend on the dps of the group and the gear of the tank. I started heroics at, buffed, 125k hp, and it was rough. Now I’m sitting at 170k+ buffed, 150 unbuffed, and instances go much smoother.

that new aoe heal just got nerfed 40%.

It’s pretty bad if you don’t like Deepholm because it seems to be the one mandatory zone if you plan to do any endgame activities. Without Therazine (sp?) rep, you don’t get shoulder enchants, which as of right now are not bind-on-account. That means if you don’t do it at all, no shoulder juice for you unless you’re a scribe. Even if you run the quest line all the way to the end, you still aren’t exalted and either need the Deepholm dailies or the tabard.
