So I’ve decided I’m not a fan of zones in which Alliance and Horde share the same quest givers and quests, because what happens is I and some random Hordie end up doing the same quests at the same time, and leaving them alone just results in them ganking me, so I need to gank them first. Except they’ll probably come back while I’m doing the quest, so I’ll need to gank them again (or be on the receiving end, which is even more fun). This is…suboptimal.

Any suggestions for a zone in which that isn’t true? I’m just about done with Thousand Needles and am level 46 (alliance, feral druid).

Re: Ferals being op in PvP, is that just at the level cap? And if it isn’t, um, any advice? I’ve had my ass handed to me by equal level hunters, paladins, and warriors.

While I see where you’re coming from, my feelings are the exact opposite. The quests are dreadful, so the ganking makes the whole experience almost bearable. If it wasn’t for the challenge (and opportunity) of contested spawns, I think I’d fall asleep entirely gathering eight shark fins or whatever.

What, if any, add-ons would be recommended. Been a while since I played, gonna reroll a character and try out the new starting zones before going back to my old rogue character, and don’t need any add-ons right now, but wondering what others would recommend.

I’d recommend playing with Quartz (if you’re a caster) for the castbar, and otherwise, no addons at all.

A PvE server? :)

I don’t use many add-ons, since Blizzard has done a good job at adding good add-on ideas into the basic interface. I only have Auctioneer and Postal, since it makes the AH experience much simpler.

for me, it’s Mapster/tellmewhen/healbot/quartz/SCT/Atlasloot/ArkInventory.

Arkinventory allow you auto sort, mapster let you have map open and able to see what’s on your screen.

Outside of the arguments about healbot being good for raiding, I don’t think healbot is particularly useful for a character in the starting zones. :)

The others, I could see.

The people who created Wowwiki have moved on to Wowpedia.org and no longer update Wowwiki.

Oh, I meant more like a book for a last-minute gift.

I just recently had to re-learn what add-ons are good. I spent days trying to work it out. What a PITA!

Auctioneer - I hate having to research each and every item I put on the AH. Let auctioneer do that for you. It was enough to earn me 2000 gold by level 60 without having to look up anything.

Dominos - Gets rid of the griffons and opens up all the custom action bars. It has a casting bar to. I ended up using Quartz for the casting bar but I don’t think its necessary.

Some kind of mail mod. I used CTmod for this, but I’d assume others are fine. Being able to open dozens of mails at once is a big time saver.

Some other cool ones, but not necessary:

Healbot - Any healing class can use it, even solo. A single left click or right click to heal can help a lot in a pinch. For any kind of grouping its almost required.

X-Perl unit frames - Lets you see more info about the target and it looks cool. Customization is a bitch though with about a bazzilion options.

Those were all the ones I found useful while leveling up although there are a few others that might be good for grouping later on. Oh, you can get all these mods from Curse.

This is the best posting I’ve seen for addons. It’s from somethingawful.com, where you may have to be registered to read it. But it’s comprehensive and should let most people make decisions on what they want to use.

I’ve always liked vranx.com to get ideas for which addons might be good to try. Seems to be still updated fairly regularly.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but Tidy Plates with Threat Plates is fantastic. On my rogue it’s nice to know when I have or are close to taking aggro.

On my prot paly its nice to know when I’ve lost aggro on a mob and just click the plate and taunt.

Wow. Talk about an over-fix for the Tol Barad issue. In the upcoming fix, winning as an attacker (ie, taking TB) is worth 1800 Honor. Defending it is worth 180 honor.

Don’t expect TB to remain in the same hands very often. Why defend it twice (and get 360 honor) when you can lose it and take it back for 1875+ Honor (75 honor for losing)

Yeah, I don’t get the rationale for this. They’re basically encouraging win trading, and weren’t arena teams getting banned for that?

There’s always the possibility that the defending faction will still defend just to keep the attacking side from getting their big honor payoff, but I find that unlikely. Heck, win Tol Barad twice as an attacker and you’re almost already at the honor cap… and that can be done in the span of what, six hours?

It’s not much of a band aid to be honest… I can only hope that are actively working on a real solution for TB.

Jesus that’s stupid.

Also stupid: the lack of goddamn relics until the VP one. Grumble grumble.

That Tol Barad change isn’t going to change anything. The incentive to hold it is still greater, and you can’t have win trading in a place like Tol Barad, where anyone on the server can queue for it. You can’t form a premade group for it.

Been playing this since Cataclysm dropped and had some observations/questions.

I had a mid level character already and picked her back up and started going big on Skinning and getting Heavy Leather. And now I’m rich. I have mostly just harvested leather as I do other quests…and at level 41, I have 600+ gold and don’t really have much else I’d like to purchase. Are everyones servers like this? I’m seeing stacks of Heavy Leather sell for 60gp most times. Very easy to make money these days…

I see that Cartographer is no more (I LOVED this program). The only real solution for a new map seems to be Carbonite. The problem I have with it it’s kind of wonky. The minimap replacement isn’t great and I can’t get any of the mining/herbalism nodes to show up on the map at all (either on the minimap or the main map). Either ones it’ll load up or just tracking my history with Gatherer, nothing works. Is there another map program I can use? Or is Carbonite pretty much it?

I’m gaining levels super fast at this point, as everyone points out. Are than any dungeons I should try to hit on the way up? I’m a dual wielding shaman (Enhancement), so I’m basically DPS I’m gathering, which makes me think that’ll it take awhile to get into anything, so I wondering if I should bother or just wait until higher levels… I don’t want to be a healer, so I probably wouldn’t spec that way, but I’d go Elemental if that’d be better in a group too… Thoughts?

Overall, really liking the changes. Leveling is at a good pace, even in the 40’s (which was my big complaint back before BC). The new zones are fun, though all of the new stuff boils down to tightly packed go X, do Y, and Z while you’re there. Graphics are somewhat improved, though I haven’t seen any of the new lands (beyond the BC stuff, which is much improved over most of the old stuff, so I’m assuming the higher level lands are the same).
