A combination of stress/gear/spec requirements keeps people from playing tanks. Those who do, and do it well, pair off with a good group fairly quick and never have to queue again.

On my realm some tanks are selling queues. They will queue you for the heroic but then drop group once you zone in. Once they leave the group jumps to the top of queue and gets next available tank.
Not sure if any people actually take them up on there offer. I also see people advertising bot trash clears with first boe on reserve.
I dont mind tanking on my Druid but I will generally just queue as dps since it allows me to get my dailies done or farm herbs
My guild tanks do that with dps guildies as well (for free of course).
Then the tank logs off and level his alts while the others do a Heroic.
It’s disgusting but I’m not participating in the guild at all besides doing my dailies and logging off so I don’t bother confronting them!
Glyphed it lasts 21s, which is not an insignificant amount of time. And in PvP, it truly becomes “I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine” as I spam my strongest heals for 21s straight. This would assume, of course, that you’re horde, because my faction (alliance) is fucking retarded and just runs oor.

Yep I’m horde.
I don’t pvp as holy priest anyways, probably one of the worst pvp healing currently.
it’s so hard to die as holy priest with fade so I never bother to take SoR since I’m usually the last one to die.
don’t really have a mana issue with holy concentration/shadow fiend/hymn/blood elf racial, so dying to get mana to heal really isn’t a problem for me.
Pardon me for stroking my own ego for a second…
As of this writing, I’m the #10 world (and #4 US) Combat Rogue on World of Logs against Halfus Wyrmbreaker with 36k dps. :) That’s the first time I’ve ever cracked the top 10 on any fight.

I had the exact same experience… on my 3rd try. The first two times it bugged out and I got stuck inside the sub with literally nothing happening for half an hour! Yey!
Tanking is still easy. I hope they change nothing.

This.
So could change something about the dps tho, I keep getting idiots.

No one believes this apparently except the few (in relative terms) that are tanking. Also I think there are some out there who know how much they abuse tanks and who wouldn’t want that abuse themselves.
Why is it disgusting?
Tanking has become an industry. Really going through a dungeon for people as a geared tank can net you hundreds of gold (someone mentioned 800 above, which is way on the high end, but not impossible). Even just selling a tank queue (as long as you’re a tank-able class that has the ilvl for Heroics) is appreciated at least to the tune of 20-50 gold a person.
What’s that quote from Alpha Centauri again? “Human behavior is economic behavior,” right? It doesn’t make sense to be disgusted by tanks selling runs/queues any more than it does to get angry at people selling items for more than vendor cost.
Welcome to dikuMUD design. Blizzard tried, goshdarnit, but tanking will always be seen by the playerbase at large as a boring chore. EQ’s solution was to force classes into tanking roles (you can’t be a “DPS Warrior” in EQ, so if you want plate and big swords, grats, you’re a tank, even if you’re dual-wielding). It’s a different, and arguably more effective, approach. Want to look cool with a big sword and plate armor? The price is never being competitive DPS and always being a tank.
Not sure you understand the concept:
- Group of 5 guildies forms and uses LFD -> instant instance
- Tank leaves -> Group is ON TOP of the queue
- Next tank that will join LFD will be getting into that group and not even know what happens.
So the 3 dps + healer avoided the 20+ minutes waiting time and to me that is a disgusting tactic as if someone jumps queues in real life at a concert entrance or something.
I don’t know about disgusting, but it does seem thoroughly unnecessary. healer queues are only 3 or 4 minutes (on my servers), so that group wouldn’t have to wait long even w/out the help of the tank.
Anyone who abuses me as their tank will find themselves requeuing. DPS sometimes need to learn their place.
I don’t know if it is easy or not, I haven’t played a tank for several years.
An overwhelming majority of players find that playing a tank is not at all fun. This is a problem since a tank’s role is absolutely required to do about anythng once one reaches max level.
Last night I spent 40 minutes in a queue as DPS for a random heroic only to have it fall apart halfway through.
And to those that say, “queue only in guild”, that’s not much of a solution – tanks are rare everywhere.
I fully understand how it works. I sell the service.
Is it “unfair” to have 45 minute queues? Nope. A player chooses his role. If that player chose to pick a dime-a-million role, he shouldn’t be shocked when it takes 45 minutes for the captain to pick him for the dodgeball team.
If you want quick queues as dps, buy a tank. You’ll probably make more money running instant heroics than you pay the tank anyway.

I had one such group of 3 DPS piggybacking on their tank friend who immediately left, but then it got worse. After getting a new tank and doing the first 2 bosses + trash, the 3 dps guildies votekicked the (perfectly capable) tank and reinvited their tank friend so he could do the boss he wanted, and I assume finish to get his valor points having skipped most of the instance.
I was disgusted so I stayed in the group but afk and went to watch a movie, I hope they had to wait a good long while before they could get another healer.
Those were probably the worst 2 minutes of their lives!
Well even though this is being discussed in terms of the symptoms, this is really a design failure.
It is clearly not a desired outcome to make tanking something that is both necessary to the group but also significantly more difficult and therefore in short supply.
They’ve tried to tweak the design but ended up with another imbalance.
