After all, there are casual or returning players who don’t real tooltips or patch notes to know that they shouldn’t be wearing leather/cloth anymore.

Well, Sinestra is down. And her loot table is up! (Hey look, not a single piece suitable for a Balance Druid.)

Predictably, nobody is releasing boss strats / boss skills yet. I expect Paragon will release a video after they’ve killed her a second time, just to prove that it wasn’t a fluke.

In addition to the armor spec bonus, agi gear used to have +AP on it, so as you said leather gear could actually be decent for plate users.

In the category of people being funny, there was a DK in my guild with a Shadowmourne who acquired a full set of unwanted ICC-ish spell plate gear, and gemmed and enchanted it. He’d then try to get into groups with it, telling people that the spell plate improved the Shadowmourne proc. Apparently it worked a few times.

Back in vanilla, I convinced one of the priests in my 40-man raiding guild that spirit increased rogue energy regen, so she’d always buff us with Prayer of Spirit.

Another priest in that same guild once got into a heated argument over vent after stating that one of the top DPS builds for mages was to take the Wand Specialization talent and stack agility gear and enchants (for extra wand crit rate, she claimed). The “cycle” was to simply auto-attack with the Shoot Wand ability. She accused anyone who disagreed with her of “not thinking outside the box”. To this day I’m not sure if she was trolling us or was just that clueless.

I can dimly recall that there was a short period of time where wand damage was massively overpowered. Wrong damage itemization combined with the wand specialization talent, which added way too much damage because nobody was using it, led to some crazy wand dps.

So if it was during that period, she was right!

This would have been around mid-2006, as we were raiding AQ40 at the time. Does that match your suspected timeframe?

Right before Cata I took my 80 blood elf priest into heroics wearing full Devout and Benediction.

I told anyone who mocked my gear that I hadn’t played since Classic. A lot of people bought that despite the fact I was 80 and a blood elf.

I love to laugh at the noobs like everybody of course…in fact just the other day we had a fantastic LK Normal UK run with people of about 70-72.

My Resto Shammy had about 13k hp and the tank, a warrior, had about 7k. “This isn’t going to go well” I thought to myself.

The first pull his health bar went like this:

----------------------
---------------
------

in about 2 seconds.

Needless to say I was unable to heal him through that.

Somebody said “don’t pull both sides, ok?”

So he pulled only one side and I was barely able to heal him through. Then we struggled through another fight or two, then he died from standing in the fire walls as he insisted that you could get past them.

I inspected him and found he was wearing crap gear that was as low as “Requires level 45”

I indicated to him that he really needed to upgrade his gear.

“That’s why I’m here dude!” he replied.

“You need to buy better gear, buddy” somebody said.

“Dude I only have 32 silver!” he replied. “I can’t even repair my broken gear.”

Finally he attempted to sneak past the dragons and was promptly two-shotted.

We all laughed and then barely got past the dragons somehow. We got to Prince Keleseth and the guy was killed almost instantly. Suddenly he typed

“yeah dude, I have to quit soon. I have to poop and then do some homework.”

“MT”

I laughed so hard I was almost crying. The vote to kick was instantaneous after that.

I suppose it’s possible he was trolling us…guess we’ll never know. Either way it was extremely entertaining.

So yeah I love to laugh at noobs but there’s always a small part of me that knows that I’m really a noob too. Oh well :D

That’s awesome.

Resubbed to try it out. Quick reactions:

 1. They stole all the good mod ideas and put them in the base game!
 2. The goblin starting area quests are like 1000x better than the RTM shit starting areas.
 3. Fuckers won’t let me have a goblin paladin. :(

I’m looking forward to checking out the redone questing. I found that way more fun than repeatedly doing the same damn 5-mans.

Being a shameless achievement whore, I’m going back and completing every quest in Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor (even though I already had Loremaster pre-Cata before they added sub-achievements for each zone). To date, I’ve done every quest in Easter Kingdoms except WPL and EPL, and I can attest that they are really, really good.

Zones that stood out in particular (some of these are Alliance-only):

Cape of Stranglethorn - the final few quests that take place in Booty Bay are an amazing demonstration of what Blizzard can do with phasing. It almost feels like a single-player RPG

Badlands - The quests that make up The Day that Deathwing Came are – BY FAR – the most hilarious thing I’ve seen in WoW. Every player needs to experience this. The final few quests in the zone are also very well done (without giving away any spoilers, I’m talking about the ones that involve a dragon egg).

Redridge Mountains - loved the Rambo homage

Westfall - this was my favourite zone in vanilla, and they’ve only made it better. Nice to see the continuation of the Defias storyline, and the quests here provide background for when you run Deadmines later

On the other hand, I found the following zones to be pretty unmemorable in comparison to the above but still improved over their previous vanilla incarnations:

Burning Steppes
Searing Gorge
Northern Stranglethorn (the raptor hatchling quests were great, everything else was MOTS)
Swamp of Sorrows
Duskwood
Blasted Lands
Arathi Highlands
Hinterlands
Loch Modan
Wetlands

searing gorge had you working with a pacifist ogre quest line which is hilarious(horde only).

Burning steppes also have a quest series which you get to sabotage blackrock orc also awesome(horde only as well).

That series can be completed by Alliance players too. I found it annoying at level 85 because all my attacks (even unarmed melee strikes) one-shot all the mobs I was supposed to weaken but not kill. I’m assuming those quests are probably far less frustrating if one does them at the appropriate level. ;)

Also available to Alliance…I didn’t think it was anything special, but YMMV.

I did both of these as Alliance, though I’m assuming Horde gets somebody other than the Rambo knockoff as a companion in the Steppes chain.

does your quest involving putting on a troll mask and use cludge of discipline and beat orc to death.

Orc mask in my case, but yes.

I found the quest text after you did the cudgel part hilarious.

“Apparently all my lieutenants died in a strange cudgel accident…”

I did them naked with no weapons to not one-shot the mobs at 80.

Do we discourage purely casual players when we are so quick to kick like this? One has to wonder if it were someone like Tom who doesn’t know all the ins-and-outs of maxing out their class.

Gear as low as “requires level 45” is pretty low, he should have been getting better gear from quests at least on his way to 70. Still, I think this is a legitimate concern. I did a run where we had a DK tank and on the first pull we wiped (this was normal even)… though we killed most of the mobs. I didn’t look at his gear, but his health was sub 100k (with buffs).

He then tells us he’s going to switch back to blood from frost (ie, he tanked in frost). Next pull was a captain and he was barely holding aggro, and didn’t move out of the captain’s ground effect. So I suggest we CC and ask him to mark the mobs for us, so instead he marks us… not the mobs. I didn’t really feel like marking or teaching him, so I suggested that he switched his spec back to DPS, and the group can requeue (a rogue abandoned the party after dying in the second pull).

Instead, he requeues the group but selects tank… at which point I say that’s not what I meant and suggest we push on as we filled the empty spot immediately. The tank profusely apologized and quit the group.

I was left wondering, was he just really bad? Was he one of these DPS DKs that queue as a tank for a group and then wait for someone to drop? I hadn’t really encountered anything like that before. Anyway, I was left feeling kind of bad because maybe he just needed someone to teach him to tank.
