Especially given how far they seem to be pushing for casual accessibility, I’m surprised there aren’t video ‘hold-my-hand’ walkthroughs of each class and kind of a ‘here’s what you need to do in a group to fulfill this role with your class’ for a starter guideline.

Three times now I’ve queued for the lower level dungeons as a priest healer had a wipe, and had the tank spirit rez. It’s fairly clear that new players don’t realize that you can just re-enter the dungeon.

Of course he did.
Education wouldn’t fix all problems, but it’d go a long way.
Pretty good list of “good, but not stunningly improved” zones.
Other zones I would put in the “fucking amazing” category are: both plaguelands, Thousand Needles, and Darkshore. The other revamped zones I’ve tried in Kalimdor have all been pretty good, but they were merely “improved” rather than “blew me away”.
Sounds like he was an OK guy, just a terrible player. As long as no one was out-and-out rude to him, that interaction seemed to go how it should have gone. When I stumble on people like that, I’ll usually re-roll on their server afterwards & give them some tips, if they’re interested. And if they’re not… that’s cool. It’s just a game.
I didn’t really make it clear but we tried to work with the guy for over 20 minutes. He died like 5 times. It got to the point where he was getting Rez delays for goodness sake.
It wasn’t like we weren’t willing to be patient, everybody in the group was actually more than patient.
I think it was mostly due to the fact that he just wasn’t listening to anything anybody said. And the poop thing.
Pretty sure that “Equip one of the bits of quest gear you’ve gotten in the last 25 levels” is an acceptable amount of min-max.

ran halls reg with a friend’s guildie who didn’t know about wearing tabards.
Just watched Paragon’s world-first Sinestra kill video (via mmochampion). Four comments.
1 - It looks like an awesome fight. Can’t wait to get a chance to die gruesomely to her!
2 - As always, the voice acting is terrible.
3 - The music Paragon chooses for videos is awesome.
4 - And so is the resolution on the video. I mean, seriously, I can read the text and see the numbers.

Anyone have any advice for raid healing strategy on Magmaw?
We got our asses kicked by him last week. Basically random raiders were dropping dead from some combination of spew and spit. The common feature seems to be that Magmaw is capable of bursting out 70k damage onto someone in the course of about two seconds, with a spew/spit/spew combo. This tells me that the healers have to keep the raid up over 70k for the duration of the fight.
I’m no healer so I have no idea how to even begin doing that; can someone who’s had success at healing this chime in with some tips?
Our guild had some luck using resistance potions on the DPS. That seemed to take a huge chunk of healing off of them and let them focus on the tanks.

Here is a log parse of a Magmaw fight that lasted about five minutes; it was our longest attempt last week.

Also: Can anyone speak to how often he pulses out Lava Spew? When he’s pulsing it it’s 15-18k per raider every two seconds; does he do this throughout the fight? Or is the Spew on a cooldown?
And while I’m at it: Does anyone know how to get the worldoflogs to let me do a log query on more than the first 10 seconds of a fight?
EDIT: nevermind, it looks like removing the “show all events” query does it.
I wish I had a better idea to offer than “healing needs to be better.”
Having everyone stack in melee should make it easier, anyway.
I suspect. Ironically one of my fonder memories from when I last played WoW years back (there were more newbs then) was teaching newbs in Scarlet Monastery. It was a tank newb like above, but at least Scarlet Monastery was where you expect to find newbs. His I idea of “pulling” was very Leeroy Jenkins inspired.
One healer was stellar. So I explained to the healer what I was going to do, then I’d pull on my DPS. Showed the newb tank how to split pulls, mark for CC, and do LoS pulls of ranged mobs with splits. As a old CCer, I trained him to pre-taunt and other niceties. Scarlet Monastery had some nice pulling training rooms. Hadn’t had that much fun pulling since the early days of EQ1 on my Bard tag team pulling with a Monk in the early days of EQ1. If it could be pulled solo we’d find a way.
MMOs feel like elitist numbers games now. It was the first time I’d run a dungeon in months that hadn’t felt like a boring speed run by a lot of people that had to be at the gym in 26 minutes.
This will certainly help people gear up for heroics faster.

Well I answered my own question regarding magmaws spew interval. He pops spew off every 32 seconds it seems. There are three pulses in 2 second intervals that hit the entire raid for up to 18k damage per pulse. There is a 28 second interval between the final pulse of one spew and the first pulse of the next, hence the 32 second timer.
Spit seems to be much more erratic, I looked at logs and saw him spit in intervals between 3 and 11 seconds. Each spit hits three random raiders for about 35k each,

I’m running a tank these days, and my wife is a healer. We both just hit 85, and still have low enough gear that we couldn’t even run heroics.
Last night, we ran tol’vir for the first time. We went through, no joke, 7-8 dps over the course of the run because of random bullshit (“NFL is on!”) or because they can’t handle that they died once or twice.
But in every case, the DPS was lower than my prot warrior. EVERY CASE.
So my honest questions are, is that normal? If not, wtf? What can I do? I absolutely didn’t want to be a jerk, but I want to hint to them to step it up. So twice (once each for totally different dps crews) I posted recount logs to chat to let them know. And each time, one of the DPS guys invents a thousand reasons why it’s my or the healer’s fault. (Hint: no, it wasn’t.)
It’s either a string of bad luck or you or your wife were doing something wrong. Going through 7 or 8 dps players in one run seems excessive to me, but with the horrible PuGs I’ve been in lately, it’s not too far-fetched. But recount logs don’t really tell the whole story and prot warriors are certainly heavy on the damage output right now.
I guess you should look at exactly why all these people were dying. Not saying it was your fault, but you say they couldn’t handle dying as if it’s something that’s supposed to occur frequently. I’m not trying to be a jerk, I just have no idea how familiar you are with the game, so I’m trying to rule out the possibility of you or your wife just not knowing if you’re doing something wrong.
