Yeah, that was funny 4-5 years ago but after much of BC and its tough dungeons (until nerfs/everyone learned them) it loses its charm. Same with LK. I have less time and interest in bashing my head against the keyboard because “dopeman” the rogue can’t sap or attack the tank’s target. There are other things to in game or life than spend over an hour in a heroic that will mean jack squat in 6 months, other than a place to farm points for new gear.
Around gear level 340-345.
Shit.
BRB, rerolling mage.
Some months later …
Finally upgraded my account to Cataclysm :( … now to see if my guild is still alive.
Pretty sure it’s the (totally overpowered for PvP) healing aura from the squad of guys you get in the TH quest later on in the zone. If so, that’s more or less an exploit (far less if the guys in your squad are targetable by opposing faction; then all of the folks the mage took out were just stupid.)
Yes, and yes, they are targetable.

Well if you could just kick “dopeman” when you wanted and he couldn’t get a fucking 45 minute immunity it wouldn’t be so bad.
As far as “there are other things”… I guess? I mean if you’re playing the game and don’t like, playing… why are you giving them money? I mean your other options are to probably do archeology or sit and read trade chat. I’d rather do a run with a bunch of failures than either of those things for more than 5 minutes. You seem to be asking that we take the fun out of the game cause some people are stupid. I’d rather not have the entire game be a faceroll. Thats much less fun than an actual challenge in my book.
So yesterday I’m pugging Stonecore Heroic with my DK tank. I love Stonecore, great challenge for a tank, and I need two drops from there.
The group struggles, but we kill Corborus, then start with the giants. Of course, most of the group didn’t realize you could jump over the quake. The healer complains about taking so much damage, so the hunter tells him to jump.
A pull or two later and the hunter goes afk. I didn’t notice this at the time, so I pull another giant. Hunter comes back from afk, dead. Hunter asks why he’s dead. The healer responds, “you didn’t jump.” I LOL’d.
Took us three tries on Ozruk thanks to the dps being stupid, and we one-shotted Azil.
Yesterday my wife started two instances on her moonkin. In one, the tank pulled the first group of trash and then dropped group in the middle of the fight. In the other, the tank zoned in, then immediately zoned out, but wouldn’t leave the group. Even though I know that there are people who will take any opportunity to abuse others so long as it doesn’t get them arrested, but it still amazes me.
Perhaps you should try some PvP, particularly the level 70 bracket.
He already tried YOUR MOM.
PUGs are getting buffed.
In case you aren’t already aware, Luck of the Draw is the name of the buff you get for grouping with random people using Dungeon Finder. It currently provides a 5% buff to damage, healing, and health if you have at least one random player in your group. With patch 4.0.6, we are increasing this buff to 5% damage, healing, and health per random player, up to a maximum of 15%.
In the process of working on this change we actually discovered that the Luck of the Draw buff has not been working in Cataclysm at all, save for a few specific dungeons. This means that the difficulty in almost all normal and Heroic dungeons for those using the Dungeon Finder tool was higher than expected. Still, with that issue corrected in 4.0.6, we feel the bump up to 15% for three or more random players found through the Dungeon Finder is a necessary change.
The intent of Luck of the Draw is to help make up for the lack of coordination, communication, and familiarity that pick up groups suffer relative to organized groups of guild members and friends. Cataclysm dungeons, especially on Heroic mode, are quite challenging and ask for more group organization than the Wrath of the Lich King dungeons did. Therefore, Luck of the Draw became relatively weaker in Cataclysm. I’m painting the picture with unfairly large brush strokes here, but in general, Heroic dungeons are of appropriate difficulty for organized groups, but just brutal on Dungeon Finder groups. Players wonder, and rightly so, why Dungeon Finder supports Cataclysm Heroic dungeons at all when the chance of success is so low.
…
I guess it’s a good thing I’ve only had time to run one five man since the expansion came out.

The quake is actually an amazingly poor mechanic. It’s so ridiculously lag-dependent, I’ve found that if I jump at 60-70% of his cast bar, and even if I land at 90%, I don’t get hit. However, if I jump at 80-90% and am clearly in the air when Quake goes off, I take damage anyway. This is a common complaint among almost everyone I’ve done the fight with.
That is an AWFUL mechanic for any fight, whether it’s trash, a heroic boss or a raid. For most timed events, such as an interrupt, you have an obvious visual window to accomplish it in. If I let an cast bar get to 80% and I miss it due to a little lag, I feel like I still have myself to blame. But the window for avoiding Quake is so small that it’s disconnected with the visual cue, which should have never gotten through beta.

Yeah, when I see him starting to raise his foot, I just start jumping like a jackrabbit on a date, and usually don’t get hit. That’s probably not what Blizzard wants me to do, though.

Priests can also cheeze out of the mechanic by levitating themselves and others.

So after my daily heroic today I’ll have 1680 VP saved up and am considering my first purchase.
Given the way I’m currently geared (as a holy paladin), what do you think would be the best bang for my buck? Any other healadins have thoughts?
Also - are you guys buying the Tier 11 armor sets first, or holding off till later?
I like that. Will make me try the dungeon finder at least once or twice now…
I’d pick up the relic and start raiding! Your gear is definitely good enough to pull your share of the load in raids. ;)
Other than that, I don’t know. I picked up the relic first because, as someone in a raiding guild, the other slots have upgrades from raids and the relic doesn’t.
On a slight tangent, you should probably regem everything into Intellect (according to the hpallies in my Guild); blue slots should have Int/Spirit and yellow slots Int/Crit.

Huh. For some reason I thought there were no int gems in blue and yellow. Otherwise I definitely would have done that. Thanks! Time to troll the AH.
I’m basically torn between the relic and the trinket. The relic probably won’t be replaced, but that 312 int boost on the trinket is hard to ignore.
As for raiding, I’ve been in one so far (my first ever!), which was Bastion of Twilight. I am currently the top healer in my guild, which feels good, but we still couldn’t get past the first boss in 3 hours of trying (largely due to a bad combination of drakes that week). Maybe we’ll have better luck tonight (we raid on fridays).

Did H Grim Batol for the first time last night, and it was just as brutal as I’d feared (even normal posed a survival challenge for me, though much less of one). Quite a few wipes, as I kept dying near-instantaneously, particularly when…warlords? Whatever, some assholes summoned a million billion little floating dot adds. Those hurt. A lot. As the healer put it, I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m fine, I’m dead. The bosses weren’t a problem in terms of survival, though. At least once we stopped doing stupid stuff.
Really don’t know what I could have done differently. Be a bit more aggressive about protecting my back, but mostly I think it’s a gear thing; 114k base health is not enough. I did reforge literally every item I have to dodge afterwards, which basically dropped my mastery by half a point, my crit by a few percent, and boosted my doge from 24 to 30. Hopefully that will help.
Unfortunately, if it is a gear thing by far the fastest way to fix it, AFAICT, is to take my lumps in heroics until enough stuff drops that I don’t drop quite so fast. Er. I guess some basic enchants would help too. Possibly different gems. This is me.

I can’t remember if they’re CCable but the summon is a channeled spell that ought to be getting interrupted.
