There’s a history for this, though. In Burning Crusade, there were a couple herbs, like Mana Thistle, that only grew in areas only accessible by flight. So, first herbalists to 70 & who could afford a mount made a fortune.

Obviously you haven’t been reading the WoW forums in the past 6 years or you would realize that Blizzard really is rather clueless about balance and impacts of their changes before rolling them out.
Speaking from a warrior perspective I can tell far in advance when they do a nerf exactly what the impact will be and 99% of the time their notion of the impact is pretty off base. A prime example is any change to damage that they decide to do also has a direct correlation to rage and rage generation thus compounding the dmg reduction, threat generation etc etc. This is something that they haven’t clued in to at all over the years and it’s been a known impact since the first rage and/or dmg changes happened in 2005.
I’ve seen these kinds of oversights over the years for other classes as well and quite frankly Ghostcrawler, who is the face put to the changes the majority of the time since he is the one who leads that team, shows time and again from his comments that he is completely obtuse to the workings of the game when it comes to actual game play.
What another posted stated above with the PvP/PvE issue is the definite need for two rule sets at the very least, something that, quite honestly, wouldn’t be hard for the to implement based on target type. This would, in the end, give them far more flexibility
For those complaining about Druid healing – why? The Wild Growth change especially made a big difference.
Here’s a link, for example, to last night’s hardmode Halfus kill, with the second and third place on the healing + absorb meters being held by two Resto Druids (I’m Yargghh).
The first place, of course, was the Disc Priest. Discipline is so broken on that fight…
As somebody who has suffered through only 15 years of people having no idea “how hard” it is to implement something in software, I can tell you that “quite honestly” you have no idea what you’re talking about. I’m not saying it’s definitely hard, I’m just saying you don’t know.

Except they have already demonstrated that they have different rulesets implemented in the game in regards to things such as polymorph, snares, roots, etc being on a DR for PvP flagged people/mobs (think ToGC and the PvP event for mob specific DRs). So it’s already been proven that this can, and is, being done.
already been done != easy
Going to the moon? Already been done.
Easy? Nah.

It’s a lot easier to dink around with PvP changes to specific spells. It’s a lot harder to re-do the entire class design around having separate PvE and PvP rules for every class. I don’t believe we’ll ever see that until the next Wow if then.

Where have I ever said it was easy? I didn’t, I simply stated it wouldn’t be hard for them to do. But please put words in my mouth. Just because something isn’t hard doesn’t mean it’s easy. Just because something offers a challenge doesn’t mean it’s hard.
Please, point out anywhere where I used the word easy.
Having a code base and/or implemented practices in place gives you a base point to work for in figuring out how to implement the changes.
If you want to argue semantics over what ‘not hard’ is then be my guest, but stating I said easy when I didn’t is ridiculous.

Honestly Survival was always the utility tree of Hunters. That it was the best DPS by miles on top of that did need some fixing. Marksman should always be top DPS (single target anyway) imo, you give up quite a bit to spec it. BM and Survival should be close behind with their added flexibility and utility.
Of course they seem to have gone too far, but thats par for the course with Blizzard. You over nerf something, then you tweak it up the next patch. Not a great plan imo, but whatever, its how they roll apparently.

The SV hunter in my guild consistently does top DPS in almost every group he’s in. Last night on Heroic Rahj he did 20k, and he pretty much beats all the mages we group with.
So … maybe he’s doing something different? Or is it less relative to what it was, but still pretty darn good? He’s ilvl346.
That thinking sounds pretty outdated to me. Specs no longer should no longer be designed to give up utility for DPS, at least in PvE. Also, MM’s ranged interrupt easily rivals the other specs’ bonuses in my eyes.
You currently give up an enormous amount of mobility to play MM properly, but I’ll bet my epics that’s not intended.
OK you got me. I’ve pinned you down to one of the many gradiations of difficulty that are below “hard” without any evidence.
I suppose what I’ve done really is ridiculous too. I forgot the following difficulty levels:
Slightly harder than medium
Medium
Easier than medium but harder than easy
Easy
Really Easy
Trivial
Can you maybe pinpoint where you think your feature enhancement would fall on this scale?
Just kidding. ;)
I dunno man, it’s just that your original post was so “Official Forum.” That place is filled with people assuming they know how difficult things are.
Then again, just a few posts ago I also raged that I knew that fixing cooking to be the way I would have preferred would have been easy so I’m just as guilty as you!
:D
It’s been awhile since we’ve had the “Everyone knows better than Blizzard” discussion here. Good times! I particularly like how the people playing dps classes that are consistently at the top of the charts complain the loudest when they get nerfed. Like the guy several posts ago who isn’t even playing right now saying he’s not even going to resub because of the recent nerfs to Unholy DKs. It’s like our own little piece of the official WoW boards!
I’m just not quite sure what’s so terrible about losing a couple percent of damage. Is it an ego thing? Is your worth as a player based on what Recount says at the end of the night? I focus on dps players simply because they tend to be the ones who yell the loudest when things change. Tanks and healers I think deserve to complain a bit if their effectiveness takes a hit, but damage output will likely always be sufficient. Unless maybe for some weird reason you’ve got a raid full of subtlety rogues or something. Other than that, as long as your dps players are pretty evenly matched overall, who gives a fuck who places last as long as the boss goes down? Now, if you’re failing to down bosses because your damage was nerfed so terribly you can’t even compete, then yeah, complain away. Losing a few spots on the charts is a very silly thing to worry about, though.

The way that Blizzard’s managing the boards right now makes people look for other outlets. A lot of people here play WoW too, so what’s the problem with discussing it here?
As far as DPS complaining about numerical nerfs, you’ve got a point, up until the nerfs are so drastic that groups simply stop bringing you along because of them. You have to remember that healer mana isn’t infinite, and that there’s a lot of mechanics out there that make DPS performance essential. Sometimes getting to play the game at all is dependent on your ranking on those charts.

One of my favorite examples of the blizz devs’ odd mindset was a blue post by lamenting at the end of BC that they really hadn’t meant for druid healers to become “hot bots”. This when many in the BC beta had predicted that is what would happen. It only took blizzard that whole expansion to give druids an out of combat rez too.
Another would be Ghostcrawler before Cata during the aoe dps/threat debates on the tank forums whinging about prot warriors just using thunder clap to maintain aoe threat and they hadn’t meant for that to happen. Uh, well it kind of had to given the design of the LK expansion for warriors to hold aoe threat against dps and the reason why many just used it later on to hold threat was they out geared the heroics immensely. Why bother with anything but tclap and cleve on yet another violet hold run?

If that is really what happens, isn’t it time to change guilds? To each his own, but as long as the boss goes down I’d just as soon play with friends than with the top dpsers on the server.

is the important bit, I guess.
Are you having fun is the important part.

Yeah, there’s a lot of pressure on DPS because of those charts. People look at the charts to judge you because DPS is “easy” and anyone near the bottom isn’t worth bringing. Heck this even happens in pre-raid runs. I was doing BRD and one of the members (healer) asked us to kick a mage only doing 300 dps (same as another class in our group) because the tank and a paladin were doing ~500 dps.
We weren’t wiping, we were mowing through packs of mobs and people were still complaining.

This attitude is what killed the Arathor Horde Qt3 guild. One guy wanted to ‘just have fun’. His idea of fun was pulling trash before the tank was ready, not wanting to dps the boss in the way that others did, getting drunk and playing the game, etc etc.
Multiple wipes are not fun.
