I hadn’t thought about it too much, because I’ve spent 13 hours fishing while reading boring technical books, but I agree the even faster 1-60 leveling has really made a lot of mismatches in the professions and zone design. I suspect Blizzard doesn’t really care though; they just want to get everyone into the insane/raid endgame with their friends.

Which is a shame, because the new zone quests are just fantastic. The one in Thousand Needles where the ghost of the pirate king you just killed follows you around bitching that you do the rest of the questline to raise him from the dead, for example.

Yeah, a number of people have commented on those zones here. I’d definitely make them my main priority on the warrior. I had just about completed Thousand Needles the last time I was on.

I think part of it is just wanting to keep the time to reach level cap constant no matter what level the cap is and while they smoothed the XP curve to achieve this, they didn’t necessarily smooth out everything else along the way, so you get the whole outpacing professions thing.

The pirate king questline was indeed pretty entertaining.

Now that I’m 85 and have been doing Heroics all the time, I’m basically Justice Point Capped, so I’ve been buying up all the various Heirlooms for my alts.

I ran through the Worgen starting experience wearing them and that is also a great way to outlevel your professions ;). I’m sure that’s been the case for a while though.

I didn’t dislike the Worgen starting experience as much as others, and I think my Worgen Druid will definitely be one of my favourite toons one day. My only real problem with it, which was the same for Hyjal and Vash’ir for me, was that I never really had a good sense of where I was. Because you are teleported around and not forced to find your own way too much, or maybe it’s the use of all the mini-hubs, I never really felt like I got to know a zone the way I did in saw, Elwynn or Dun Morogh.

But I loved the look of the place. The music, the architecture, just overall colour of the zone had a wonderful gothic feel. I wish there were an excuse to go there more.

I only went through the Worgen starting zone recently - what don’t folks like about it? I thought it was fine, if super heavily phased.

Dumping you off in Darnassus is shitty though.

Yeah I saw the patch notes, it’s just that I didn’t see that turning out into this. Every time I’m in a BG I see retri palas plowing through enemy ranks.

Oh well, maybe a respec for my own pala is needed.

I also made a goblin and the starting zone for that race pretty much takes the MMO-as-amusement park approach to world design and runs with it literally. The first five levels you spend more time racing around in vehicles and doing silly things than you do playing as your actual class. On the one hand, the noise, action and sheer over-the-top design is exhilarating. On the other, it doesn’t feel much like an MMO at all. Is that good or bad? I still can’t decide.

Those same levels pre-expansion on any other char are mind-bogglingly dull and a terrible introduction to the game, though. You just don’t get enough to do at that low a level.

Is it actually constant, though? It’s unbelievably fast compared to RTM, for example, even with the 70-85 tacked on. 1-60 is a joke.

Another bit I don’t think anyone has mentioned: whoever is running their editorial style is great.

GTL, friend. Gambling, tinkering, laundry.

I’m not sure if it’s constant or even if that was Blizzard’s goal, it’s just my best guess on what I’ve experienced. It could be that it’s faster now to go from 1-85 than it was to go from 1-80 (or maybe even 1-70?) Anyone else have any idea on how fast the overall pace of leveling is now vs, what it was pre-Cataclysm? I’m sure someone somewhere has tracked all the XP needed in exacting detail. :)

So here’s a random question: does anyone know how to disable the mouseover functionality for unit frames.

I have a G500 mouse with all three of the side mouse buttons bound to spells. My issue is that whenever I’m moused over the unit frames, these buttons cease to work. What this leads to is a huge annoyance. Say I want to dispell someone in the raid, I have to click their frame, mouse my cursor off the frame, then click my button. It would be fantastic if I didn’t have to do this.

You’ll have to setup a mouseover macro to your buttons. I think this works?

#showtooltip
/cast [target=mouseover, help] dispel; [help] dispel; dispel

Casts dispel on your mouseover target, or your selected target if you have one, or yourself if you have no target

Any DK tanks out there with any advice? My raid group has a DK tank thats been taking a beating during Omnotron fight (and others). Big damage spikes seem to kill him, healers can’t keep him up more than once (without going oom). We seem to have far less problems with a pally or druid tank in that fight.

Yes, but with limited raid experience in Cataclysm so far. Have an armory link? Just from hearing that it sounds like his stamina/avoidance/mastery mixture might be off but it’s hard to know.

Honestly, I have, and I’m fully familiar with mage rotations. Trelane summed it up perfectly.

Also, I wasn’t yelling at you. I was just confused. Still am, to be honest.

Ranulf: Get some worldoflogs parses.

Omnotron is all about avoidable damage. If your tank is dying there are basically 3 possibilities:

  1. He’s taking avoidable damage (e.g. standing in fire; Arcanotron’s annihilator isn’t getting interrupted, etc).
  2. Someone else is taking avoidable damage and the healers are getting spread too thin.
  3. Your healers are not up to the task.
  1. Your tank is geared/spec’d incorrectly/poorly

is always a possibility as well, especially if they have no issues with other tanks on the same fight.

There was a time when, if you broke one of the quests, you were basically screwed. And because of the phasing, you couldn’t go anywhere else.

I’m looking for specific functionality in an addon, I’ve looked lots of places but haven’t been successful, so I’m asking here. I want an addon that places some type of visible indicator on in-game friends or guildmembers in a battleground. I PvP with a few friends as their dedicated healer and in large BG fights (particularly AV and IoC) it can get a little hectic keeping track of who is actually where.

I’ve been mainly scouring name plate addons since I’ve assumed it woud be simple to add on an option of “If on friend’s list then bar color = X” and that would precisely do the trick for me. I can’t imagine I’m alone in asking for something like this, but perhaps I am given my lack of success thus far. Perhaps I’m barking up the wrong tree by concentrating on name plate addons.

He’s not the most experienced tank but I tend to rule out gear. I’ll research it more on DKs. I’ve not played mine lately. I think its strategy and he’s not using cooldowns/rotation correctly to keep his shield up. Usually he’s dying from straight up physical damage, mega hits 2-3 in a row.

Ranulf, I had a friend actually talking to me last night about how his DK tank is very spikey for dmg now and was wondering if I might know what changes came down the pipe for them that might have affected things. I can’t stand playing a DK so I never looked it up, but you’re not the only one who’s seeing these kinds of issues.

Was healing Halls of Origination for the very first time, and the tank rushed right ahead before I could really respec, get my correct gear set on, and set up all my spells and buffs. The first two fights everybody took a ton of damage and I ran out of mana very quickly both times and everybody ended the fights in the red.

I started to say that I was probably a bit undergeared for the place, that it was my first time, and to ask for some mobs to be CCd and to give me a little time to mana up before the fights when I suddenly got a loading screen.

I literally didn’t realize what had happened for a moment. First time I’ve been kicked from a group since I started healing 70 levels ago :)

I think I’m at least an average healer. I’ve gotten some compliments and it’s been pretty rare for a group to experience wipes.

I really manage to enjoy the DF despite some of the hassles and idiots, but being kicked for nothing worse than a rocky start that wasn’t completely my fault was a little aggravating.

So I requeued for the place a second time, went through with a less steroidal group without too much trouble given that I didn’t know any of the fights.
