There’s always a dead spot shortly after an expansion launches. There’s the initial rush where everyone floods the new quest zones to reach the level cap, run dungeons to gear up, and then the rush wears off as things get grindy. People inevitably lose interest and drop out – it happens all the time.
That’s why I think it’s a good idea for Blizzard to push out 4.1 sooner than later, even without a new raid. Any new content will generate a little excitement and keep a few people around. If it were at all feasable, I’d release small snippets of stuff to do every 2-3 weeks, even if they’re just extra quest hubs, dailies or whatever, just to keep things from getting stale.

That was true with Magisters Terrace, even moreso with ICC, but ZG and ZA? I tested it out on the PTR and dropped group within a few minutes because I couldn’t bring myself to do that same old content again, even spruced up.
ZG is from Vanilla, and ZA is from BC. They’ll both be new to a lot of people.
First, let me say I intended to send a PM but I need 20 posts before I can do that… I suppose that’s smart to protect from spam! Anyway, the forums rules say p1mping developer tools is ok as long as it’s interactive… well we’re in luck, Mr. Robot LOVES interacting. So I hope this isn’t too intrusive ;)
Anyway, I came across Daagar’s post about Mr. Robot and wanted to reach out since you guys seem to have a very good feel for the various tools out there.
One thing I wanted clarification on: Daagnar, you said if you aren’t progression raiding, Mr. Robot is good for you. But we intend it to be a great tool for progression raiding, so I’d like to hear you (everyone here) elaborate on that so we can make any necessary improvements.
Second, we really do listen to users, releasing updates every day or two, often to incorporate user feedback. So stop on by our forums with any suggestions - start your own thread, or just add something to the existing wish list: forums.askmrrobot.com/index.php?topic=1043.0
In fact, a discussion from users about how we could improve bear tanking stats lead to Mr. Robot making a support tool a week later: Robomaul askmrrobot.com/wow/tools/robomaul
Thanks for using Mr. Robot’s optimizer! He’s done about 2 million optimizations, helping fleshies gear better, 1 at a time. And later this month, he’ll be helping meatbags on the go with his mobile app release!
Hi Robot!
I wanted to say “thanks” for being so quick on accepting feedback / changes from the one time I posted in your forum; I was pointing out that there are no Heroic level world-BoEs of the ones that drop from the instances, and wham, you changed it a few days later.
So thumbs up!

I wanted to chime in and say I think Mr Robot is awesome even if you aren’t progression raiding. It’s like Rawr lite, and if nothing else, is excellent on reforging recommendations, which are helpful for everyone.
Oh hey, it looks like the Balance set might be a bit wonky.
My previous research had suggested that 4piece balance + the chestpiece off of Magmaw was better than 4piece with the resto helm. I need to go look at that again… if I remember right, you trade a crit/mastery piece for a haste piece, which should be an upgrade.
Hey team robot,
The reforges you suggest for optimal, is there any way to see the net outcome? Otherwise they look a bit random.
I noticed the rep rewards from stuff in Burning Crusades, like the Aldor/Scryer factions, just absolutely pales in comparison to the usual blue dungeon drops from the random dungeons. Is there any point running these reps anymore?
I definitely used Mr. Robot to help me find the best pre-raid gear. The only thing I had trouble with was getting it to properly take socket colour into account when advising on a piece of gear for a certain slot. Maybe there is a way to do that, but I wasn’t able to figure out how.
If you’re asking if it’s worthwhile to run the BC reps, not really. Honor Hold/Thrallmar has a pretty good weapon at Honored rep which is easily obtained from questing, but that’s about it. Pretty much all rep grinds are designed to be done during the endgame for that expansion as a way to prep for raiding. So both BC and WotLK reps are kinda useless now.
Edit - or for Achievement Whoring, like MarchHare said.

Er… purely bad phrasing on my part. My intent was to really say that you can use the base stat weight values just as-is (in game, via Pawn even) when you’re pre-raid (and/or leveling and pre-heroic). And then as you start doing raid content, switch to relying more on the site itself because of all the mathematical athletics going on behind the scenes (diminishing returns, caps, etc) that won’t be reflected any longer in the “simplistic” Pawn strings. I just wanted to encourage MrRobot for use even if you aren’t progression raiding as having a solid site with all class/spec stat value weighting all in one place is HUGE.
Sorry for being misleading!
Daagnar: gotcha, that makes sense. Well keep any feedback coming :)
Sinnick: regarding socket bonuses - Mr. Robot calculates the socket bonus’s value based on stat weights. Here’s an easy example: If Int is 100, haste is 90 and mastery is 80 then… a yellow socket bonus of +10 mastery would look like this. 40 int on a red gem x 100 stat weight = 4000. 20 int and 20 haste and 10 mastery are (20x100) + (20x90) +(10x80) = 2000 + 1800 + 800 = 4,600. So getting the socket bonus is better. But, if the weight of haste was 74 and mastery 50, it would be 2000 + 1480 + 500 = 3,980, so getting 40 int would be better. Did that make sense? If you follow that math and it STILL doesn’t give you the right socket bonuses, that means there is a bug, and let us know if you see it!
Aaron - I believe we’re working a bit more on the set pieces to get the recommendations just right :)
Edit: Forgot to respond to Dreamshadow - did you see the ‘more stats’ button a bit above the ‘optimize’ button. Does that give you what you’re looking for?
Hm, you might be right on the set pieces, come to think of it. I need to go check out the latest spreadsheets, because it’s close… it all depends on the relative weights of Spirit, Haste, Crit, and Mastery.

That really sucks.
I don’t think it can be “luck” - I’ve done too many random dungeons for that. Maybe it’s a euro/US or horde/alliance thing. Could even be time of day I suppose…

Its any number of factors. I needed my daily valor points Sunday and I figured I’d try out a full pug group as a healer (don’t like druid tanking these days due to aoe problems). I get deadmines… group looks ok if light on CC. DK tank on the 2nd pull grabs about 5 mobs+ and wipes the group. I hit shadowmeld, got lucky on living and just quit the group after that.
I’ve also gotten lucky in random groups when tanking on my paladin. I got a guild group the other day that while not perfect we completed the instance without much problem (2 wipes) in fairly short order.
At this point, I was too hopefull. 6 months at best before heroics are tolerable in LFG.
PS, Ozruk or whatever in Stonecore is such a pain in the ass. If you’re not at the right angle on ground slam or 5 yards out of that circle… poof. Oh, and conclave of the wind is kinda a fun fight, that drops crappy loot. The wind dude looks fun but again… lame loot drops.

Ozruk is better than the Steelshaper in BRC though.
Unless he bugs out, hes pretty easily to tank, whereas Steelshaper just bugs out constantly making him a huge pain in the ass.
The only real downside to Ozruk is that most LFD people can’t read or understand concepts for some reason. Theres no excuse for a Shaman healer to constantly eat Paralyzes, yet I’ve seen it happen countless times. At least Hunters and the like have an excuse.
Thanks. I’m not into that, so I guess I should get rid of all the pre-80 rep grind crap I’m hauling around.
