Soloing older content immediately comes to mind. Kharazan is pretty fun to solo.
Twinblade of the Hakkari is 1.4; is that any better? :P
a 1.8 speed agility dagger – no good for rogue off hand, not great for rogue main hand
Huh? I haven’t played WoW since March, so I’m not up on the latest theorycrafting from ElitistJerks, but doesn’t the optimal setup for a Mutilate or Backstab rogue use a slow (1.8 speed) main hand and fast (1.3 or 1.4 speed) off hand?

Getting back to five mans…:)
The Real ID cross server stuff is in beta. This means that you can group for five mans with your Read ID friends across servers. I realize most of you guys are alliance but it would be kind of cool to do some five mans with other Qt3’ers I think. I haven’t tried it yet because I only have one Real ID friend who plays Horde.
Link.
Lorini, hit me up with a RealID friend request. It’s my name @ gmail. I’m always looking to have better company for when I grind out my Valor points, whether on my tankadin or Druid. :)

Done. I’m jennifer.schlickbernd at gmail .
Heh, maybe with someone to do Heroics with I’ll actually cap out my Paladin’s Valor points this week.
… maybe.
Anyway, I sent a RealID friend request to you, too. Odd that ours haven’t crossed paths and confirmed each other, though…

Just about all rogues use a fast offhand to apply deadly poison asap, there’s a dedicated off-hand 1.4 speed dagger available with JP.
But I would not consider 1.8 to be a slow main hand when there are other mains in the 2.6 range, like the Tol Barad axe.
(Disclosure: I play a combat rogue exclusively, so I don’t do a double-dagger setup)
That’s what I was getting at – if you were specced for Assassination or Subtlety where your primary attack is Mutilate or Backstab, respectively, you’d want that 1.8 speed agility dagger for your main hand. Obviously it’s worthless to a Combat rogue.

Confirmed. I was out of the house for awhile.
That’s why he asked about mutilate and backstab rogues. As far as I’m aware, both assassination and subtlety rogues still use a 1.8 mainhand.

It’s gotten to the point where they may as well allow you to do cross-faction groups for RealID friends as well.

As someone mentioned earlier, best-in-slot loot functions to serve as an “end game” goal (though of course, that is only temporary until the next content patch). So yes, it is the ultimate reward for many.
What it comes down to though is mind-set. Games have always centered around getting the ‘best’ of whatever it is there is to get the best of. And for some reason in WoW, gear is that thing (rather than achievements/pets/mounts/whatever). It is the topic of discussion, first and foremost in any forum/blog/whatever.
I struggled with that myself. For a long long time I played hybrids exclusively because I didn’t want to get left behind without having a tank or healer toon. Yet I (no longer, anyway) typically join “progression” raids, and even when I do raid I usually am DPS spec’d because I don’t raid consistently enough to learn to do it ‘right’ in a critical role. After much alt-creating and general waffling, I’ve finally learned to enjoy my hunter toon. He only does DPS. He does good DPS. He excels in doing solo stuff (dailies, old content, whatever). He has come to grips with not having raid gear. And that’s okay. He gets pets, and is trying to catch up in achievement points with past toons. And when there is an open DPS slot, he can function just like any other dps-slot-filler.
But getting over the “must have loot” mind-set is hard.
Only one person has to have the premium service to do RealID cross-server grouping, correct?
Has there been any information about how much it is?

You don’t need any premium service to do Real ID, it comes with the sub.
The question was about the cross-server thing, though, which they’ve said will be a “premium” service. There was a blue post recently about it that was weirdly vague when asked how much it would cost, as if to say it might not cost anything, but it might, but then it might not, so who really knows?
Edit: here’s the quote:
"I said this as a response on the blog and I’ll post it here as well:
We greatly appreciate constructive feedback about this, but as we mention in the FAQ above we’ll have information about a cost for premium services at a future point in time. For now, all anyone is able to do is “guess” at what this could mean. Let’s focus on testing for now and avoid supposition about any sort of cost at this point in time. It’s too easy for people to get involved in hearsay that is inaccurate or misleading.
We know people have concerns over this and get a bit itchy about the word “premium”, but for now the answer we can give is the one in the FAQ. Your constructive feedback though is helpful in the testing of the feature and will help us make sure it’s serving the community in the best possible way. What we want to avoid is people getting ahead of themselves and guessing at prices or spreading misinformation or rumor. We want this to be successful. We want the community to find value in it being available to them.
This is just one of several ways in which people can get together with their friends whether that includes them relocating realms and factions or not. It’s simply an additional choice that will hopefully make your time in the game more enjoyable for you and your friends. It’s not any more sinister than that."
oh, I’m asking about the cross-server 5 man thing. I already use Real ID.
Edit: The above post answers it. So basically no one knows right now?

I didn’t see the reference to premium in the FAQ. If it’s preium, I’m out, I don’t play enough to pay for it.
There was talk about it being a premium service for an add’l $3/mo (yay Bobby!), but I don’t know what they ended up going with. Since Bobby is involved, I’d be surprised if it isn’t premium.
And its also been said that it’ll only require one party member to have the service, which is already a weird thing. Seems also odd how secretive they’re being about the whole deal. I wouldn’t personally pay for it since all my WoW friends are on the same server, but a few in my guild have expressed great interest in the service, even if it costs extra.
