Yeah, the old raiding has picked up quite a bit. I like collecting the old tier gear, but running those outdated raids is still quite a lot of fun to me.

I started a private guild for my bank alts (both Horde and Alliance) a long time back so I could move things more easily between accounts. I also learned to use bank alts when you’re pushing the market hard, otherwise you get a lot of whiny whispers and emails to your main.

I had about 100k when I quit, but that’s mostly due to lack of motivation. I knew all the methods for making gold in various professions, and at the end of Wrath had alts with every profession maxed, lots of rare recipes, and enough capital to flip any BOEs. I easily could have focused on that & made several hundred thousand more, but once I had all the shinies and financial security, I’d rather level an alt with that time.

I was going to post links to my bank alts, but it has been long enough that they no longer show up on the Armory.

My wife and I had a guild for several of our alts with a fully purchased guild bank. It was mostly crafting materials, consumables, and recipes. We had to keep shuffling things and auctioning some because it stayed full.

I’m surprised that Blizzard never decided to offer paid additional storage. Clearly plenty of people that would pay for it.

I think I’m actually looking forward to 4.3!

New stuff for Darkmoon faire.. Maybe we’ll finally be able to create tailoring stuff that people will buy (other than bags).

That is a great idea. I remember being completely underwhelmed by the DF when I first started the game.

Some more details on the new raid finder as seen here:

Brack: The next big thing that we’ll be doing is the random raid finder. The idea behind this is that it is very similar to the dungeon finder we have now except that it is for raids. There are special rules associated with how that is going to work, the first one is that the raid finder is going to be for 25 person only, it’s not a way for you to have 10 person raids, it’s only for 25 person. It is cross server we will do some auto match making very similar to how it is looking for dungeon. Another piece is that there is going to be another difficulty level and this raid difficulty - the random raid finder difficulty level - we haven’t figured out exactly what it’s going to be called but there will be a difficulty level easier than normal mode. You’ll end up having this raid finder mode then you’ll have your normal mode and your heroic mode. The normal and heroic modes are exactly what they are today.

Tito: It’s a way to introduce players that aren’t able to raid now to be able to do so.

Brack: That’s exactly right. So the idea behind that is that it’s a little bit easier. There will be restrictions as well for players, you won’t be able to get your achievements done, you won’t be able to get your titles or your mounts or your awards in that way as if you complete them on normal/heroic. We’ll have special achievement s that are specifically for looking for raids tier of difficulty.

Tito: Will the item level of items and loot be cut down as well?

Brack: Absolutely.

Tito: If you were doing heroic level 5 mans are these raid finder raids more difficult or easier than heroic dungeons?

Brack: Do you mean in terms of the loot you get? Or do you mean in the terms of the difficulty of players?

Tito: There now seems to be the progression where you start with normal dungeons then you go to heroic dungeons then you do 10 mans then you go to 25 man.

Brack: That’s one way you can do it. We haven’t finalized the where the itemization in terms of the actual levels in terms of where they’re going to work towards in terms of the new dungeons or where the, uh, looking for the raid finder item tier or the normal raid tier and the heroic raid tier but there will be a completely separate raid tier. We’ll have a raid tier that is for random raid finder, we’ll have a raid tier for normal and another raid tier for heroic.

Tito: What else about the raid finder is going on?

Brack: We really want it to be a way for players to get into and experience the highest level of raid content. Right now we have some PUGs (Pick Up Groups) that are able to work where it’s a very manual process for players to do it. They’re probably not able to do the highest level of content but there’s something that they want to do. What if we, instead of having players kind of struggle to get this group together so that they can experience a content level behind, what if we just create a system that allows players to auto match make and automatically facilitates them getting into the most recent content at a different difficulty level.

Tito: I’ve never been able to raid myself as I’ve never had the time to wrangle players. This might be a way to make that much easier

Brack: Very similar to the way the dungeon finder works where you can log in and say “I’ve got an hour and I want to run a dungeon.” Click on dungeon finder and let the right thing happen. We’re trying to make this at some same level of frictionless entry where you can go on and experience Deathwing content and immediately get on and enjoy that content.

It sounds like I may actually get a shot at seeing some raid content when this comes out.

Um, so. Blizzard are nerfing the shit out of the Firelands raids. Including the heroics.

I mean, they did that to the 4.0 normals when Firelands came out but…er…heck, I’m pretty sure this means that Firelands normal is now harder than the launch-raid heroics!

Half our raiding team just announced they’re on break until 4.3, and a few quit outright.

If “raid finder” stuff is easier…er…crap, I was just insulting someone on MMOC last week over proposing that exact idea. Because you know, subscriber numbers. Guess they want people playing titan instead!

I think nerfing Firelands is a good thing, as my guild is 3/7 (there are 7 bosses there, right?).

Raid Finder might be good, depending on how bad it’s nerfed. Hopefully you can still get Valor from them. So, sooo sick of running trolls. So, I don’t run anything anymore, really.

Raid finder stuff is easier but also gives lesser rewards and doesn’t give achievements. I think that’s a great way to do it.

The Firelands nerf probably works out to about the same as the 30% buff they gave players in ICC. The cool kids have had their chance to show off by now, time to help everyone finish that raid off so they can move on to Deathwing.

So they pretty much have to be showing off the next expansion at BlizzCon with the intention of releasing it in the first half of 2012. They’ve hinted at the possibility of a new class in the next expansion, probably no new races. I’m pretty interested to see what big changes they have planned.

I’m all for Firelands nerfs on normal mode, but on hard mode I think it’s just stupid. The whole point of those modes is for a challenge, as the normal mode content is pretty much a joke already.

I said the same thing with ICC and that 30% buff. I think it was great on normals, totally love them gradually making it easier for people to see the content, abhorred it for hard modes as it made mediocre guilds think they were good and really strained the quality of player base because you ended up having a sea of 11/12HM guilds, some of which had been there for months and just needed to recruit 2 or 3 people.

I will say I’m happy they reverted back to the 10m drop rate for the essences for the legendary and actually buffed the drop rate for the normal versions of the bosses. The downside of it is the fact that it shows they don’t think, at all, about the changes they apply to 10m and it’s a giant after-thought to them. They just go hey nerfed 25m by x%, we should do the same to 10m!

God help me. I quit, but now I’m tempted to come back for Brewfest (which started today) and farm the 365ilvl trinkets for my 6 85s. Talk me out of my madness!

Yes, log back in for repetitive daily quests to get things you won’t get any use out of because you’re not actively playing.

Yes, the Firelands dailies are soul crushing.

And the trolls. Seriously. Fuck trolls.

I only log in for progression raids now, at least until 4.3. And apparently because of this, my guild gave a bop 378 weapon in the bank to some shmuck since I’m “not around much.”

Fuck that.

I know. I really should just delete my account.

Also a bunch of crap I’m not even remembering off the top of my head

Those are all the games that WoW won’t let you play, particularly if you want those trinkets.

Farming the trinkets actually isn’t so bad on the scale of soul crushing things you can do in WoW. The queue for Direbrew was pretty quick last year, even for my dps characters.

Oh wait, I’m not helping.

Seriously, don’t renew your account just to farm some trinkets that are going to be replaced in the new 5-mans next patch. Stay off the hamster wheel.

If your account is still active, the Direbrew queues have been instant so far. And you can chain run the boss over and over until you get the trinkets you need. You can effectively get all your trinkets in an hour or two.

But don’t resubscribe just for that. I just took a 5-6 month break, did the Molten Front dailies progression for a few weeks, and I’m ready to leave again. The troll heroics in particular are awful to run via LFD.

I was thinking of coming back to run the new 5mans like I did with ICC. I figured the trinks will make the transition a bit easier.

I had no desire to run the old ZG 5mans, so I skipped those.

As far as other games, nothing is really lighting my fire right now which is why I’m leaning back towards WoW. I finished Deus Ex, got bored of Elven Legacy, can’t play console games (even though I keep buying them for some reason) and all those Steam games I bought only hold my attention for a little while.
