Granted, this is a very early showing of the trees. Clearly there is stuff missing or not yet updated. For example, disc priests think they are missing Atonement, yet other skills still reference Atonement. So… doesn’t really mean it is gone yet.

The talents now seem to cater more to personal playstyle preference than to raw performance, since each tier offers three variations of the same ‘theme’. Hardcore minmaxers will still prefer one specific build, but for most people it will be a true choice. Maybe the current options vanish, but new ones appear (many more if you consider all combinations should be viable and valid).
I think I like it a lot more than the Cata trees, however I doubt I’ll ever find out.
Not really, for disc. As it stands, the two playstyles centred on Renewed Hope / Strength of Soul and on Atonement are gone, you’re left with the ToT-centric style. It’s also taking what were options and making them compete with essential burst talents, and it’s increased grace /again/ to 30% ><
Disc was one of the most flexible trees, yes, but I’d rather that other trees had aspired to it’s flexibility!
You know you’re doing it wrong when your character customization system makes diablo 3’s look complex.

Not sure I understand this complaint. After all the min/maxing has been done, as someone above posted, you have maybe 2-3 “choices” in the current trees.
Some complain they can no longer make their melee hunter, or their shaman tank, or some other screwy unintended variant. Boo hoo. There are melee classes and tank classes, built for that purpose if that’s what you want to do.
Hybrids complain they can no longer ‘save the raid’ by casting that heal as a shadow priest, or by panic tanking as a resto druid. More reasonable, but still - that’s what some of these new talents are for. To be that ‘save the raid’ ability. Same abilities as before? No. As effective? You can’t say either way at this point. Were the ‘save the raid’ abilities before worth it? I’d say questionable.
If your raid didn’t have people trying to be a melee hunter or shaman tank, you probably wouldn’t have needed that shadow priest heal. And if you say your raid doesn’t have any of those ‘variant’ builds, then you are basically saying they are following close to the cookie cutter spec. So there wasn’t any real character customization going on anyway, was there.
Of course Diablo III can give greater “character customization” – it’s essentially a single-player game where every character is self-sufficient. WoW is an MMO where characters have to fit within the holy trinity of tanking/healing/DPS to be useful in a group environment. It’s also a game where the developers constantly attempt to keep both PVP and PVE balanced for all characters, unlike the “PVE rules all” view of Diablo III development.
So, 90% of both the active and passive abilities are given to you in WoW based on the single choice of what class specialization your character uses. Beyond that, it’s just a matter of glyphs and a handful of talent choices. That has always been the case, but with the new system they’re more obvious about it.
Eh, if you had a true hybrid - someone who did okay damage and okay healing, maybe half of the DPS of a “real” DPS class and half of the healing of a “real” healer - it could work well enough if they did both at the same time as a matter of course (a different version of the Shadow Priest’s Vampiric Embrace or Disc Priest’s Atonement).
I was hoping that Monk healing would be that niche. But it’s not. :(
Pure-buff or pure-support classes would also do fine in raids; they would just be super boring.
Get botted a lot, more like - it happened in DAOC.
Can’t bot that which takes meaningful action; the only reason it worked in DAoC was that the buffs were unlimited duration (until you died) and infinite range.
naa they would be in Fur-Plate!!!

It’s a spam bot (been reported). The new ones take a random sentence from the thread as the message to post when trying to get the postcount up.
Yeah, I just noticed he’s spamming pretty much every thread.
Looks like tomorrow is patch day. Time to get my transmog on, then get my raid finder on. Aw yeah.

374 min ilevel for raid finder. Guess I’ll have to run my alts through the new 5mans a few times. I really hope they made them more ICC-ish and less Cata-tonic.
From what I’ve heard, they’re not nearly as hard as HoR Heroic.
Servers are coming up, 4.3 is live!
What great new content has been added for the solo player?
Haha, just kidding.
