Nice :)

So I may be dragging a new player into the fold with this one. Does anyone know how it will approach new players? Do you essentially have to buy the old main game and cataclysm to play the 1-60 areas now? Does Cataclysm replace the old box? Can you play with just the old main game and would not get flying mounts/ new races?

edit: what is the cheapest way to get into and/ or fully upgraded with this game now?

You don’t have to buy the xpack to get the old world changes, but you do for the new races and whatnot. One of the things that was their purpose in Cataclysm was to make the new player experience better, so you will see a lot of improvements in that area.

Premade only, or rather join as a group of a minimum size. If one is in the habit of queuing solo when the mood strikes, one should be resigned to being steamrolled as in the days when Arena got all the PvP gear.

And if one does well enough, one can get a shiny new title, too. It looks just like the one my hunter has had for 4 years.

Dude. That discussion is on the same page as your question.

But yes. The cheapest way is to just buy the base game. The only things you’re locked out of are the new races and their starting zones (Blood Elf/Draenei for TBC, Goblin/Worgen for Cata).

And Death Knights as class for WoTLK

Would you also be locked out of the new archeologist secondary profession, for example?

I can’t tell. Maybe Athryn knows.

I’m pretty excited about the old world changes. At this point I’ve levelled so many alts (and then deleted them because I don’t like their noses, and then started them again, and then deleted them again) that I have all the quests up to BC memorized*. I just right-click the dudes, accept, and go. It’ll be nice to NOT know what to do next, and it what order.

*Yet I still do all the damn quests I know I should avoid, like Raene’s Cleansing. (So much running!)

Probably. My wife was locked out of learning the Jewelcrafting profession until she bought the expansion in which it’s introduced. She could still use JC-crafted items, though. So if archaelogy produces anything, you can probably use whatever it produces.

Actually, I don’t see anywhere that Cata is required for the Archaeology profession. Which means that you would just be limited to the first 300 pts of the skill.

Ok, so rated BGs are for premades and groups? I take it that means, for example, that in an AV you don’t have to have 40 in your premade to queue for a rated AV, but you do need a group of a minimum size? And will the extra slots be filled by players queuing solo?

That would suck a bit. I should be able to queue for non-rated BGs only, I hope.

If you queue solo, you are put in a non-rated BG. If you only do non-rated BGs, however, you won’t earn any Arena points to buy the PvP gear, so you’ll still be running into guys wearing the good stuff. I don’t know a lot more about it since I stopped paying attention when I found out I wouldn’t be getting a rating.

I did perk up when they announced that they were bringing back the old PvP titles to use with the new system. It didn’t make it better when they told us how nice they had been by not going with the original plan of wiping the titles from people who have them currently. What’s server history when some newer players have been whining to get them since Burning Crusade.

For Cataclysm:

Rated battlegrounds are capped at 15 people per side; a rated AV would be 15 vs 15, for example.

Anyone can queue solo and get the (new, improved!) Honor Points, which will buy last season’s PVP gear. They’re bringing back PVP weapons as well, so there should be a pretty wide variety of gear to get with just honor points, eventually.

The whole idea of needing a high arena rating to get all the “uber PVP gear” is going out the window. There will be two sets of PVP gear each season, but the high rating armor will just be cosmetically different; the stats are identical to the lower gear.

Ok, that is really good news. I enjoy BGs so it never feels like a grind to play them to get the honor gear. Being able to get PvP weapons is just icing on top of the icing. I don’t mind being a season behind the arena veterans.

More Justice Point infos:

Although we’ve revealed some details of the conversion process (https://forums.wow-europe.com/thread...74620794&sid=1), many of you have asked how many Justice and Valor Points bosses and daily dungeons will actually award. This list is incomplete, and the values may still change, but it covers the majority of the content we’ve been asked about.

* Lich King Heroic dungeon boss -- 16 Justice Points
* Lich King daily normal dungeon -- 12 Justice Points
* Lich King daily Heroic dungeon -- 23 Justice Points
* Lich King raid boss -- 23 Justice Points

* Cataclysm Heroic dungeon boss -- 75 Justice Points
* Cataclysm daily normal dungeon -- 75 Justice Points
* Cataclysm daily Heroic dungeon -- 75 Valor Points
* Cataclysm 10-player raid boss -- 75 Valor Points
* Cataclysm 25-player raid boss -- 105 Valor Points

It’s important to note that once you outgrow content, by leveling past it by a predetermined amount, you’ll no longer gain points. The ‘outgrown’ level for end-game Wrath of the Lich King content is likely to be level 81. Once you level beyond Lich King content you’ll still be able to enter the dungeons, kill bosses, and see their drops, but they will not award you with points. This same principle applies to all content that provides Justice Points, including content from The Burning Crusade.

Increased rewards for doing 25-man? Hmm.

Makes sense to me, you got a higher tier of badge for doing 25 man in Wrath.

Makes no sense to me given that they wanted 25 and 10 man instances to be equal, with just player preference determining which they do.

They’ve said from the beginning that you get more loot from doing the 25
