Where is “there” ? Wowhead has a small blurb about how each class is changing with Cata and none of them say AE damage is being nerfed.

Try mmo-champion.com and look at the class changes. I don’t know that you’ll see it there though, from what I understand the fights are now set up so that AE is not as effective as it was in previous fights. In Burning Crusade you’d get crucified if you tried to burn everything down (at least until you seriously outgreared the instance) but in Wrath that changed. As a mage, going back to CC will be a little scary and probably more fun overall. AE doesn’t take much skill to do, where as managing CC takes a lot more attention to the fight and this is what they apparently want now.

Damage isn’t being nerfed so much as tanks’ ability to hold onto obscene amounts of mobs. The goal is to bring back the need for crowd control along with more than a tiny amount of effort and thought to get through dungeons.

*edit. Or what lorini said.

Yeah, I’m sure those will get turned into Feats of Strength, like they did with the old daily heroic quest achievements.

I think it’s more about upping mob damage so much that it’s not feasible to tank a whole group at once.

Wait, what?

Well, masochist I am, I went with it using El’s guide since I had a massive stack of herbs sitting in the bank and still have tons left over.

Got to 440 in one night and tossed everything I made up on the AH except for the ones I kept. Starting making gold immediately. Guess it was a good time to dump glyphs.

Nah, I don’t care that much. ;)

We were talking about gearscore, H FOS/ICC 5mans and pugs/LFD groups. To claim they’re easy with people under 4k gs or 30k HP tanks is denying reality.

You can’t get in there with the random tool with <4k GS, but 30k HP is another thing entirely. I, as a tank, had 28k HP when I did Heroic FOS/POS and they were easy. Sorry.

In fact the only hard bit was those packs before the tunnel gauntlet, and that was just because of the flame mages. Resistance auras helped there.

My experience has been no matter how long a patch has been on the PTR, most of my mods break on patch day. So instead of looking at error messages all day, I’m just going to disable them.

That’s doubly true this time around. As with patch 2.0 and 3.0, most addons will break if they haven’t been updated for the new WoW API tweaks, and there have been a lot of undocumented API changes even in recent PTR/Beta patches.

On the bright side, Blizzard did it’s typical approach of “pick 5 popular addons and put them into the stock UI” again. The new raid frames are nice enough for many people to use on their own, and the mount/pet and professions UI changes are helpful, as well.

As far as AOE goes, both tank and DPS AOE damage has been reduced dramatically. While you still can AOE the first packs in ICC, for example, it takes considerably longer.

oh, phew. I thought there was new patch coming that disabled mods. That alone would stop me from going back to WoW when Cataclysm happens.

They also let most addon authors into the beta, so if it’s a popular mod, it will already have a 4.0 version out already.

People say this, but it doesn’t happens. Watch, I bet at least 75% of my mods will have some error tomorrow after the update. And I keep my mods current with the Curse client.

All I know is that I have to find something to replace the venerable rune state mod I was using for my DK since launch of WotLK. Consider (author of the ElitistJerk DK DPS articles) recommends this mod but it looks kind of ugly.

Any other DKs with something else to recommend for 4.0.1?

I use Acheron and I love it. It does a bit more than I use it for; I just much prefer its (highly configurable) display for runes/cooldowns and RP.

Also, I plowed through H FOS last night as my second-ever heroic as a tank (on this DK), with 28k hp unbuffed and I believe 536 Defense, and it was fine with a similarly geared group of Bear alts and a LFD rogue who put out a mighty 1.3k DPS (though he did manage to kite his soul fragment properly on Bronjahr, so there’s that).

I am usually the opposite, about 3/4 of my mods work come patch.

Oh, most of mine are usually good, but it’s that other 1/4 that end up driving me batty. I mostly just want to trim the fat and rebuild using only the essentials

If you’re just looking for a hud like display for your runes you can try a few of the hud mods out there. I use IceHUD myself and love it.

I use ICEhud for the health bars but don’t like their rune interface.
