Hehe, I had to do it, too. Good luck with your server, mine is cut throat.

Patch 4.0.1 tonight! Let’s see how much I have to relearn playing my hunter.

I logged out my druid in Tree Form. They will have to take it from my dead dry limbs.

I’m kind of excited about playing around with 4.0.1. I have various characters spread out almost every ten levels and they’re all going to get at least a few hours of play. I’ve also only given a very cursory glance at the changes. I want to be surprised.

I’d feel pity for tanks that aren’t warriors, but welcome to our world with AoE tanking. It means pretty much zero change for a warrior, and warrior AoE tanking is actually being buffed with the change.

I never had a problem AoE tanking and holding threat as a warrior, so that part personally won’t change for me. What will be interesting though is the incoming damage come Cata and how different that’ll be with basic mob mechanics, which is why CCing doesn’t matter at this point. Incoming dmg is a total joke.

This patch better not ruin my Halloween festivities.

The whining in trade chat last night was crazy. It never fails to amaze me just how many people have no clue that things like this patch are coming.

I’m really excited to see all the changes and play around with my various toons. My main is a hunter so it will be interesting to see how focus plays out. And on one hand I’ll miss Volley, but on the other I’ll be happy that most fights aren’t just volley spam anymore. It was pretty damn boring.

For the Hunters, check out Warcraft Hunters Union for a nice bunch of potential good specs for all 3 branches if you just aren’t sure which way to go.

Is Volley going away, or just won’t get used due to the AOE nerfs?

Anyone have any recommendations for a hunter that has never done a dungeon in a group, but wants to start before the expansion to get some experience? I know it can be vicious out there, but will a thick skin absorb all the BS?

Volley is gone afaik. Multi-shot is our AOE now.

Now’s probably a good time to learn to be honest, because the hunter’s changed completely so everyone’s going to be a little newbie.

Keep your pet on passive.

Don’t disengage off a cliff.

Feign death on wipes and tea bag the corpses.

Misdirect the Tank when he’s AFK.

That’s all I got.

Defensive, not passive. Also note that some instances have popular shortcuts and you’ll want to put your pet on stay or dismiss it before trying those shortcuts.

He’s new to instances, it should be on passive (make sure Growl is off, please!). Regarding that, a good general rule is to wait a few seconds (count to 3 or something) before firing on the target. IE: let the tank get some aggro, last thing you want to do is pull from him.

It is even MORE important in 4.01 because Hunter crit is now through the fucking roof and will be at the highest levels ever, meaning those big juicy crits will generate tons of threat (so Feign Death early and often too).

No, defensive. Defensive doesn’t get you into trouble. Passive just screws with your DPS and will give an added layer of micromanagement you really don’t need.

There’s also the new “Move To” command.

And threat? Misdirect the tank.

I left all my characters in Dalaran. Fortunately at least I can portal the Mage and the DK but it could be minutes before I can overcome the lag to get Stouie, Darhanna, and Colle out of there. Oh well, I can only play one at a time anyway :)

Hey does anyone know if Fire is going to be a dungeon/raid worthy spec this time around? I’d really like to change my mage to a purely elemental magic user but before the dropoff from Fire to Arcane seemed to be too high.

Considering how many people I knew that were moving their chars out of Dalaran, I don’t think you need to be all that worried.

Wait, are they making the Dalaran portal change in 4.01? Because that’s unbelievably stupid (if par for the course).

I’ve been pug-raiding as a fire mage for the last few months. Doing competitive damage with no complaints or eye rolls from fellow raiders. From the talent change previews it looks like thing are going to get better rather than worse due to more/longer hot streak procs.

I’m also hearing that dual-spec will drop dramatically in price soon. 1000 to 100.

Oh shit, I forgot about that part of the patch. I think most of my characters are still in Dalaran.

I had also forgotten that Heirloom prices jumped up massively, so I had to chain a few heroics to grab them in preparation for my worgen characters

So what are you guys using for downloading the patch? I figured I may as well start patching up, even if I’m not going to play… torrent it, download it from filefront or something, or use the Blizzard downloader?
