So is it true they disabled /follow in BGs, raids, and dungeons in the 5.2 patch? I can see how multiboxers might not like that. :)

Was pretty sure most true multi boxers split keyboard input to multiple clients. Might effect some weirdos that have two accounts with a priest following their shaman to top them off after fights.

Last night was a bit of a mixed bag for me. Tried the Isle of the thunder king. Lots of quests, but still just ~170 rep per. There’s just too many factions for me to get excited about one more long grind. There are a lot of them, tho, and last night probably took me a lot longer than future runs since I was just learning my way, so we’ll see.

The quests themselves weren’t all that. There’s a part where you get turned into a saurok and gain super powers of jumping and falling, which is very cool and greatly speeds movement. The quests themselves, though, are almost all just kill quests, with a few “smash altars or gather gizmos” quests thrown in. They didn’t really give me a sense of surgical missions, more like the goal is to carpet bomb the area entirely. This approach actually makes a degree of sense to me from a beach head point of view. I’m hoping the follow up quests as we unlock portions of the isle are varied.

The farm did not make me happy. The seed packs were brilliant and easy to use, so score a big one for that. The plow --almost-- worked, bashing and stunning the vermin I ran over, making them very easy to dispatch. However, once I killed the vermin that I lowed over their patches remained listed as “occupied soil” and would not let me till them. So I lost those patches for the day. Also, Yoon is supposed to give over the keys to the farm, but I never saw that quest. Is it in there, and I’m just missing it?

I was looking for the buy the farm quest too.

I did some talk talk talk quest to get Yoon on the council or something and then the farm started offering me reputation missions. Does that mean i own the farm? If so… underwhelming.

Giving rep for heroics was a pretty cool move. It is still a low amount, about as much as doing a daily, but it makes the rep grind a little less of an absolute rep grind hell.

Didn’t get a chance to check out the new area yesterday, but look forward to it today. Being a warlock i look forward to it more than most i’d imagine. What i do not look forward to is new rep grinds.

I’m assuming your both exalted with Tillers right? I haven’t had time to do the farm stuff yet, but I saw some yellow exclamation points at the farm, so I’m assuming that’s them.

The Isle is…well, another daily quest hub. It feels like more overall rep than the others I think (about 2000 per day), but that’s spread over 10 or 11 quests I think. It was cool when a rare popped and a bunch of people jumped on it. It was not cool trying to do the first set of quests (all the dead Mogu junk) and having every single spawn point camped by someone. I really wish there was some way to get people into different copies of the area, ala Guild Wars, when there’s just too many folks to quest. The other areas (Saurok and Trolls) feel larger and were generally not as problematic.

While I suppose it shouldn’t be surprising that Blizz chose to add two more reps, one of which is a daily grind, it’s still somewhat disappointing. It is nice at least that they’re flavoring it up some with the rares, treasure vault run (I got a key yesterday), and the server progression thing.

[edit] Just noticed something…

I did some talk talk talk quest to get Yoon on the council or something and then the farm started offering me reputation missions. Does that mean i own the farm? If so… underwhelming.

Yes, that should be it. You should also be able to bind your hearthstone to the hut I think. Beyond the work orders and mini-Inn, that’s all that changed.

Doesn’t Island rep only award 496 valor gear? Not sure why one would bother when Raid Finder gives 502 and Shado-pan Assault has 522 valor items.

4000 rep to go with Dominance Offensive when the patch hit today.
I did beat the laughable easy 10 “legendary” pets to open the new daily pet quest which is surprisingly “beat the 10 legendary pets”.
Then I went to the Isle of Giants to check it out. A lot of really nasty stuff with millions of hp running around. I tried my luck at some troll and it was ok beating him (rogue with ilevel 472 without raiding gear, enchants and upgrades so raiders should be able to ace these fights). I farmed them for an hour and ended up with around 10 new Dino pets. The drop rates are insane right now!
They are max 1000g on Horde side (the “Loser side” on my server since Cata). I transferred them to ally and have them for 3600g buyout there right now undercutting everyone else by 1000g). We will see whether they sell or not. If the drop rates stay as they are right now the market will be dead very soon.

I have no interest in opening the new dailies as I had enough of daily grind in Mists for now. I will probably stop playing until 5.3 hits once I got the 4 new pets on the Isle of Thunder.

Found the farm quest. it doesn’t start with Yoon, but with Nana up above him on top of the hill. You know you are done when you come back to the farm and the orders board is up.

The plow is till buggy, sometimes leaving soil as “occupied” even after I kill the vermin.

I ran through the alliance side of the Isle of Thunder with my lock. I would have really preferred it if there were a few fewer quests that gave a bit more rep. I typically play late at night before bed and thought of doing 12-16 quests just gives me a headache. I can see the folks who play all night every night loving it, just not me. I do still like the idea of the progress on the Isle being server-wide, and not just an individual thing like the Firelands were.

Yeah, for the “take over the farm” problem, I actually encountered the same issue last night when I had some spare time to do the quest…I couldn’t find the quest. A friend pointed me in the right direction (Nana Mudclaw). I couldn’t see the quest marker on the minimap because it’s inside and the contrast is kind of low, so it’s hard to see it if you’re not looking for it.

The honeymoon phase is over, this patch sucks.

The whole buying the farm thing is a joke. Talk to someone and you can now grow stuff to get rep. Did this take them 10 minutes to implement?

The new island sucks. If you thought the original expansion was a rep grind, you haven’t seen anything yet. Prepare to do like 10-15 160 rep quests, because the previous dailies gave too much rep. The rare monster spawn thing sucks as well. Hope you have fun printing out a map and waiting in the middle of the new island doing nothing as you wait for a call that something has spawned.

Hopefully this patch gets more exciting as things unlock, but i’m not doing any of these annoying as hell dailies.

Some of the dailies were okay, like the ones that have you leaping all over as a saurok. But I do agree that mostly they are kill quests in areas where you can easily get ganked by multiple roaming mobs.

I think the green fire quest doodad drops off of rares on the Isle of Thunder, ya? So far I haven’t seen any rares, just elites.

Also, the “It’s nearly impossible to fly” thing seems to not bother the hordes of flying trolls all over the island. Bah.

Also, the new LFR says I don’t qualify for the new instances. Do I need that key?

So far I am finding this patch to be more frustrating than anything else. even the simple stuff like the work orders can’t be done right because of the buggy virmin soil stopping me from being able to plant two sets of 8 plots, as required.

Dailies are pretty much dailies…does anyone find them fun after they do them the first few times? At least with Dominance Offensive I knew I had some story that was coming every few days as well. Tiller’s wasn’t much different than the others, but they quests seemed to take a lot less time, which made them more tolerable. The Isle of Thunder quests remind me somewhat of the Firelands dailies, which is a big part of why I left the game for a year. At least these are a bit more spread out though.

As for the farm, I like the changes, but they’re nothing huge. You can bind to the farm like an inn, but I don’t see much point when there’s an inn right next door with a vendor so you can sell stuff. Being able to plant 4 seeds at once is very nice. The work orders for rep change seems pretty good to me as well. It’s not enough that I would want to grind out a whole rep that way, but it’s equivalent to 2-3 quests, so it does make things go faster.

Has anyone noticed an increased drop rate in LFR? Maybe I had the wrong impression, but Ghostcrawler was basically saying that rather than giving us a new set of 5-mans to catch up to the current raid tier in gear, we’d do that in the previous tier of LFR. I assumed the rate at which you could acquire that gear would be roughly equivalent, but so far I’ve killed 5 or 6 bosses this week with nothing but fail bags. One of my friends who was running with me got one drop. As someone who is actually trying to catch up, it certainly doesn’t feel like I’m doing so at this point.

Are you 480? Also, the LFR for Throne of Thunder hasn’t opened yet. Here’s the schedule of when stuff opens:

March 5 – Normal Throne of Thunder
March 12 – Heroic Throne of Thunder and LFR Wing 1 “Last Stand of the Zandalari”
March 19 – LFR Wing 2 “Forgotten Depths”
April 2 – LFR Wing 3 “Halls of Flesh-Shaping”
April 16 – LFR Wing 4 “Pinnacle of Storms”

So far I am finding this patch to be more frustrating than anything else. even the simple stuff like the work orders can’t be done right because of the buggy virmin soil stopping me from being able to plant two sets of 8 plots, as required.

I’m not seeing any issue, but maybe I’m not understanding what’s happening to you. I typically pull up the prior day’s crop and click any virmin soil while I’m on the way (pet kills that stuff easily enough). Once the soil is cleared of any weeds or virmin, I plow it. Is that not how we’re supposed to do it?

I can’t believe they keep adding in more rep grinds. I know they look it as optional, but other than raiding, that is the only real content they are adding.

To be fair, there was other content added. The Island and 5.2 isn’t just dailies/rep. There is a treasure room scenario (grab as much as you can in a limited timeframe), profession leveling improvements (at least for blacksmithing and fishing), and I think some solo story-related scenarios. There’s also new stuff for people who do pet battles, the warlock green fire quest, more stuff with the legendary questline thing, and minor changes like the farm work orders. To be sure, the majority of the content will almost always be raid-related, and it seems like second will be dailies and rep grinds, but so far it’s not like Cataclysm, where all they added was raids, 5-mans, and rep/daily grinds.

Most of what you mention is linked to rep grinding or just plain grinding.

I haven’t found any quest there not directly linked to massive grinding yet. Which is my problem. I don’t mind doing daily quests, but for the love of God, don’t halve rep rewards and double the number of daily quests! This just makes the grind super obvious!

I would have preferred more group out r raid content and less super grinding content personally. Even as semi casual I can join a lfr a few times a week. What I can’t do is 2 hours of daily quests every day. Total failure.

The key to the treasure room scenario was in the chest I got as a reward for finish the dailies on day 1. From what I’ve read, that’s possible once a week. I think the key is also a rare drop from mobs on the island as well, but if you don’t like dailies, you’re not going to grind mobs either.

Profession stuff, I guess you could call it grinding, but if you do that then everything in the game is grinding.

Story-related scenarios, I think these open up as the server progresses through the Isle, so linked to the daily grind yes, but not your grind (unless there’s a rep requirement which is possible).

Pet battles, not grinding. Warlock quest, not grinding. Legendary quest, not grinding.

Farm stuff is related to rep, both in the way you obtain it, and the purpose. But Tillers was ridiculously easy to gain rep for (by far the easiest of the Panda reps), and the work orders are meant to make getting other reps easier.

I don’t mind doing daily quests, but for the love of God, don’t halve rep rewards and double the number of daily quests! This just makes the grind super obvious!

I agree with you there. It was really disappointing when I started working on Golden Lotus after working on Tillers to see they’d basically taken the same amount of rep and spread it out among 2-3x the number of quests, most of which take longer than any of the Tiller quests. And then as you level it to different levels, instead of sending you off to new quest hubs for higher rep values, they just stick stuff on the end to extend the amount of time it takes to finish.

That said, I have no idea where 2 hours of daily quests come from. I can finish Isle of Thunder (10-11 quests) in about 20-25 minutes now that I’m familiar (and generally do it during low competition for mob times). Dominance Offensive (the other rep I’m working on) is 10-15 minutes tops. On the days I don’t have time for much, that’s all I do, and that’s fine with me. Just because Blizz gives me 4 or 5 reps I can work on now, doesn’t mean I’m going to work on them all at once. As a casual player, that’s the choices you have to make.

For those having issues with occupied soil i found logging in and out will restore the plot back. You need to kill the vermin again but it’s better than leaving the plot empty. You can use the house at the farm as a quick /camp spot.

Not sure about the complaints about the daily rep grind. The only point of doing the dailies is if you want your side to progress to the next stage. The actual rep doesn’t really matter all it does is open up vendor 476 gear.

Don’t forget the usual mount at exalted. Plus dailies still provide lesser charms.

5.2 is pretty disappointing for me. I play pretty much for raiding. I prefer LFR and 5 man content for grinding out VP. What I got was yet another rep grind and more dailies which I just hate hate hate. I would have much preferred a few new 5 mans instead of all this other crap. Add to that the massive mage nerfs (my main) and things are kind of sucking right now.
