You can’t tell the pit lord to start running when he starts summoning felhounds. It is simply too slow. I wiped MANY times before learning this.

You either need to preemptively tell it to run away or you need to use a portal to teleport him away fast.

Felhound AI is pretty weird. There is some trick to make them not dispel the enslave, even if in LOS, but it isn’t simply getting agro on them or making them turn their back on the pit lord. Backing away while keeping agro on them seems to work, but… not always.

Whenever i have time to try this again, i will be trying the LOS trick in the hopes it doesn’t require as much luck.

I got some time to try this again.

THe LOS method works, but the pit lord is too slow unless you use a portal with him following you. This means you need to not be on cd when he summons the felhounds, or you instant wipe. You need to remember to tell the pitlord to follow you before you portal, or you instant wipe.

The problem i ran in to the last couple times was he cast the uber aoe while i was finishing off the felhounds and because the pitlord is so slow, by the time it gets back, i am dead. I’ve also died a few times from forgetting to tell the pitlord to follow me before i take hte portal. He only portals with you if he is following you.

So that leaves us with a long fight where bad luck or making even the smallest mistake can get you killed easily.

I think it is possible with luck. I just need to make damn sure i enter felhound state with 5 embers or i might as well kill myself. Also using a teleport to get back to position instaed of running back. Basically anything i can do to kill those felhounds faster. I melt the imp phase now. I’m not sure if they nerfed it or i’ve just become used to it.

Damn it. i was doing great and the encounter seemed to bug out.

I was on the 2nd felhound phase, did the teleport los trick like normal and then the summoned demon and the boss attacked me for no reason i could tell. I hadnt even touched the other demon after letting the pitlord hit him a while.

There is absolutely no margin for error in this fight.

I had him at 40%, last felhunter phase, PLENTY of time on the doom.

i took that portal thing and a felhunter teleported to me before i could run back. Instant wipe. I also over agroed the boss a little so i probably would have died anyway though.

What i found works really well is to mostly tank the boss but deagro on imp phase. then make sure you agro is lower than take things easily until he summons pitlords. when he does, pitlord follow, teleport behind wall, pitlord stay, run back doing a fire in middle of room. kill felhound asap. Go back to balls to the walls dps on boss until next imp phase.

ALso make sure you have 5 embers going in to felhounds. The only time i will use them before felhound and after imp is when i get a stun on him and then i unload one chaos bolt.\

Just now i forgot to enslave again during first pitlord phase, had to kill myself with that new dagger because it would have been impossible to continue. No margin for error.

I will probably finish this today or tomorrow, but this fight is basically broken because it is not fun. Long fights that require intense micromanagement, a bit of luck, pretty good gear and 100% perfect play are not a good idea in games generally. Still it will be nice when it is finally done… and then i can feel special until they nerf it.

I think you absolutely need purification potions though if you dont have 500+ item level. I think i might be able to do it without them with 492, but i’m not sure. Probably just going not going to take the chance.

Going to try tomorrow with purification potions. I am consistently getting him near death and past the first two stages now. I have around 3 minutes left and i should be able to do it, but dont want to chance it.

I might go in to more details on the fight after if anyone cares, but some things that helped me:

-eat chaos bolts with sacrificial pact/twilight ward

-Do as much dps as possible, not thinking about agro until imp stage, but…

-Delay doom as much as possible. he won’t cast it if you have the portal -agro buff. So keep using the portal until he starts casting it on you. don’t try to portal avoi the doom, you can’t. instead stop the first doom with a charge. He will not cast the aoe until he dooms you so this is perfectly safe.

-make sure you enter imp phase with no embers. You generate them so fast aoe’ing the imps, get some good dps on the boss before you need to watch agro with your remaining imps so you don’t overflow.

-Make sure you soul shatter when he summons imps. This is the main time i die from chaos bolts, because i’m trying to aoe these imps and i dont notice one.

-make sure you leave the imp stage with 5 embers

-After imps and before he summons felhounds, make sure your pitlord has firm agro on him. Hold back dps if you need to, but you CANNOT take agro from him while the felhounds are up or you will probably die.

-The second he starts summoning felhounds, tell your pitlord to follow you, use a portal to behind a pillar, tell pitlord to stay and then start running back. as you’re running back, set a rain of fire in middle of area so felhounds run through it. aoe stun them when they are together. Havoc chaos bolt and chaos bolt them to death asap. While you’re doing this, if the boss followed your pitlord behind the pillar (he normally does if you position him right), make sure you tell your pitlord to attack him again.

-as soon as the felhounds go down, do full dps on him. He will probably aoe as well so be ready for that.

-Make sure you dismiss/enslave your pitlord every big demon phase. This is how i wiped at 20%, i thought one re-enslave was enough and didnt do it again in the 2nd demon phase.

I ended up buying a tome for my lock. Was 17k on ah and I was tired of chasing rares ( though I probably ended up only killing 30 rares since I only did that while under vp cap).

I spent the longest time in shrine of souls maze because I didn’t notice that the demology wild imps could trigger the traps. Spent a couple hours on the final boss so far. I usually end up dying on felhunters. Mostly cause I end up forgetting some detail like dispelling or avoiding cb while felhunters are up.

Are there any benchmarks for damage I should do at certain stages? I usually have him at 70-65% by the time felhunters come out. My gear is around ilvl 500

You might be able to do it, but it would be chancy.

For a high chance, strongly recommend purification potions. I am 492, get him to around 70% using my strategy in first felhunter phase. My strategy does hold dps during imp/felhunter phase so i dont get agro though. I was not able to kill him in time without using a purification potion. I’d get him to like 10%.

I start the fight (after pitlord enslave) with an immediate portal and then i wait until he casts doom, which i block with a charge. This puts off the doom for a little bit without having you sit around doing nothing for too long.

I got him today. I was really happy to finally have it done, but really disappointed to see that they appear to have removed the epic ring reward.

Oh is the new Throne of Thunder wing fun in LFR. Durumu in particular seems to be troublesome because of the disintegration beam/maze mechanic. Unless they end up nerfing it to the ground, I expect it’ll be fun for many weeks to come until folks start realizing you can’t just stand there.

Not raiding anymore but I recently did the Isle of Thunder 3 summoned bosses.
My question as someone who had not read up on them was: “Anything I need to know besides don’t stand in shit?”.
After we had killed all of the bosses someone from a pretty good guild asked me if I’d consider joining them.
I was baffled as it seemed not standing in shit is enough to join a raiding guild these days…

I politely declined as I’m raid-retired for good.

I had meant to give this another try last week, but haven’t been on much. I’m a bit bored with WoW right now.

Right after 5.2 came out I did a set of dailies or two, then quit for a bit. Came back and the dailies are gone, instead I was offered a solo instance. Did that, advanced the plot I’m guessing, it drops me at a new hub where there are no dailies and only another solo instance available… Soooo, can I ever go back and do those dailies? Did I miss anything cool? Any achievements / rewards? I remember one in the first set that gave me a Saurok disguise that I thought was pretty fun. Would be a shame if I missed a ton of content. Are they just catching me up and then I’ll be dumped into the current (final?) hub with some dailies I can do from here until eternity?

I logged on for the first time in 3 weeks and found out that my guild had left the server. I guess that means I don’t have to break it to them that I’m not really playing much lately.

Yes, there are six phases so once you are caught up to the current phase (probably the last) you will go back to the daily format but with more of the island unlocked and more quests.

Oh, cool, so none of them have been removed and I can see all the content? That’s great.

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria is currently on sale on Newegg for $14.99 with promo code EMCXSWV225.

That’s the idea. The only thing you can miss is a few of the early dailies. And believe me, they were not that interesting.

Between concepts like rep-linked story quests and single-player scenarios, Blizz is experimenting quite interesting in RP terms. Although personally I’d have made them 5-man, and used NPC’s to fill slots.

(Also, I think they’ve set up a bit of an artificial line between Scenarios (“3 man”) and Instances (“5 man”)…I’d be happy with some 5-mans using existing geometry as the scenarios do, especially when in some cases the “existing” geometry isn’t used for anything else and feels forlorn and empty in the “outside word”. (Lost City of the Tol’Vir in Cata was also like that!)

This new dungeon was pretty disappointing.

I’m not in some uber guild. I do random LFR. Every time they opened a new wing of the raid, i would do it a few days later (on the weekend) and be done with it no problem. Maybe there was some slight learning pains, but it seems the reason they put the delayed openings in to play was so that people didnt finish it the first night it was out.

I got my green fire and haven’t logged on in a few weeks.

I could farm the new raid and maybe one of the old ones to get better gear, but why? I’m already easily doing the first two wings of the new raid. I suppose i will have to log on once next weekend to see if they did anything interesting in the 3rd wing.

There were some cool moments.

The hydra is a very visually impressive boss, but once you get over that, the fight is super bland and repetitive. People seem to fall asleep from how repetitive it is and firebomb the raid. Even i’ve been in danger of doing it most fights (but i do pay attention and move away at the last moment).

The lightning + water guy is pretty cool.

Spirit boss is kind of interesting.

Haven’t done 3rd wing yet.

The first boss of the 3rd wing is less forgiving, as the maze-thing he puts on the floor still needs to be navigated or it will kill you. I agree with you overall though, the LFR is tuned so much that you don’t need to worry about any mechanics, so you “see” the boss only in the most superficial sense. You really don’t get a feel for how difficult the bosses are even on normal modes, and gear doesn’t make much difference.

Well, you have to worry about the mechanics i think, but they are mostly of limited complexity unless you’re a tank, in my opinion.

To be honest, for half the fights i didn’t even read about the fights before doing them. Nearly each fight has like one “do(n’t) do this or die” mechanic and that is it. They are also generally pretty obvious (either directly or you get some auto raid warning). Obviously there is only so much you can do if you want it doable by LFR, and i no longer really care about wow enough to join an actual raiding guild again, but it still leaves a short, unsatisfying experience.

Their loot strategy with this expansion has just been horrible too. If they had thought things through more we could have been encouraged to do heroics and lower raids in order to buy some powerful gear with tokens and upgrade raid gear. Instead everything outclasses what is before it and you end up having nothing else to do once you’re doing the thunder raid.

The mind-boggling thing is that the “Prince” quest line is cut off for non-raiders pretty early on.
That’s quite some lore that is not accessible to people like me (unless we read about it on sites / listen to the audio files).
Same with the Brawler guild unless you manage to get an invitation (killed the rogue type ally mob a few times but no drop so far).

Really strange.
