World of Warcraft: The War Within: Truly AAA - Alleria, Anduin and Arachnophobia

I enjoyed the opening quest line of the War Within. But I’m wondering – can my alts skip it? Not an issue for now; I’m going to push ahead with my main.

Once you have done it the first time, when you go to Silithus you can just say “skip the story” and go right to world questing.

Excellent. Thanks!

This (almost) makes me want to jump in again, but it has been so long that I don’t even know which expansion I played last time. Would I need to buy a sh*tload of things now in order to be able to enjoy everything, like flying those dragons? Or ‘just’ the latest expansion (+ a new subscription)?

Just the latest expansion + a sub. Everything else is included as older content.

Ok, that is good to know. Still: way too much to play anyway at the moment, so I’d better not… We’ll see…

To be clear - I believe this skip is only available after one character has completed the entire TWW campaign (you’ll know when you have as you get a screen telling you that you’ve unlocked Adventure Mode and a few other things).

I was a little sad when I tried to use the skip after finishing the intro on my main and it wasn’t there.

Well, not complete the entire campaign, but you’ll have to unlock world quests, which is about 80% through the campaign.

The campaign continues past that, as they added in extra campaign quests last week.

With my super casual play style I am going to wait a while before picking this up. I want to get the first few content patches out so I can maximize my time.

Like others here, I just solo the damn game now.

I’m resisting going back… so far. I kinda burned myself out because at the end game there is so much focus on raiding or m+ that I feel like I’m not playing the game right by not doing that stuff. Plus I’m an old MUD person, so ‘number go up’ is ingrained.

I’m also a dwarf person. I have so many dwarves that when Earthen were announced it wasn’t that big of a draw (except that they can be Horde, which is cool).

But then I saw some recent Earthen transmogs. They are spectacular. Dammit. I’m still holding out, but the whole 20th Anniversary thing is going to REALLY test me.

Ok, my resolve lasted a whole two days…

It’s loading now, so while I’m waiting: should I start a new character, or use one of those boosts to lvl 70? Any advice?

If you played WoW before or are playing with an experienced friend, use a boost. Otherwise level up as normal.

You said you just wanted to solo the game, so I suggest a hunter or warlock.

Depends on what you’re looking for. I found a L70 boosted character a bit overwhelming at first, but I was playing an Enhancement Shaman and that spec is particularly bad with the number of buttons it needs to manage (or so I’ve read). It had been since Cataclysm that I last played him and so while some core functionality was familiar, it just took me a while to really get my feet under me in terms of how all the abilities and talents interacted with each other.

On the other hand, 70 lets you get into TWW right away and that can be a big plus. I did make a new character to play around with and was surprised that it allows you to go directly to Dragonflight instead of working my way up to L60 before going in there. So if you haven’t explored Dragonflight, that might be interesting as well? Kind of depends on how important it is to you to get to the end of campaign before Season 1 starts here in a few days.

EDIT: I noticed on my new alt that I had a 5% XP bonus. I just googled it and realized that it’s a stacking 5% XP bonus per max level character. That’s really cool, because what I was thinking while typing this reply was that I wish there was a middle ground option where I could start a L1 character but then fast track my way to L70 rather than just a straight boost, and that kind of fits the bill.

Thanks, those are good suggestions. I’m able to log in now and I see my highest character is lvl 50, so that isn’t that far off. I’ll try him first (hunter) and see if that is too overwhelming, in which case I might just start over!

I ended up using a boost on a L60 character and it was a big waste. Getting from L50->70 shouldn’t be a big deal. If I could do it again and were in your shoes, I’d hold onto the boost to get a fresh L1 up because that’s a significantly larger time savings. I also didn’t realize that boosts were like $60 (!), otherwise I probably would have been a bit more cautious in how I used it. I just slapped it on a character and went to town. :)

Yes, leveling from 1-70 goes fairly quick. I would only boost a fresh character.

I have a boost from Dragonflight that I haven’t used to get right to 60, and I am going to wait to use that on whatever Earthen I make.

If you boost an allied race you can’t get their heritage armor with that character, if you care about that. It does work with the “real” races that start at level 1.

Curses!

The Heritage armor looks dope too.

Seems to be some rather gigantic class changes coming in the next update. My poor Enhance shammy, it looks like they’re helping with the button bloat but there’s some fairly large sounding nerfs in there as well. Ah well, that spec is cursed every time I play it so I’m usually expecting to have to make a switch, haha. Will have to see what the Big Brain people think about it once they’ve played around with it.

Most of them look super-cool and of course fit the race fantasy yeah.
