WoW: Cataclysm Collector's Edition actually worth it!?

I must say the WoW: Cataclysm Collector’s Edition actually sounds worth the money, which may be the first time I’ve ever said that about any collector’s edition.

That said, Blizzard has a pretty good reputation with these things. No silly glasses. No cat helmet. Just a bunch of things I’d like to check out and pretty book for the coffee table.

I think I’m in. What about you folks? Anyone happy with past collector’s editions, WoW or otherwise?

I’ve purchased each collector’s edition to date, including the Diablo II CE. This one looks pretty good, and the 12 minute sample of music they’ve let out into the wild is fantastic.

Considering what’s included, it’s probably worth it, but I’m not interested in it.

Then again, I’m never interested in collector’s editions of anything, so I’m probably not the target audience.

What he said. In our household, one of us gets the CE (me) and one of us gets the normal copy. This CE is pretty much the same as the previous ones of course.

Yeah, I’m not really interested in the stuff it has, so it isn’t worth it to me. The box does look pretty awesome though!

Heh, someone at Blizzard was lazy:

Cata box has a recolored frost whelp from the Lich King CE.

Yeah it looks similar to the other CEs of WoW.
In vanilla at least you had 3 pets to choose from for every char you started.

Still getting it as the production values of the book + DVD + soundtrack will be top-notch as always.

Where do I put my cc details? ;)

Yes.

I just don’t have room for CE stuff that I will look at for a while and then my wife will put it into a box in the attic when our small house starts to burst at the seems again.

I am still tempted, but my frugality wins out nowadays.

I’m a sucker for collector’s editions, but the WoW ones have always been sold out by the time I’m even aware they’re now up for sale.

I bought the BC and Wrath CE’s, but this one just looks like more of the same. E.g., another pet I’ll never pull out.

The original WoW CE was quality. I expect so will this one be.

I bought the CE for the original US release of WoW. Just got the regular versions of the EU release + expansions.

Hmm, kinda wondering if I could persuade customer service to flag my EU WoW account as a CE one if I provide them with the details of my US edition… nah, they probably won’t do it. Anyone have experience in this?

And why is that, exactly? Cataclysm follows the same formula as the WotLK and TBC collector’s editions, to a T.

A dependable history of quality collector’s editions??

I need to replace my Babylon 5 mousepad…so I gotta order it I guess. Plus there is the possibility of a spiffy turn in card in that deck you get.

I have the wrath of the lich king and starcraft 2 CEs + 2-3 others.

Not a big fan of Collectors Editions, but blizzard knows how to make them (love the art books and soundtracks).

I’ll try to get my hands on a cataclysm CE.

A bit worried about it only being at retail stores – GameStop has been far less dependable in securing CEs than Amazon, for me. I’ll see about going with another retail store, I suppose.

I can’t really pass up a WoW CE since the Burning Crusade soundtrack has never been made available. They finally sold the one from the first release, but haven’t done the same with TBC.

May I ask where you read that? The link in the OP did not mention that - or at least CTRL+F “available” “only” “retail” did not turn up anything.

If so I may need to return to a local game store where employeed know/knew me by first name to see if I can still get my hands on a preorder…

Wow.Com:

The contents and price of the Cataclysm Collector’s Edition has been announced by Blizzard today. The Collector’s Edition will run for $79.99 and be available only at retail stores. The release date has not been announced yet.

Well, that was a fast response. Thanks.
