10-Day Free Guest Pass – invite one of your friends to join the epic quest

I’m not usually one for collector’s editions, but I bought the one for WarCraft III and was TOTALLY happy with it. It was really high quality, with meaty extras and a sturdy box. Unless the price on the WoW collector’s edition is completely insane, I may pick one of these up.

Or better yet, I may wait a few months until they realize they made way too many of them and they slash them down to the same price sas the regular edition. That’s what happened with the WC3 ones, too. :)

It would be funny if it only came with a partial game. Like, a random incomplete assortment of assets and a trunctuated .EXE. Take that, Warcraft fanboys!

I wonder what the pet is, though. There are already lots of cool pets that you can get in the beta. My character has a cat.

And I wonder if using the Guest Pass could work like buying two CD-Keys in one box. Since my GF is planning on playing, too, that’d be good way to beat the system.

Ah, the cloth map… A strange artifact of the computer RPG that refuses to disappear, and still make me go "huh’ every time I see it.

It says it’s only for 10 days.

No mention of retail price. Assuming around the $70-80 mark, like the WarCraft III collector’s edition…? Possibly more?

You don’t think they’d let that 10 day guest just pay the monthly to subscibe? I guess I can see it both ways, but it still makes me sad if that’s the case.

If pre-ordering came with a beta slot (a la City of Heroes) I’d do it, along with countless others, knowing I could sell it or trade it off easily enough if I didn’t like it.

Oh yeah I am so buying this, on ebay for 9.95 about a year after it comes out.

The cloth map makes me go all misty eyed for the days when I struggled to get the Ultima VII memory manager to work with my PC.

Ahh, the golden age of CRPGs…

Ha no kidding. Most of the crap thrown into collector’s editions just does nothing for me.

About the only thing I can think of that would make me want to shell out the extra $$$ for a CE is a badass spiral bound manual and a strat guide with actual strategy instead of outdated shit or a half baked walkthrough.

The double account is worth the price for two friends.

I’m not interested anyway.

I can’t think of a mainstream MMO less that ever let a friend just pay the monthly fee after using a friend’s trial key thing.

pretty sure daoc, AO and planetside all let you do exactly that…

Aw man. The Ultima cloth maps were awesome. Especially Ultima III. After that, through IV and V at least, the printing quality wasn’t so good. But this is still one of the all time great gaming artifacts IMO:
