…which means the 1.9 patch is probably happening tomorrow. Just a heads up.
I doubt it will happen tomorrow for 2 reasons:
- The holiday event is still running.
- Putting up a new large patch up the tuesday before Christmas is asking for trouble from a support standpoint.
My money is on the Asher. Sorry, UC!
I’m going to go with Asher as well. They may well want these in before the peak holiday time.
As much as I cant wait for 1.9 I agree with UC and I really think they should wait. Oh well if they dont though!
I’m with Asher, this patch has taken too long as it is.

Yes, they most definitly want this live before chistmass so they can at least test it for a week under mass load. Also, I plan on playing my 1.9 pally next week, so they better release it already.
Test server was taken down because there were only 10-30 people on it at any given time.
My money is on next week.
1.9 was far from complete, if the PTR builds were any indication. I imagine it’s going to take them another week to finish cleaning up/testing some of the mechanics changes, and then they can work on AQ internally until someone manages to actually open it.
From the european forums.
It’s kind of strange, this is a rather large patch and there’s so very little interest in it. Perhaps because there’s so much raid content already that most people (even fairly heavy raiders) haven’t finished it all yet. Perhaps because from everything I’ve seen AQ looks rather boring with silly art direction. In my opinion the insect areas of WoW are by far the least interesting and I’m not really keen on seeing two raid instances filled with them. Also the art content that’s going in (the new stuff in AQ and the old BWL armour sets) also looks rather silly. The overly stylized and large weapons and armours just don’t appeal to me.
edit: Also, if it’s possible, AQ will probably be openned on day one. If not, it’ll be probably be openned the very first day Blizzard allows it.
I would not put absolute faith in CM to know what is going on. On one previous patch the CM insisted that on that day there would definitly NOT be any patch when someone else then responded that they were infact, patching to the new patch right then and there. Later on the CM admitted that blizzard doesn’t always tell them what is going on.
Anyway, tomorrow will end this speculation.

Eh, my entire guild is waiting for 1.9 to get active again.
BWL = 1 night clear = nobody online for 5 or so days.
Hmmm…looks like the Asher was wrong.
I do think that raid content deflates the interest of the non-raiders. I was excited about ZG, but the reality is that the lockout code discourages pickup groups so I’ve only done it a few times. I think insect raid land will be the same thing.
1.9 for me is new hunter pet abilities for pigs and wind serpents and the timbermaw faction rewards. That’s about it. I’ll try to do the insects raids but I doubt I’ll be able to.
Wrong about it being today? Please do not say it is so. 1.9 for me is a respec out of the shitty paladins spec I have. I do not want to pay 20 gold to redo it when ‘any day now’ it will be done for free.
normally if the patch was coming up today, there would be an “extended maintenance” notice in the WoW General Forum. As of right now, there is no such notice, ergo no patch today. Hopefully next Tuesday.

I can’t see them doing it next week, I don’t know about the States, but in Europe there are only 3 working days between Christmas and New Year and those businesses that open for those 3 days, with the exception of shops, operate with a skeleton staff.
My guess would be early January.
I would think they’d want it out before christmas in an attempt to keep as many customers as possible. I imagine christmas is the time for mass turnover, people coming and going. Keeping as many as they can seems like a no brainer and new content would have that effect. Letting people spend a week or two with their new toys/games they may just decide to not bother with WoW anymore. Then again this is Blizzard and they are notorious for being late with stuff.
I do not think they are going to lose any critical number of customers due to patch 1.9 coming out late. I do think they could lose new customers if patch 1.9 comes out and is botched, leaving little 12 year old Timmy crying because his sparkly new Christmas game won’t work.
Do we know it’s not coming out today?
I’d imagine they’d want to have the new patch out for the Christmas break, but I also think SlyFrog makes a good point – this is not the week you want to risk breaking the world. I don’t think they’d release it unless they felt pretty good about performance.
I don’t think they’re going to lose customers by not releasing the patch today. If you’ve sunk months into WoW, joined a raiding guild, beat BWL and have been waiting for Ankhiraj, you’re not going to quit over an extra week or two.
Realms are coming back up. No patch.
