WoW: The Movie

The War of the Ancients books are great. I’d love to see them take on that story.

Arthas is the one they’ll probably go with, though. It’s tragic and compelling.

… and it just happens to go with the theme of their most recent expansion pack.

It’s probably also the best move to stick to only one Warcraft “lead” story in hopes of generating as much name recognition as possible.

Er, yeah, but the movie’s years from actually coming out so I’m not sure it has anything to do with expansion pack promotion.

I’ve read the actual book. Most forced-into-background war ever.

I rather see a CGI movie done by Blizzard animation team then a half-assed live-action movie (see anything done by Uwe Boll).

How can any Warcraft movie be better than the World of Porncraft movie?

Not so dull and boring when played by Jack Nicolson…both of them!

Oh man…d0med?
Didn’t he also say they made Batman begins and Superman returns or godzilla comeback return begins or some other crappy failed movie?

Or Michael Bay, lets not forget the destroyer of worlds, canon and nostalgia.
I wouldn’t mind a CGI movie either…but about Starcraft, or if not, in the least Diablo.
Warcraft is just…dead.

Why do people keep feeding the village idiot?

Same here. If the movie was 90 minues of that CGI I would love it. Then again, that’s some expensive shit to produce … but when you are nearly printing money, why not.

There’s a lot more than just half an ass in any Uwe Boll production.

Uwe tried to get them to give him the rights, actually. They laughed him out of the building.

I wonder how many people actually are familiar with the WoW backstory. There’s a ton of people who’ve played the game, but I don’t think I or any of my casual friends could tell you much about the backstory besides naming a few key characters and locations. But maybe that doesn’t really matter. LotR was probably in a similar, if slightly bigger, boat.

There’s still no way I’d see the movie unless it got really good reviews.

I tried to read the lore on quests and I felt like I rather go back to school and do math homework.
Then I tried to play the game, but I felt like UO was better.

unbongwah> dead on for both counts.

I was so proud.

The lore is incomprehensible to me. Other than the “Orcs and their friends = Bad, Humans and their friends = good”. Granted, i didn’t play the RTS’s, and I assume those who did are more comfortable with the lore. But I tried making sense of the background story on the website when WoW started so I could appreciate it more. I even started a flow-chart of the plot until I realized I was being way too much of a dork (my old map-making days of Wizardry had temporarily surfaced). So I just look at WoW as a “go kill the enemies that your friends tell you to kill” game.

Now as someone who read LOTR as a kid in the 70’s, I totally get the LOTRO lore. Even the obsure stuff. So I can understand where some of the old Warcraft RTS players are with respect to WoW.

As far as a movie…Not for me. Even though I’ve played for years. Unless, as others have said, it’s 100% Blizzard CGI. Those just look too cool to pass up.

Except sometimes the Orcs aren’t bad - the demons are. Except for the big blue demons from outer space - those guys are good.

They can do a good <5 minute clip, no doubt. But I can’t really see a full-length Blizzard CGI movie being all that much better than Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within.

Yeah, I’m all onto peace and everything and kudos on the nice attempt at an outside the box plot and criticizing the bad nature of humans…but that movie really didn’t do it for me.

There’s really nothing in the lore that says that. In fact, the orcs are often painted as more “good” than the humans.

Guess you just made my point. The lore’s just a jumble of names and disconnected events to me, and I’m not interested in “studying” WoW lore at this point so that I’m fluent.

As I recall, I once knew that …Orcs were just misunderstood shamen who were mind-controlled into freaks by some wandering big guys who wandered around in space. And then those space guys starting fighting amongst themselves. Now WoW’s big update is one of those guys who found some sword but was hurled from space into a giant ice throne / castle thing. I forget how he’s related to the last big guy in the spooky castle west of Swamp of Sorrows, but he must be somehow…

Heh…maybe I do know the lore! But it doesn’t matter…like I said before, I just go kill whatever my guild and/or the friendly folks with the ! over their heads tell me to kill. Life is so much simpler and relaxing that way!
