Wtf: french doctors

Maybe if you see as many cocks and tits as a doctor, in any country, then you don’t have the sort of horror of perfectly natural body parts that you guys seem to have.

We see enough brains and guts spread across our television screens to immunise us against negative reaction, nudity of course is so much worse than killing people.

Yay, French Doctors.

I know people love to trot out the old “Americans love violence and hate sex” spiel, but there isn’t a whole lot of gore on television.

There it is. That’s the sort of generic McResponse I was waiting for.

They’re taking that hippocratic oath/ancient greek thing a little far…

I know it’s the French but those are just weird. What kind of things do they have in the teachers lounges?

The folks doing what is depicted? Benefits of rank!

I was under the impression that upper-body female nudity was just not that big of a deal in Europe and in particular France – for example it would not be that uncommon to see female breasts at a French beach. Not true?

It’s largely true. I lived in Paris for a few years and mainstream advertising often used images of topless women, TV programming is a little racier, beach nudity is common and there is less of a hang-up over casual depictions of nudity than in the UK or the US. Graphic depictions of sex acts however are still considered pornographic.

Nudity in general isn’t that big a deal in europe - at least not in the countries I’ve visited or lived in.

No matter how macgeneric you find the old “Violence is fine but nude bodies isn’t in the US” there seems to be some truth to it, when compared to the Old World.
That said, I havent been to the states, so I’m basing this on general attitudes of American television and forums like here compared to my own experiences in these countries.

For instance, is nude or upper chest nude sunbathing at beaches a big deal in the states? I assume it is, but can tell you that its done from age 15 or so here without anyone batting an eye.

France is awesome.

You could pretend all French women look like Melissa Theuriau.

Going topless is legal in NYC.

I don’t think the issue here is nudity in general, its the sex acts depicted. And I don’t know too many people that would be comfortable with nudes of themselves in the break room at work, let alone nudes of themselves engaged in sex acts with co-workers.

But if people want to chime in and declare they disagree with that, go ahead! ;-)

Sure, but I notice you don’t particularly agree that its something that happen regularly?

It should, though. It should.

Not correct in the uk. Our top selling daily newspaper The Sun has a topless woman on page 3 everyday. Topless on the beach all summer is normal as well. However below the waist less so unlike those murals, couldn’t see those going down well over here either.

It depends.

On the West Coast nudity is IIRC legal in San Francisco. I think female nudity above the waist (and definitely male and female nudity below the waist) is illegal just about everywhere else.

I know about page 3 but I’m talking about stuff that’s not hidden behind a front page. The Sun, The Sport and other red-top rags would never be able to feature explicit nudity (i.e. without masking nipples etc) on the cover. There was a breast cancer campaign with posters in Parisian bus-stops for example that featured a full frontal shot of a nude middle-aged lady from the waist up. In case you’d forgotten which part of the body breast cancer affected I guess. Likewise there was a perfume advert on a billboard at the end of my street that featured a fully nude girl lounging languorously with breasts exposed.
