X-Box Live Audio Issues

So last night I decided to try out one of the Live movie rentals (JLA:New Frontier). I use an HDMI cable (non-propriety, only one I could find long enough) to connect my elite to a 32" Lg LCD.

All downloaded fine, but when I tried to play the movie the sound cuts out, pictures fine but not a whisper of sound. At first I thought it was an issue with the video file, until I realised all the menu/game sound effects die until I reboot the console. I’ve fiddled with the audio settings as much as the XBox seems to let me, but to no avail.

I’d complain to microsoft but i have a sneaking suspicion they’ll blame my setup and their support site is an arse to navigate. Worst part is, now that i’ve tried to watch the video i have 24 hours to view it or my subscription is over. Could it be a problem with the cable? It works fine with everything else. Anyone else ever had issues like this?

Did you download the new update? There was an update released in the past few days that addressed HDMI sound issues.

I’d heard something about that update while trawling through google looking for a solution.

Wouldn’t it just start automatically like all the other updates though? Can’t remember whether one of those has flashed up in the last few days.

Let me know if i’m missing anything obvious about the update and thanks for the help.

No, it should’ve popped up…

But then again, where do you live? My friend in like, california, got it a week or so ago, and I just got it yesterday.

England, the patch has probably been delayed by all the snow.

Just now trying to lodge a complaint with MS before the 24hr limit is up.

I’m going to guess that its not been updated to European servers, I’ll check some sources.

Major Nelson said that its getting rolled out worldwide on the 2nd… I don’t know what to tell you but to try and shut down your xbox, unplug the ethernet, turn it on, turn it off, plug it back in, and then turn it on again.

Yeah probably. Either way it was a bad time to try the digital rental thing and my frustration at watching the beautiful animation without a hope of understanding what the hell’s going on breaks my heart. That’ll teach me to watch grown-up films in the future.
