X Rebirth does this already. I’m not convinced that it, or X4, will do this “well”, however.
I’m nervous about this. It’s a big challenge that might take some production iterations to get functioning adequately.
All that aside, I love the X series. From X:BtF through Albion Prelude. Amazing scope and freedom. I have no doubt that, eventually, X4 will be fantastic – a flawed, fantastic masterpiece.
There’s another video nearby with a 1 hour Q&A from their in-house show. Refreshingly low key and informative, basically just the studio boss answering question and explaining stuff in wider context, while alpha footage is shown in the background.
The VR version is based on the latest X3 version, but already uses their new Vulcan based graphics tech for X4. It’s handled as a completely new game, because they had to adapt things to the enormous requirements of a VR system, meaning they had to find performance, and a lot of it. So the gameplay experienced with a VR helmet on is supposedly quite different. When the game detects you have removed the VR, it switches back to normal mode.
They will offer some kind of upgrade or bundle deal for existing customers.
This photoset of what is presumably their announcement party popped up on my facebook timeline. Literally the only women in any of the photos are posters, cardboard cutouts or concept art. It’s possibly the worst gaming party ever.
Elite has a woman doing the NPC combat AI. The neckbeards on the forum treat her like some kind of domme goddess. It’s disgusting, pitiful, and fascinating in equal measure.
I get worried when they mention supporting so many things - especially stuff that’s almost never fun like flying capital ships - but except for Rebirth they always manage to make the game as a whole fun enough, so hopefully it will work out.
Gots do it,right, rebel galaxy is one way to do it, dreadnaught online game is another, world of warships a third, all these are fun. However giant supertanker , well maybe fun a little while, and then nope, automation was needed then, x games was all about that but 8n a bad way.
Regardless of whether the game is good, there is a 100% chance it will be full of bugs. Egosoft has never released anything that isn’t buggy as hell at launch. However, X3 and prior were fun despite the bugs, whereas Rebirth was a near-unplayable mess and only reached “mediocre” with patches.
I’m a long-time supporter of Egosoft, so I might actually pre-order this. That said, my PC is barely at the minimum requirements, so I have no idea what kind of experience I’ll have (or when). We’ll see.
