Xbox party games?

Sorry for spamming the board with another ‘best games’ thread.

I’m looking for party games for my new xbox. Something that will work really well with 4 persons and that anyone can pick up and play in a few minutes.
I tried looking at the earlier threads and the only two I could find so far:

Dance Dance Revolution (already ordered)
Fuzion Frenzy (the reviews were so-so, for how long is it -ahem- fun?)

Are those the only decent party titles out there?

Kung Fu Chaos (or whatever the name was) was quite entertaining when I played it at some friend’s place. Funny multiplayer brawl. Deathrow is great if you are a fan of fast (and violent) sports action like Speedball 1&2 or M.U.D.S.

There was an early Xbox Live title called Whacked! that was a sort of wacky party game in the form of a game show. I believe it was the last game Presto studios made before folding. It wasn’t going to help them, though, as it is thoroughly mediocre.

Fusion Frenzy is pretty fun as they have about a half dozen solid mini-games that never get old. It’s not Mario Party, but it is the best option on Xbox.

Sega Soccer Slam is also really fun for a group of people to pick up and play.

Hunter: The Reckoning Redeemer allows for up to four players onscreen (not split). It’s pretty fun if you just want some mindless monster-bashing with a few friends.

Midway Arcade Treasures: Gauntlet.

'Nuff said.

Haha Kung Fu Chaos is awesome, we played it at Chick’s during E3.

Top Spin is great just stay away from risk shots for the newbs. NHL Hitz 2003 is easy to pickup and lots of fun. Sega Soccer Slam is another easy one to pickup for basic play.

Thanks all.

I’ll look for those titles on my next trip to EB.

Halo with more than one Xbox and system link. That’s where the real Xbox party is at.

D&D Heroes is a good BG Dark Alliance style multiplayer romp.

Midway Arcade Treasures: Gauntlet.

'Nuff said.

Did they include four player support? I heard there was some doubt hovering over that. None of the reviews I’ve read mention it. If the collection ever makes it over here, I’m definitely getting it.

Kung Fu Chaos is the best party game evar, mainly for its jump-the-log mini-game. There’s a spinning log that goes faster and faster, and you have to jump over or deflect it in hopes of tripping up your friends. One by one, everyone gets knocked off. :-)

Hilarity ensues.

It sounds stupid, but it’s a lot of fun.

The xbox version supports four players, yes.

When it come to party games, the two are directly proportional. :D

Burnout 2 crash mode would make a good party game. You go in turns but everyone can watch and laugh as your car arcs and tumble through the air to cause gigantic pileups.

Burnout 2 Crash Mode drinking game would be unbelievable. Until the crashes started getting a little too funny. Like pee-peeing funny. But up to that point, fun.

First off, congratulations on the funniest thread title of the year. I almost fell out of my chair.

Seriously, at this point if you just bought a Gamecube and put it in the closet only to bring it out when you were having a party it would still be worth the investment. There are some games that will entertain people on the XBox, but when you compare that to a lineup like Super Monkey Ball, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Mario Kart, Bomberman Generations, Mario Party 4 and 5, and on and on, well, it just seems kind of silly. At least to me.

I’m not trying to troll here, the cost of the Cube and three extra controllers is more than worth the fun you can have with one of those little guys. Just saying you might want to consider it as an alternative.

Give it a rest, dude.

Mike, thanks for your answer, but what you are saying is the equivalent of an ER doctor telling the car crash victim how to use a brake.

Probably correct, but with questionable timing, and definitely not helping. :)

See, I already bought the xbox. It wasn’t easy to chose which console to buy, but after much deliberation xbox came out on top. Plus, my wife liked the xbox’s controls the best. :) The lack of good party titles was definitely on the minus side for the xbox, but I figured the scholars of Q23 could alleviate that problem somewhat.

I’ve got many good tips from this thread.
Top Spin was already on my ‘Wanted’-list, but Burnout 2 and Kung Fu Chaos, wouldn’t have been there if it wasn’t for this thread. Midway Arcade Treasures, D&D Heroes, and Hunter: The Reckoning Redeemer also sound like titles that could be of interest.

Two more questions:

  1. Does anyone know if there are any coming ‘party’ titles for the xbox?
  2. Where’s the best place to buy an extra mat for DDR? (if we like it as much as I hope we will, we’ll need another one)
