I wouldn’t say we have no idea what they’re going to cost. We have a general idea based on precedent alone that they’ll probably be in the $500-600 USD range. Maybe they’ll surprise us and go a little above or below, but if I were a betting man I’d go with that general price range.
Yeah, my educated guess would be:
Xbox Series X will cost the same as PS5, whatever that turns out to be.
Xbox Series S will cost $349.
PS5 will cost $549.
PS5 discless will cost $449

There’s no truth to this. Yes, Sony sent out emails to their customers letting them enter a lottery system for a preorder, but there’s nothing to suggest you won’t be able to preorder at the usual retailers (and frankly it would be very dumb of Sony to not allow retail preorders).

Ars Technica have a table showing how long we had to wait for date/price on other consoles.
Wow, the Switch price was announced only 50 days before release? I guess we’re likely still over 60 days out right now from release, so they haven’t cut it as close as the Switch yet.
I’ve got $800 set aside. I figure that will do.
Sony decided to double their planned production for the first 5 months of sales a couple months ago. They plan to have 10m units built by March. That’s way more than most launches.
Yeah, the direct preorder is an additional offering, not the only way to get it.

My prediction would be that going diskless will only get $50 knocked off the price. Unless there’s some crazy extra backward-compatibility hardware in the full version. And if so, cool!

The direct preorder is just a marketing scheme, making people feel special that they have “the honor” of buying a PS5.
I don’t care, if it means I don’t have to worry about competing for a general preorder later.
I’m going to buy one anyway and Sony seems to want to make it easier for me since I play their games a lot. Call it what you want to, but I appreciate it. How are those piss flavored corn flakes tasting?
This would be compelling for a lot of folks I know at this price.
WTF is that on the front? Looks like a cheap speaker.
This could be a big deal for many people.
You can only keep these kinds of things a secret for so long, especially if they’re months in manufacturing.
This is what happens when you play chicken for too long.
That would definitely be on the lower end of my price guesses, so hopefully that’s real!
Ventilation holes, I imagine. Feel that could have been done better.
It’s ugly, but at that price I will probably pick one up to replace the 360.
