XSX is enormous due to its cooling. Microsoft learned their lesson with the X360 and doesn’t cheap out on cooling these days. They want it to be quiet, so it’s a big papi.

SERIES S BELIEVED PRONE TO OVERHEATING. NEW RED RING GENERATION INBOUND

Microsoft winning. Adding EA Play to Xbox Game Pass is a very smart move. Great to have it for both Xbox and PC, which are separate $5 subscriptions currently.

Price and pre-order date announced for XSX.

Not sure EA play is seen as that desirable but it works for me… Starting this holiday season. I wonder when.

EA charged $5/month for that. Microsoft must be paying them at least two-fiddy.

Don’t know how I can emphasize more strongly how MS is not fucking around with game pass.

I think that’s their lower tier, with a 10 hour time limit on big games. Still worth having. It was $30 a year.

Last year, Game Pass had about 10 million monthly users. So let’s say EA gets $2.5 per month of that. $25 million a month, $300 million a year.

Probably a helluva lot more than what they got from EA Play.

I don’t see any time limitations, unless you mean the early access feature. It just has less brand-new games than EA play premium. But what it does have is NFS, FIFA20, NHL20, Madden20, and a metric ton of library games.

Oh wow, that’s awesome, especially as last time I looked EA Play was a separate sub on PC and Xbox, though it’s possible it’s changed.

I was looking at this:

I agree I don’t remember any limits when I did have a sub.

The 10 hour limit is for demos on new games. The Vault stuff, ie everything from last year or older, is unlimited.

Ahh, OK. Yeah, brand-new games don’t come with EA play base other than that trial period.

So at $30/year, figure MS is paying half that to EA. Again, that’s a lot of money.

Official site. This is the lowest tier of EA’s subscriptions on PC. Only tier on Xbox. It adds dozens of games on Xbox, some going back to the OG Xbox.

A lot of what makes game pass so incredibly sexy is the day 1 access to brand-new games, and that’s not what this is. This is a library deal. Still adds a ton of value.

Hopefully UPlay+ incoming :)

At the very least, it’s one fewer subscription to worry about, especially if you are or have been an EA Play/Access subscriber. People are big fans of more content and fewer subscriptions. Weird, I know.

Exactly. It’s basically money in my pocket for me. And also PC access to the EA library, which I didn’t have before.

“Hey casual gamers! For $25 a month you can play all Microsoft’s latest releases, dozens of other games, and even the big sports titles from EA - all in glorious HD! Join your friends online and play all the games they’re talking about.”

“Heya 30-something adult. Remember how much fun you had in college playing video games in the dorm? You can recapture that for just $25 a month - including games!”

“Hey 50-something adult! Do Bing searches for virtual pennies to get access to more games you will never play!”

Ubisoft just announced that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s launch date has shifted to match the Xbox launch of Nov 10th.
