Amazon has trade in values of xbox one X at $175 right now. Now I"m wondering if I should trade mine in and go PC till November

Is there a third Xbox Series box?

Eh… I’d really rather not have a million different consoles in the same generation, because it removes one of the key elements of console gaming which is that everyone is on the same level of hardware capability… which is nice when in competitive gaming.

But this seems to just be a digital version without a disk drive? That’s cool.

I guess it kinda makes sense to have:

Series S: $299
Series V: $399
Series X: $499

But highly doubtful that’s a product that launches in November or any time in the first six months.

Definitely makes sense going up against the diet PS5.

BC games on the S wont run in One X enhanced mode.

It still sounds better than the backwards compatibility on my plain Xbox One though:

“Xbox Series S was designed to be the most affordable next generation console and play next generation games at 1440P at 60fps. To deliver the highest quality backwards compatible experience consistent with the developer’s original intent, the Xbox Series S runs the Xbox One S version of backward compatible games while applying improved texture filtering, higher and more consistent frame rates, faster load times and Auto HDR.”

Auto HDR could be very cool, for instance. We haven’t heard much about that yet, except that they were working on it.

I think the Digital Foundry video assumed this would be the case since the 1X has more memory than the XSS

And ultimately who cares, because nobody uses backward compatibility anyway, am I right?

All the gotchas eventually add up to one big gotcha.

Don’t know if I’d call a non-4K console not doing the 4K enhanced mode stuff with BC games a “gotcha”.

“Edinburgh” is the codename for the server-blade variant of the Series X, not a digital Series X. This has been known for a while. Whoever made that “Series V” picture is just trolling, and it worked.

The XSS GPU is slower than the xboneX so that makes perfect sense to me.

Interesting. This stand is not removable.

I think a lot of it stems from the months of rumors about Lockhart being 4TF, but people reassuring themselves it will still be faster than the Xbox One X because it uses a much more modern GPU. The expectation was that it would be a upgrade over the One X in every facet. The RAM situation came as a surprise.

Anyone who thought that was not well informed, to say it charitably.

Seems odd. It cools from those corners?

It’s probably enough for intake. And then the holes at the top are the outgoing air probably.

Teraflop ratings across different architectures aren’t valid.

Bet it’s so that people can’t block the intake vent, by either removing or losing that disc. Definitely doesn’t help with the horizontal aesthetics though.
