This one makes them remember what soldiers they last used? Should be useful.

Haven’t tested these, will do so after I finish this mission.

Okay out of all those, 2nd is a must have. Much more useful when you level up.

If you want to go all in, there is this:

If you do, I recommend this alternative launcher:

So, I’m wondering if there was an update that I missed in the 2 years I didn’t play? The Chosen seem to show up a lot more. OTOH I have yet to get an Andromedon body for proximity mines and I’ve been playing for a while now.

350 non-conflicting mods? O-M-G!

Played a little of this (thanks to everyone for the advice) and was promptly reminded why I put it down. I don’t suppose there’s a mod for War of the Chosen that removes the two major features of War of the Chosen - namely the chosen and the new classes? I had mechanical issues with XCOM 2 but liked everything else about it. The mechanical issues are largely resolved in War of the Chosen, but the edgy anime villains and OP anime heroes make it, well, an XCOM-themed anime and I’m really not into that at all. I see that it’s really well done, it’s just not at all what I want from these games. I really wish they’d propagated the mechanical fixes and new options back to the base game.

Edit: Crap, and the zombies too. Yeah, this is still a non-solvable problem. The base game is mechanically problematic, the expansion is overstuffed with things I hate thematically. I think I’m just screwed. It’s not the game, it’s me.

I wouldn’t think you can get over the theme if you don’t like it. So no point in trying to sort what mechanics you’re struggling with.

The secret of XCOM 2 is that it IS an anime game, even without the Chosen. It just hides it up front. By the end of the game you are well and truly deep in anime territory, so if you hate that, I agree it isn’t for you.

I’m not crazy, the first remake wasn’t like that right?

No, I think it was much more standard sci-fi stuff.

Well, that at least helps me pin down why the sequel didn’t work for me despite many attempts to like it, so thanks for that.

Not your fault at all. They made a curious decision to play it straight at the start and then go that route. If anything, War of the Chosen fixes that by putting more weirdness in your face from early on.

It’s strange, when I think anime this doesn’t come to mind, Valk Chronicles does.

Valk is much more overtly so, certainly. There’s another game I really want to love but can’t seem to, now that you mention it.

Yep, I get where you’re coming from. I’ve just been lucky and managed to look past the wrapper and enjoyed the exceptionally chewy and delightful core game loops in both.

I am enjoying WOTC much much much more than the base XCOM 2 base game.

I had similar issues with Endless Legend - I hated the “endless winter” part of the game and stopped playing solely because of it.

I’m with you all about the cheesiness of the Chosen. While it makes sense that Bradford talks to you all the time – irritating though it might be – it makes no sense that these bosses are chattering in your ear, let alone are silly enough to think to intimidate you by puffing their chests. WotC lost me in that regard. Still, the gameplay is so fun, I don’t care that much. Games tend to be silly; I don’t expect them to ease my need to apply significant effort towards disbelief suspension.

I was looking through the workshop to find a way to shut the Chosen up. I found one that ended up not working. I recall seeing a mod for removing them from the game as well.

This one works fine. I mentioned it a few posts ago.

Yeah that’s the one I have. Not working.

They still talk, but way less than normal?
