Re the grenades and some other things–is it true that if one of your guys dies and you don’t extract the body, the stuff on them at the time is gone? I think I read that somewhere.
Be the answer to the last question as it may, has anyone noticed some new bugs introduced with the latest patch? I noticed that the “Expand Event Queue” button in the Avenger view doesn’t seem to work anymore.
EDIT: Never mind the question about the Controller config. I figured out I was using the left touch pad when it is in fact the right one.
The spending a month finishing the research tree, and training up the psi ops made the final battle much easier.
Overall I found the end quite satisfying. I definitely prefer Xcom 2 to Xcom:EU and while it isn’t as nearly as much as breakthru game as the original it is a very worthy modern sequel. Well done Firaxis.
I actually do want to try a second playthrough and probably will just up the difficulty level rather than use any mods.
Psi op are overpowered but it isn’t an easy path to get them online.
BTW last night I had an experience reminiscent of the old 90’s games, namely having to hunt down the last pod of aliens in a mission-- I had to destroy the comms relay before the time ran out, and was fighting a advanced mec and a couple of troopers, and when I managed to do that I thought that would be it, but no. Every aliens turn was just the weird noise and it would come back to my turn, never a hint of a direction to go in to find them. I finally had to start sending my people in the direction of the biggest unexplored area to get the last pod to activate (an Archon and two Mutons). The strange part is that it wasn’t even that far away from where the comms relay was–I figured it would have activated during the previous mini-battle–you’d think they would have been attracted by the racket. I wonder if the patch borked something there.

I often find there’s a final pod near the objective that doesn’t activate until the objective is reached because they happened to be placed out of LOS from the objective. I think they vector on the objective after that, hence they usually show up next turn. But if there’s a pathing issue, maybe they just hang out wherever they were placed. I think that’s happened a few times.
It is an amusing way to rack up some XP on troopers, but ultimately, no, they never run out of units to send at you, so sooner or later you’re going to have to position someone to take out the transmitter, at which point you’ve got a count down that kicks in leaving you only so much time to get back to the ship or it leaves w/o whoever isn’t aboard.

Yeah, I finally bit the bullet. When I got my guys back to the ship the counter said all of them were aboard but when I clicked on takeoff I kept getting the message that I was leaving somebody behind. Did that mean the dead troops? Ultimately I boosted anyway.
Don’t know about that message, I didn’t have anyone left so I didn’t see it, guess if you lost someone on the mission must be referring to them, but still odd it would be warning you about leaving someone behind that was dead, could it be they were just down but not dead?

No, I specifically checked for that. Just a bug I guess.
Regarding leaving someone behind, I think I’ve read that whatever equipment is on them is lost if you don’t recover the body.
I’m pretty sure that’s true. I’ve just never had the bad fortune to test that theory. I’ve always been able to extract everyone, including bodies, on missions requiring manual extraction.

I lost three rookies on that mission. You know, the ones they send out as reinforcements, also known as cannon fodder. So all I would have lost was generic equipment. But that would explain it.

Something I found. If you research predator armor, make sure that none of your troops are wearing rebel armor instead of kevlar. It doesn’t automatically upgrade. Went into a mission with most of my guys in kick-ass armor and my sniper in pajamas.
No doubt everyone realized this but me.

Quick question. I’ve realized I’ve gone a long way without doing any psionics (like I think I’m pretty close to the end of the game).
On the second to easiest difficultly level, is it reasonably feasible to win the game without psionics, or do I need to go down that path in order to avoid a lot of pain?
No need for psionics on Veteran. Just get some mindshields for the final mission.
That would make for an amusing achievement, winning a mission or perhaps even the entire campaign with no armor. Corollary I suppose would be same for weapons, winning late game mission with starter weapons or the entire campaign never upgrading past the starter guns.
I would not take either of those challenges btw, I have no trouble at all getting my guys killed off in spite of every advantage I can research and pay for…
I’m the kind of guy who might actually get something like this, but, ugh, the Mad Max vibe kills it for me. If it also changed everyone else in the resistance to the same style, including the folks in cutscenes, then maybe I’d consider it. Might be interesting to think of humans in the city centers living in a “normal” world while the rest of the planet is dystopian.

I think of my troops, after they have a few missions under their belt, as seasoned veterans. They get to wear whatever weird color combinations or props that they want. They earned it. But I’m still not buying that DLC. It’s too silly.
Played a bit last night if you guys want to either give me tips or make fun of me - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiaxCkeJT74 - I could certainly use the tips.
