I thought the preview with the newscaster was awesome! I watched it a dozen times, where they are like who are these people? Nevermind they are kicking alien arse! (gave me tingles)

Some enemies are definitely keyed to story events, but I’m not sure if they all are.

I think this just progresses on its own as the game goes on, just as in the original X-Com games. No matter what you do, the alien invasion marches forward with larger UFOs and more advanced alien types.

The movies are just plain fucking awful. The art direction is non-existent, the animation is piss-poor, the voice acting is phoned in, and overall they are insultingly boring.

You might think that would all add up to be so bad it’s good, but they just fall flat on their face right before that line is crossed.

And they take up 8 gigs of hard drive space to boot.

I wish they scrapped the movies and instead used the money saved to hire an artist and a writer to make a UFOpedia.

Why bother spending so much time and effort on such absolutely terrible movies? It adds nothing to the experience. Actually, I’d say it makes the experience worse.

It could be worse. The movies all stutter badly on my computer. Probably some obscure hardware/driver issue with Bink playback, despite having the latest Nvidia drivers.

So are the patch notes posted anywhere yet?

Oh yeah, mine stutter like crazy too. On a 660Ti with latest Nvidia drivers.

This times a thousand. I’m very curious as to what such a large patch does, except irritate the crap out of me, since even with a decent connection it will take longer than I have after work this particular evening to download, and I was so close to doing something really somewhat spoilery but potentially awesome. Dang it.

I hope it’s not just some useless localization files or something, not even really a patch. It’s so big I fear that’s exactly what it is, though.

Wow, you hated them. I kind of like them.

I liked the tuturial the first two run throughs, but not sure I want to go through it again. Oh, i played iron man classic for a few hours, tactical was fine for me- though some loses, but got creamed on the strategic map.

I actually kind of dig the souped up board game feel of the new game, just took a little adjusting. I got swamped once with a few floeaters, and big guys in one mission. I was never so tahnkful for grenades and rokcet launchers. The science lady wasnt happy, but i thought, gee to bad! Otherwise the teams coming home in body bags!

There is a brand new Readme in Polish!

Also, the EXE got updated as well as all of the art assets.

What does the little green chevron that occasionally appears next to your guys’ health mean?

I believe that indicates he has a buff of some kind. Not sure where to view what it is though.

Various visibility/hiding optimizations
Multiplayer text chat support (press J to activate)
Mouse button 4/5 will switch soldiers in the Barracks
ESC hides the movement grid, if you do not want to commit to a move while it is activated
Squad Sight ability optimization
Fixed issue when equipping two grenades with Deep Pockets.
Fixed Rapid Fire sometimes consuming too much ammo.
SHIVs that are damaged will no longer become unusable.
Fixed some hangs/soft crashes in tactical combat.
Replaced software cursor with the operating system cursor to reduce lag and framerate dependence.
Fixed rendering bug which causes some soldier’s hair to appear as if it is rendering on top of environment fog.
1080p movies are now used at all times on the PC.

Thank god for the Mouse 4/5. I hope they didn’t nerf Squad Sight.

Also, they need a PC option to map the game to different monitors, especially in fullscreen mode.

You are correct. You can highlight a unit and press F1 or click the ? button in the lower left above the units rank icon to get details. Red chevrons indicate debuffs, such as poison.

Does this mean we’re getting a white arrow pointer? I already had this fixed in the .ini.

1080p movies are now used at all times on the PC.
Don’t forget there’s an .ini tweak to disable intro movies. Steam will replace the ones you’ve renamed, so the .ini is a better long term solution.

Gave up on my first Classic game. I can’t bring myself to lower it to Normal, although I did elect NOT to do ironman this time around.

I am playing on the PC with a 360 controller. If you push in LS, it will list the buffs, debuffs, and the skills of that soldier. I do not know what the keyboard command is.

A few people in the Xcom: Combat Mechanics thread say it is F1.

DAMMIT I hate Cryssalids.

Clearly, those complaining about small maps have not investigated a Battleship yet…
