Anyone else running out of things to research but basically being unable to touch anything in the foundry? I find the prices are totally off considering that you don’t have any way to make sure you’re earning enough resources.
I’ve been chronically short on alloys since very early in my game - even capturing VERY BIG UFOs gives a pitiful amount of alloys considering how much you have to expend for … basically everything.
I find myself having to constantly shuffle what little in armors and weapons I have between my available troopers since I can’t even manufacture enough laser weaponry, let alone good armor for everyone.
Maybe there’ll be a final phase in the game where I can complete the foundry stuff, but I don’t see that happening. I have done 50% more missions already than they said a typical game will take (about 30).
I’m currently …
Spoiler
…in the stage of the game where I have built the Hyperwave Scanner. The UFO I was supposed to shoot down spawned in an area in which I had no interceptor, so I’m waiting for another one.

I was in a similar situation but got lucky with a landed (not crashed) UFO mission. The intact UFO and trying very hard not to damage it yielded many more alloys. Still not enough for long term, but enough to get me through some critical foundry projects and sufficiently supplied with armor and guns.
The big take-away from my first my first game so far is to build / expand satellites as much as possible or you,ll never keep up.

Do UFO’s ever crash anywhere other than a swamp?
Game is fun, but it is no apocalypse by any means.
I have noticed that when I hover my cursor over the little red alien icons in the corner, the chance to hit is not always the same as that shown when I use firing mode. Just now the icon showed an 89% chance to hit, whereas in firing mode it was reported as 57%. I’ve also seen a chance to hit on a chrysalid that didn’t seem to match the stat breakdown. Usually it’s the same though, which makes me wonder if I’m overlooking something or not.
Doing well in my latest Classic game. I’m playing manually enforced ironman, which is pretty much what I did with the original. What’s worrying me is that I haven’t lost anyone in the last 6 missions, including my first terror mission where the very first Alien Activity resulted in a chrysalid rushing right up into melee range on my mostly highly decorated heavy who had a 15% chance to hit it! Fortunately my assault guy blasted him with a shotgun and my sniper finished him off.
This can’t last, I’m expecting a full wipe anytime now! Actually I’m most worried about the strategic side of things. I barely have enough money for anything, not enough alloys, the usual stuff everyone is having trouble with. As it’s my first playthrough getting further than mid-April, I have no idea whether this is just balanced on a knife edge or whether I have done things horribly, horribly wrong. I fell into the “can’t build an access lift because I don’t have enough power” trap (seriously, that needs a warning) and had to cancel a workshop that was 8 days into construction. Fortunately you get the money back, but not the time.

Has anyone figured out good strategies for protecting against enemy grenades? I feel like I have a good handle on how to try and protect myself against enemy fire, but grenades screw me every time.
I finished it! (Normal.) Ending was meh.

My Normal Ironman game appears to be borked. I’ve got a UFO-type doorway that I’ve sent my Shiv through. The other troops are stuck on the other side. No movement orders allow my troops on my side to get to the other side. The Shiv is able to move normally on the other side. My troops can shoot through the doorway, but can’t step through it. I’ve tried blasting the doorway with a Rocket to see if that cleared it, but it won’t.
The Shiv is now dead. I know there’s one last alien on the other side (possibly more, but at least one). I still can’t send any troops through the door. Any ideas? I’m mostly just hitting overwatch over and over and hoping the alien decides to come visit me.
I tried exiting and reloading, but the doorway is still non-functional.
Okay, minor Spoiler below. Also why the heck is my spoiler tag not working? [Spoiler fixed thanks to Murbella]
Where this was
This is the assault on the enemy base, so I really don’t want to go back to the sky ranger and abort. I suspect the only thing left is a Sectoid Commander.

that level for me
For me, there was a corridor with a big door near the end of that level that leads to a more open room with an elevated platform in the middle of it with ramps leading up to it near the door you came in. At the far end of the room was the alien commander. most of the level is pretty corridor’y and this was the first wide open’ish room i remember there.

I have to say this is a good thing imo.
Hmm.
There is a shockingly high 0.0252% chance of that happening in a truly random environment.
It really isn’t.
I do personally like the added soldier customization/skills, but not enough to give up everything else that apocalypse does better.
Please elaborate on this.
I played every all the Xcom games around the times they came out. I even remember going to some computer trade show (back when those were a thing in the 90’s) and getting a copy of Apocalypse before it was technically on shelves anywhere else. Even then though, as hungry as I was for another Xcom game at 16 years old or however I was, it felt weird. I don’t think it’s an awful game, but it was definitely the black sheep of the first three in the series. And the new one is outstanding in nearly every way. So I’m honestly curious how you can compare Apocalypse in all of its half broken old school-ness to one of the best PC games I’ve played in years.
Argh… Just ran into a variant of the same stuck door bug on the assault. Door before last room is narrow. I opened it carefully and stood guys on either side in cover to take pot shots into the room until clear enough to dive in. Guess having it open without going through hoses it because now nobody can advance beyond the threshold. Reloaded from save and same thing. Looks like time to restart a long mission.
Great game but could use a few bug fixes.

Good, didn’t like Apocalypse anyway.

On the old XCOM, I would pack myself a lot of explosives, destroy any protection, make new “windows” in building walls with explosives, then snipe anything in the map. But on this XCOM I don’t know, the squad seems to have a very limited inventory.
Perhaps have snipers climb to high heights, and have everybody hide behind complete protection.
Just got hit by a gamestopping bug. Whenever I enter a tactical map it seems I spawn outside the playable area. Even skipping a mission and taking the next one results in the same issue on a diffferent map.
By moving the mouse around I can see the red map borders and the angle indicates I am outside of it. My soldiers are invisible and there is no visible skyranger eather. Was my first classic campaign too and I was doing well enough. sigh Really no point to ironman it with bugs like this in place.

Apocaypse feels like you are controlling a group of soldiers moving through a building. The tactics you can use flow organically from the weapons and defences you and the aliens possess. (Note - this is playing it real time with pause, turn based doesn’t really work I hear).
The new one feels like you are playing an elaborate game to make use of your special abilities in an optimal way. It’s great, but in a different way. You are constantly reminded that what you are interacting with is an extremely abstracted model.
Anyone run into an issue where you have no soldiers capable of using the Gallop device? Six of my 18 soldiers, all trained up in Psi ranks, but none of them can use it. WTF?
Kind of hard to complete the game this way. Did a search but can’t find an answer. Found one person asking the same question, but that’s it.
