So I cleared the alien base with just default equipment. But I had to reload twice because I kind of have Fire Emblem syndrome in that I can’t let ANYONE die…

These Crystalid dudes are pretty tough but I made heavy use of overwatch and simply let them come.

After the mission the engineering guy tells me that the aliens will surely step up their game now… d’oh!

Sorry if this is addressed elsewhere in the thread:

Does anyone know if I can just delete the cutscene files? It is ridiculous that 8.7GB of my hard drive is being eaten up by these (especially since it’s both 720p and 1080p), and I need to make some space. I’m hoping it will just skip the scenes and go straight to the next interface bit rather than crashing. I guess I could just try it, but I thought someone might know.

I’ve definitely been considering removing it from my PC now that I have the iPad version because yeah, 8.7 GB is a bit much… It’s not as crazy as Total War, but still…

Firaxis games tend to preserve the same random seed. If you do something else before taking the shot, I bet you’ll get a different result.

The game’s OK, although I’m sure others have already talked about the need for random, larger maps, more players, the ability to drop and use weapons, action points which allow for more flexibility, etc.

I was skeptical at first, but I’m happy with 6 max soldiers and the actions thus far. I’m actually fine with the map sizes as well…seems to keep it less tedious. I would like some weapon/item swapping though (and maybe 1 extra item per soldier)!

Also, you are correct Tim! I found that altering a move changes the course of seed-saving actions.

I don’t think there’s a “need” for most of the things he’s talking about except random maps, or at least more map variety. The map sizes are definitely large enough as-is. I don’t want the bug-hunts through the bigger ships to take even longer.

I agree, random maps with more map variety and I would still be playing.

More maps is the only DLC I would ever consider buying. I’ve never bought DLC in my life, but there, I would pay.

Agreed. I’m finding the later maps already bordering on tedious.

From what I read in other boards, the things “needed” are very helpful as they lead to greater variety and complexity, and not just random maps and even weapon swaps but action points. Then again, these are seen in the earlier game and likely new ones like Xenonauts, but these probably play better on desktop computers than on consoles.

Finished this today. Overall good game but I had to consult a FAQ at the end because I didn’t get that your PSI soldier must wear a PSI Armor to be able to use the Gollop chamber. Kinda strange this one. I first thought you have to level up your PSI soldier to maximum, could have finished the game at least 20 game days earlier if I had known but whatever.

Yeah, the Gollop Chamber requirement is weird. The game makes it sound like you need high Will, but you can put the Psi Armor on your worst Talent and he can still use it.

This is the best game of the steam summer sale. Having a blast, even though my soldiers keep dying.

But doesn’t it still make a difference if your guys with psi talent are still at relatively low rank? I had the misfortune that none of my badass guys turned out to have psi ability at all.

Nope, you can still activate it. Not that you want to go to the Temple ship with a weak soldier, and the guy who activates the chamber must go.

Putting on the armor makes your guy a pretty badass psionic, giving them new abilities that are quite strong. I’d imagine having higher psi probably helps them, but in my opinion, if you have reached this point without already grooming someone to be a decent psionic, i wouldn’t bother spending real life days trying to force one. I did this for a while trying to replace my entire team with high will psionics, but gave up in the end.

I got somewhat lucky in that i quickly got a support who was a psi with high will. Then when i got the suit i just made him do it since i could keep my heavy hitters in better armor and then the support could use his new psi nuke from the back in a supporting role.

Just finished the game. As someone who played the original a dozen times and was hesitant to try this new iteration due to perceived console dumb-down, I really enjoyed the experience (though it ended somewhat anticlimactically for me) and will likely play it many more times.

I never played the original but I just finished this off this weekend in three days buying it from the Steam sale. I did enjoy it but maps got tedious towards the end. Overall I enjoyed it and wished I played it earlier but I didn’t know what to really expect out of it.
