Or so very right.

I’m not the first to report this kind of unbalance. this exp needs a patch and quickly.

lol

How dare they release the game in such a sorry state!

before acting as a smartass you should read the last few pages and not just the last post.

You mean this gem?

Or this one?

No, I think I’ll stick to my smart ass comment thanks. :)

Has anyone noticed an imbalance in classes? After 17 rookies getting promoted, I have had 10 snipers, 5 heavy, 1 assault and 1 support.

smart guy. now I guess you want an applause?

Don’t mind sepiche - he just needs to justify his nonpurchase. Those enjoying the expansion are just uninformed sheep I guess.

I’m confused as to why not being able to change a rather large, game altering setting like Second Wave while the game is being played is considered bad. That sounds perfectly reasonable, to be honest.

first, you can change the difficulty setting, which I guess is at least as “large and game altering” as the second wave stuff. second, why add the screen if you can’t change anything? third, the main problem here is that the second wave options are either bugged (not recognizing EU saves) or they suffer from a very bad design decision (are they assuming people have already replayed the game before the expansion?)

also, I’m experiencing CTDs (already two in less than a couple hours; had no problems with EU) and a weird freeze lasting a few seconds whenever I launch a grenade. so yeah, I think this needs a patch, thank you very much.

I was sort of wondering what that option was for. Do you not see how much each country is worth until you put up a satellite in it or something? Otherwise it seems like a purely cosmetic distinction.

It’s not cosmetic since there are balance issues as far as income vs. continent benefits. If the two South American countries get a huge income boost, that makes South America ridiculously rewarding. And conversely you might find that the 4-country continents that are work to get low income. Since I assume that the standard income values have a balance purpose, it seems like something you wouldn’t want to randomize.

From what I saw, it randomizes the base value per country that they are worth, this in turn affects your monthly average and your starting funds. So when you are finished the first mission and head back to base, you’ll see exactly what your starting credits are and monthly total.

To give you guys an example, last night I started a game where I began with 268 credits. Then I restarted and the next game I had a value of 168.

Yeah, no kidding. Get that dude out of there. He’s spoiling a beautiful thing.

I mean, anecdotally, in my game out of 15 guys I have 1 support, 2 assault, 2 snipers, and the rest heavies. At least you’re overloaded on the best class.

I think there’s no balance at all, it’s just a straight 25% chance. IMO that’s a mistake they should weight the odds towards classes you’re short in, but on the other hand especially with the covert ops thing there’s a real decision to make there. You want your covert ops person to be a sniper for gunslinger, but only one of my snipers has leveled up that far so when I send her on that mission my killing power goes down dramatically.

Eh.

At least so far, from reading review and impressions by other people, it seems that Firaxis has read everyone’s complaints about how the difficulty spike between Normal(too easy) and Classic(very unforgiving) and made Normal even easier, Classic a little bit harder? Bizarre.

I do appreciate the "where in the world is Carmen Sandiego minigame of finding the EXALT base, but oh my God this game is still unnecessarily obtuse at nearly every level.

It’s still impossible to learn what the stats/impact of a given foundry upgrade/weapon will have until you actually build it(and even then, for like the global upgrades e.g. ammo conservation or the MEC armor buff, you gotta just work that shit out by yourself), you can’t see how many of a given weapon you have in your inventory until you research that weapon type, etc. But new to this expansion is a brand new and very significant underexplained thing: I have no idea what I’m looking for this EXALT base for!

I don’t know what will happen after I press the “j’accuse” button. If I"m right and that country has the base… Maybe a mission to attack them? OK but what will that give me? Much much worse, though, and this is like a legitimate and objectively poor game design choice, what if I’m wrong? As a player I cannot meaningfully gamble on that decision without knowing the stakes. Otherwise it’s just clicking buttons.

I was just listening to the 3MA podcast where they discussed XCom:EU with the lead designer (Jake Solomon), and he specifically addressed this point.
https://www.idlethumbs.net/3ma/episodes/we-will-be-watching-commander (FYI This is back from October 2012)
Rob asked about the class distribution algorithms because he was seeing some issues with it in the pre-release build of EU, and Solomon said that the game is supposed to use some sort of weighting factor that should bias your rookies towards your underrepresented classes…
But maybe something changed in EW?

Like. Phhhh, they broke it! Seriously I have 7 freaking Snipers and 7 Assault personal. Mo Support and no Heavy. This is super stupid.

If you click the button it pops up a confirmation that says if you are wrong, you will raise panic in all the neighboring areas.

at least I finally got the “flight of the valkyrie” achivement.

No need to thank me. Just doing my civic duty.
