Gamification is using game design to make otherwise mundane tasks fun. Imagine you're a worker in a warehouse and you have to pick and sort an endless list of packages into bins and you have to do it really quickly. All day..
Oh man, this totally brought back memories of a movie I saw on HBO many years ago, Electric Dreams! It starred Virginia Madsen and that creepy shut-in from season two of Twin Peaks, or CSIFSTOTP for short. I guess that’s not really short. Anyway IMDB tells me his name is name is Lenny von Dohlen, so let’s go with that.
So the movie is a rom-com, Lenny falls in love with Virginia, I mean who wouldn’t right? But his computer also falls in love with her! And Virginia is a concert cellist so Lenny uses the computer to write her a song and he and the computer kind of vie for her affections. It’s lightweight but pretty cute. Now I kind of want to see it again.
Oh and gamification of warehouse jobs is kind of weird.
