California allowed galvanized steel for supply water? That’s quite irresponsible. The rust issues alone are a killer. Zinc toxicity is another matter.

I believe galvanized was required by code here up until pretty recently. I think the code has only changed in the last 5 years or so. Based on the post below, I must be remembering the change from copper to plastic.

Tell me about it. Houses built after 1980 use copper pipe, but my house was built in 1969. And yes the rust issues are killer, which is why I wanted a filter that would get rid of lead.
The pipes go bad all the time too. My son was sleeping and all of a sudden he was dreaming that he was sleeping outside in the rain. A pipe had burst and the water came through the ceiling fan, doing a great job of sprinkling his bed, just like rain. If it didn’t cost so much to fix, it would have been even funnier.
Minneapolis has great tap water. Except for a few days every couple of years where things get inexplicably yucky because of chemistry chemistry Mississippi river.
