You'll be fighting alone in Space Pirates and Zombies 2

Multiplayer will not be coming to Space Pirates and Zombies 2. While a full cooperative multiplayer mode wasn’t planned for the early access space ship mercenary zombie invasion action game, MinMax Games had planned to add a multiplayer arena mode. Alas, it seems the developers were unable to overcome the technical challenges as they moved the project onto an updated version of the Unity engine. The network issues coupled with a lack of interest from fans on their forums, means multiplayer is dead. It’s a blow for the sequel to one of Tom’s favorite zombie games, although it’s unclear if the arena mode would’ve added anything substantive to the gameplay.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at http://www.quartertothree.com/fp/2017/02/22/youll-fighting-alone-space-pirates-zombies-2/

Nah, it’s not a blow at all, single player rules.

Sums it up nicely.

I don’t understand who wanted MP in this game. Seems like an insane distraction from what made the first game great -story and events.

There are people who want MP in every game buddy. We call those people morons.

LOLOLOL. I could hug you :)

Great question. From my reading, there was apparently a vocal sector of fans that really wanted MP co-op for the sequel. MinMax early on ruled that out as the complexity it would add to the sequel was just to much. Their compromise was an MP arena mode (maybe a co-op horde mode? or versus deathmatch in an arena? I couldn’t figure out what it was supposed to be) that no one seemed to be too jazzed about.

I’m glad they’ve dropped it, but it does suck that they used 4 weeks of time and resources working on it.

I dunno, while I’m glad they made the attempt – because I’m not as vehemently anti-multiplayer as I once was – I’m glad they took the time needed to come to, what I feel, is the right conclusion, rather than half-assing it like so many seem to.

Unlike you puss-covered troglodytes, some of us have friends.

Yeah, I for one would have enjoyed coop, but the proposed arena modes had zero appeal to me (it didn’t sound like it had much interest in the community either). Multiplayer for the sake of a marketing bullet point never turns out well, and that’s what this felt like. I’m not sad to see it dropped.

Hey stop being racist towards my people. Our oozing skin sores should not enter into this conversation.

LOLOL

I would have liked either coop or vs, but in the end SPaZ2 bounced off me anyway because it was so different from the first and didn’t feel like a good change to me.

Who needs friends when you have games? ;)

Yeah this. I loved SPAZ, but the sequel has not clicked with me at all.

¿por que no los dos? :D

If this means the single-player portion can get more attention and the game be released quicker, then I’m all for it. I’m dying to play it.

I read that as pussy covered troglodytes…hardly an insult:P.

I don’t think I’d ever heard of this game. Now…I am mightily tempted…

I actually like SPAZ2 more than the first one, although it sounds like there’s others in the thread that feel differently. The game didn’t grab me during the initial Early Access release, but when I went back to play version 0.8.4 I had a really good time. I’ve only held off playing more because I’m trying to wait for 1.0.

It may be late to the party, but got this game for XMax.
I played the older title, that I loved.
Heres my opinion to this version:
I don’t think the change to 3D was favorable, much of the action was still 2D-ish. Except sniping, so it allowed a wider range of strategy, using railguns-like weapons to manually destroy enemy ships weapons parts. Is a tactics game, so more tactic options is good.
The graphics are… a detriment to the game, they are chaotic and make hard to tell from the pieces the function. The game could have benefic from a more space-porn induced art. Not necesarily for the zombies ships, these where fine. Not need to drop the whole festive theme of SPAZ, but was too much chaos.
The idea to use a 3D UI to create the ships is terrible. Specially when theres like 90 pieces of scrap parts from nowhere mixed with the usefull parts. Like many parts of SPAZ2, is detrimental to what is essentially a good game.
Because is a good game, I had a lot of fun with many battles, I lost many battles repeating the battles with different strategies. I changed my ship design many times to beat challenges. Sometimes finding a design so good I was steamrolling until I was not. Some enemies made me run for my life, until I accumulated enough chip damage to destroy them. I lost great captains to the combine fire or a miriad of small infected ships.
And then the game ends. Theres some sort of final rush in the ending, but is all a bit abrupt. Like “and then they all lived happyness”. The ending could be summed has 16 seconds of San Francisco fireworks.

I know this is a old game from 2017 and never received good feedback from users or the journalist. Is not quite the type of strategy the strategy fans demand, or the type of tactics the tactics fans demand, or the type of space simulation, or the type of 4x. Is a odd game with a unique taste that his only fault is that is not the taste of these groups.

I said SPAZ2 is a good game but there are parts that made me uninstall once I finished it and I don’t plan a second run.
SPAZ 1 had for it the surprise and a story with may twist and mystery that SPAZ 2 did not had, nor did build other.
SPAZ 2 “open world” activities are the same rotten ones from SPAZ 1. And inside battlefields… I think theres even less to do, not farming other than some crates in some bases concentrated in these bases.
SPAZ 2 could have been more like a Mount & Blade in space with a small flotilla of ships. It has a bit of that (arenas) but really lacks more meat in these bones.

If theres any game like SPAZ again, please tell me, I am interested :D
