Your pre-release wall of shame

Not included:

Cinemaware Wings Remastered
Tiny Trek
Rain World
Towns
Kerbal Space Program

So far, the only two I really regret are Gnomoria and Towns, since I went through a “DF is neat” phase and am now a “DF is a tiresome exercise in OCD” phase.
I bought in to SpaceBase DF-9 WAY too early. And Starpoint Gemini, for that matter. (Thanks, BRIAN!)
I’m waiting on Prison Architect to be finished, but Introversion has made good progress.

What’s on your list?

7 Days to Die - Probably the best work-in-progress game I have. The devs push out an update almost every weekend. The game has visibly and mechanically changed a lot. I enjoy experiencing the evolution of the game.

DayZ - “Fun” for about a day, then the lack of anything to do really gets to you. Super clunky, buggy, (hybrid Take On Helicopters/Arma 3 engine) and the devs seem to be going in a million directions at once. I guess it’s good for watching other people play on Twitch. Pass.

Prison Architect - I love the concept and presentation, and I really like the dev videos, but I just can’t get into it. Everything being on one plane really hurts this game. Modern prisons have multiple stories for a reason.

BroForce - Really good. These guys had a really well-defined design vision and they’ve held to it so far.

Door Kickers - Almost ready to launch. Lacks only some singleplayer campaign stuff and some RPG progression content that the devs say they’re working on. The core game (2D tactical squad pause-'n-go strategy) is really tight. I’m really looking forward to the 1.0 release.

Project Zomboid - Got it in some bundle. I’m really not impressed with this one at all.

Rebuild - I don’t even know what’s going on with this title.

Planetary Annihilation - I guess this is launching soon and coming out of beta or gamma or whatever they call it. The devs seem to have hit all the marks they promised. I’m just not a fan of the gameplay. Oh well.

I don’t do a lot of pre-releases, but two that stand-out:

Gnomoria: Game doesn’t seem to be getting more compelling and I feel like I’d just boot up DF if I got a DF-like itch (unlikely).

Starbound: Was riding high from Terraria and excited by the prospect of Terraria-in-Space. Development seems to be totally spinning its wheels though. They need to tell their whole community to shut up and just make the game they want to make.

Don’t Starve - I bought this game so long ago and played it so much that since it’s release, I’ve barely touched it.

Project Zomboid - Bought this on Desura a while back and then migrated it over to Steam when keys were made available. I have not re-installed it but probably will some day.

I am this close to trying out Frozen State but haven’t pulled the trigger just yet.

The Long Dark will be an immediate purchase once it’s made available on Steam in a month or so.

Broforce is early access??

DF-DEFENSE FORCE!

Hey, it should be the opposite of a tiresome exercise in ADD considering you should have most things automated.

I try to avoid early release stuff but have still ended up with a few.

Endless Legend
Dungeon of the Endless
Starbound
Planetary Annihilation
Offworld Trading Company

Barely played any of them, since I wait for release for that sort of thing, but I did really enjoy what I played of Starbound and Dungeon of the Endless.

Galactic Civilizations III
Rebuild:Gangs of Deadsville
Invisible, Inc.
Sunless Sea
Ultimate General:Gettysburg
Buzz Aldrin’s Space Program Manager
Kerbal Space Program
Making History:The Great War
Star Ruler 2
Plague Inc. Evolved
Endless Legend
Dungeons of the Endless
Legends of Isenwald

Not to mention the two games I’m officially beta testing: Sovereignty and The Witcher Board Game

And that, dear friends, is why I’m trying to wean myself off of Early Access

7 Days to Die
Assetto Corsa
Craft The World
Elite Dangerous
Gnomoria
Grim Dawn
Kerbal Space Program
Paragon
Planet Explorers
Prison Architect
Project Zomboid
Starbound
Starpoint Gemini 2
Sunless Sea
Under the Ocean

Can’t say I’m too unhappy with any of these purchases but I will be happier when at least one of them hits release!

Does Skullgirls count? :U

I have a few early-access things I’ve gotten keys for over the years (either from bundles I bought for other things or from friends giving away random keys), but I haven’t installed any of them. In general, I’m not interested in playing things before they’re finished and fully released, especially since I already have too many things to play now.

I keep early access developers in business!

Steam says its still in early access, so I updated my list. :p

I have quite the healthy list of un-released games. A couple are betas, and not really early access, but I keep them all in a separate folder, so here it is:

Salvation Prophecy
Age of Decadence
Castle Story
Folk Tale
Dungeon Dashers
Starforge Alpha
Nuclear Throne
War for the Overworld
Starbound
Rim World
Antisquad
Steam Bandits
Landmark
Hex
Prison Architect
Steam Marines
Kenshi
Fight the Dragon
Jagged Alliance Flashback
Godus
Spacebase DF9
The Forest
Dungeonmans
Darkout
Legends of Eisenwald
Craft the World
Grim Dawn
Edge of Space
Planet Explorers
Arche Age
Ziggurat
Clockwork Empires
Hand of Fate
The Escapists
Adventure Manager
The Golf Club
(just released I believe)

I feel better now.

I have lots, though my propensity these days to spend on anything early-access is greatly reduced. I tend to just wishlist it now, unless there is reports of something quite solid there already and it is getting good buzz.

Starbound
Elite Dangerous
Gnomoria
Towns
Project Zomboid
Kerbal Space Program
Sunless Sea
Assetto Corsa
Craft the World
Grim Dawn
Clockwork Empires
Project Eternity
Wasteland 2
Unwritten: That Which Happened
Torment: Tides of Numenera
Stonehearth
Double Fine Adventure
Stasis
Chaos Reborn
Paradise Lost
Cube World
Crypt of the Necrodancer

There are probably others…

Currently:
GalCiv3
Yatagarasu

too many to count of others in the past

If my time spent on Craft the World counts, I’ve gotten about 4 games worth out of money spent on that one already.

I think these are all pre-releases (in one form or another, kickstarter, etc):

Endless Space
Endless Legend
Dungeon of the Endless
Galactic Civilization 3
Elemental
Hex
Horizon
Prison Architect
