20 Things You Have to Believe to Be a Republican Today

Yes, that’s much better. See, I told you I suck at this.

A beer doesn’t get jealous when you have another beer.

Yeah, I’ve seen this one. Apparently when Republicans spend money it magically disappears. Democrats avoid this by giving the money away so it remains existant!

So do I get a score, or what?

  1. You have to believe the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of funding.

  2. You have to be against capital punishment, but for abortion on demand, in short you support protecting the guilty and killing the innocent.

  3. You have to believe that the same public school teacher who can’t teach 4th graders how to read is qualified to teach those same kids about sex.

  4. You have to believe that trial lawyers are selfless heroes and doctors are overpaid.

  5. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding Americans are more of a threat than nuclear weapons in the hands of the Red Chinese.

  6. You have to believe that global temperatures is not affected by cyclical, documented changes in the Sun, but is really affected by SUVs.

  7. You have to believe that gender roles are artificial but being gay is natural.

8)You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity.

  1. You have to believe that hunters don’t care about nature but animal rights activists who’ve never been outside Seattle do.

  2. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.

  3. You have to believe there was no art before federal funding.

  4. You have to believe the military, not corrupt politicians start all wars.

  5. You have to believe the free market that gives us 500+ channels of entertainment can’t deliver the quality that PBS does.

  6. You have to believe the NRA is evil, because it stands up for the Constitution, while the ACLU is good, because they attempt to create a new Constitution out of thin air.

  7. You have to believe that taxes are too low but ATM fees are too high.

  8. You have to believe that Harriet Tubman, Cesar Chavez and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Dolly Madison or Thomas Edison.

  9. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides aren’t.

  10. You have to believe that second-hand smoke is more dangerous than HIV.

  11. You have to believe Hilary Clinton is really a lady and Rosie O’Donnell is really funny.

  12. You have to believe that conservatives are racists, but that black people couldn’t make it without your help.

  13. You have to believe the only reason socialism hasn’t worked anywhere it’s been tried is because the right people haven’t been in charge.

Ain’t google grand…

34 posts is pretty n00b to have such a large target painted on your chest, Rotor. And to willingly don it, that takes cahones. So who’ll take the lead in berating this guy off the board? Chet? Midnight Son? Ana? Or will it be the typical liberal dog-pile…again?

Liberal dog-pile? Like when Richard Clarke released his book and The Daily Show showed three different cabinet officials saying almost exactly the same thing about it on three different TV shows? Shouldn’t the DNC get royalties for that?

Matthew, I’m pretty clearly talking about the liberal dog-pile that takes place here on this board against conservative viewpoints whether they’re annoying or not.

As for real-world political discussion, everybody uses talking points.

Oh, I thought you meant it was a distinctly liberal tactic. Because of the adjective “liberal”. And that it was unfair or something.

Well, I have to admit that I can’t remember seeing a conservative dog-pile on these boards, especial one that seemed determined to berate a poster off of the boards. I’m sure conservatives dog-pile liberals elsewhere though, but as I said, I was only talking about qt3.

As for fair/unfair, I don’t really see it as either. I mean, it’s just talk. It is, however, kind of disgusting (regardless of who is dog-piling). It’s not serious debate or legitimate discussion. It’s an attempt to silence opposition viewpoints. It’s like calling anti-adminstration views treasonous or anti-affirmative action views racist. And yet we’ve seen the liberal dog-pile on this board time and time again. Philomath. Lizard King. Captain Cookiepants. Damien Fagousgoutstian. For a board that I visit due to its mature discussion of games, seeing such immature discussion on politics is disheartening.

So, no, it’s not distinctly liberal (although it seems distinct to liberals on this board), and no, it’s not unfair (just sad).

Unless by “liberal dog pile” you mean “driving off Cleve Blakemore,” I’m not sure what you mean.

Philomath. Lizard King. Captain Cookiepants. Damien Fagousgoutstian. Ben. Bob Cherub. Hell, even Desslock and Rywill to lesser extents. Sure not all of them are choir boys, but I don’t recall similar dog-piles against Anaxagoras, Chet, you, quatoria, etc… The closest I can think of is a minor Cherub led revolt against Midnight Son that went nowhere.

To be fair, Cookiepants got himself banned because he was a retard.

True dat. Still, he got more than his fair share of abuse before then (well, he sure wasn’t one of the choir boys, so maybe it was a fair share…)

Were you here for the runup to the war? Sure wasn’t a liberal dog pile then.

I forgot about Cookie, because he was basically crazy. Stil not sure what you’re talking about.

Now you’re trying to claim that things around here aren’t fair for conservatives?

Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?

I think you’re wrong on Captain Cookiepants. I don’t remember him being a conservative at all. He is a less intelligent less contributory non-political albeit funnier version of Midnight Son.

Qt3 sometimes does dogpile, although you have to separate that from the simple matter that most frequent posters are liberal, so in a collection of responses to a conservative position quite naturally most will be opposing.

A dogpile as I define it is where someone responds in a thread partially in order to aid their Qt3 political status by agreeing with the majority position and/or to injure the other party without an opportunity for that party to commit recourse (by hiding behind the majority). A dogpile also alleviates the need for quality, since the point of a dogpile is a Yes-man attitude instead of providing an interesting post. A dogpile post is where you wouldn’t be posting your post’s content EXCEPT for the majority position established in the thread and/or on the board.

Dogpiles also exist the other way around, even on Qt3. When conservatives think they’ve won a point a mini-dogpile develops. Due to the lower number of conservatives, such a dogpile will never be large. This makes it no more right, however.

No matter how much we talk about logical fallacies, dogpiles are a far worse messageboard treatment. I’ll probably never forgive Gary Whitta and quatoria for their extreme dogpiling of Cleve Blakemore.

Dogpiling can be difficult to refrain from. I’ve even joined a few. In later years (and with the experience of being at the center of countless ones) I make a serious conscious effort to not dogpile, and take revenge upon myself when I do.

One of the big problems with liberal dogpiling on Qt3 is not that it drives off conservatives, but that it causes resentment among conservatives. This resentment, this injured dog reaction, causes a LOSS OF QUALITY in the posts of conservatives. This leads to additional (and now truthful!) liberal mockery which makes it a kind of vicious cycle. Then the liberals can celebrate their “defeat” of the conservative poster and laugh at how stupid conservatives are, while ignoring that they helped make them that way. This also acts preemptively, as the next conservative waiting in the wings becomes a buffoon in order to protect himself… Bob Cherub, CindySue22, Philomath. Notice that there are NO Qt3ers who can be considered Liberal buffoons (Midnight Son’s persona is an Anarcho-Nihilist).

The only way to have a continuous Liberal/Conservative debate on Qt3 is for Conservatives to have the space and the respect to exist.

Philomath. Lizard King. Captain Cookiepants. Damien Fagousgoutstian. Ben. Bob Cherub. Hell, even Desslock and Rywill to lesser extents. Sure not all of them are choir boys, but I don’t recall similar dog-piles against Anaxagoras, Chet, you, quatoria, etc… The closest I can think of is a minor Cherub led revolt against Midnight Son that went nowhere.[/quote]

Yeah, I am confused too. Are we supposed to discuss threads two at a time? Is it a dog pile if more than two of us say we’re confused by the dog pile term?

Can one person create a dog pile if that person posts multiple posts in the same thread? I know I could have just edited my last post, but I am trying for a dog pile here. :)

Anarcho-Nihilist? I like it! I hope a cyberpunk RPG comes out soon so I can get some nano-implants and shit!

Didn’t Philomath join the military?
