What are your favorite face reveals in movies? The example given was of a character in the classic film Alien: Covenant pulling back a hood to reveal the character’s face. Listen to the show to hear us go on about ours, and to hear Tom read some great listener picks. Also…please bake Kelly another cake.

Not a favorite per se, but the independent film Hunter Prey cleverly uses helmets to play with perceptions in the early parts of the movie.

Here’s my favorite:

Courtesy of the most excellent @marquac. He also made a two-part gif, to make it easier to upload, but I so love this whole sequence that I wanted to put his whole gif up, even if it meant changing the size through hosting. I love that it’s a two-part reveal, and I love how it looks as a whole.

Thank you once again, Chris!

“Admiral.”

With respect to your choice, and your inclusion of a gif, @mono, I must respectfully put up this one that @marquac put up in the animated gif thread to represent my #2 pick:

Mainly because what I love about the scene is how his face is revealed by the light streaming out suddenly from the window, and the face reveal is so abrupt. In my memory I saw it as him sliding out of the darkness to reveal his face, like a face emerging from dark liquid. I liked watching this again last week to see that it was this kind of reveal instead. And not the slow reveal, or…I don’t know…illuminated by a car’s headlights like someone suggested.

“Victims? Don’t be melodramatic.”

Just wanted to let you know I was yelling KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNN!!! In my car as I was listening to this.

I am absolutely happy to see you (both) posting that gif! I was on the bus commuting home, and couldn’t find one w/ the illuminating to reveal his face.

I need to stop writing emails and posting gifs from vehicles.

I disagree! If it means you email the show, I’ll gladly take a vehicle post from you any day of the week from any venue. Especially if it’s from a speeding vehicle that hits a thing.

Spoiler alert!

Also, I love that you sent in another email to correct it. That whole exchange made me so happy.

Ok so I haven’t actually seen Lon Chaney in Phantom of the Opera, but this image gave me nightmares as a boy -

I’m not sure what would be my picks really (so many to choose from!), but I like this one a lot:

The ‘two weeks lady’ comes to mind and I love it because we’re not even clued into it being Arnie, so it’s just a seriously WTF moment:

Master Blaster from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Watched it loads as a kid and always felt sorry for the guy once the mask was hammered off. Not the emotion I expected after such an epic fight!

And finally, the face reveal in Lake Mungo because it spooked the ever living shit out of me and the missus:

Spoiler!

You’ve got to see it. It’s great.

A face only a mother could love.

This was the one I thought Tom was referencing when he talked about the first horror reveal. Is Don’t Look Now good throughout, or should I just look for the reveal?

Don’t remember if this is the first reveal, but

A face reveal with Cary Grant style:
