underscan is kinda hidden though. the ui design for it is really really bad.

Thanks! The 10.9a hotfix, the overscan thing and changing the pixel color mode to RGB has made everything look crisp again!

Glad to have helped. The not-remembering-your-underscan was introduced with 10.7 or 10.8.
