Yeah you definitely start with one, that’s true, but the game never says you’ll need it. Sure it makes sense to hold onto it since you’re escorting a tank around after all, but the game didn’t even acknowledge the fact that it’s possible to swap it out.
Also, considering that the mission is basically the intro to the entire game, and it’s throwing such a huge variety of equipment at you, surely they expected people to experiment with the different utilities you could pick up?
It’s crazy to me how many people said this single player campaign was terrific or “one of the best” or whatever other nonsense. It’s completely mediocre. The best thing going for it is that it’s short. I guess it’s better than the last two Battlefield campaigns, but that’s the lowest bar ever.
I think the primary factor in the campaign’s favor is that it (for once!) does do a decent job of training you for flight, tanks, and of course infantry combat – without feeling like a tutorial, and the individual story bits were well fleshed out and heartfelt.
But a coherent narrative campaign, it is not. It’s more like a bunch of mini-fun-size campaigns. Which fits better anyway if you consider people will spend 60+ hours in MP and 6 in SP. 10x if not more difference.
(As you yourself pointed out, the main beef is that the Harlem Hellfighters are barely in the campaign at all, which is … weird.)
Morgan Stanley has reassessed their estimate for Battlefield 1. They originally predicted 12 million units, but they are now advising their investors that they believe EA moved 15 million units of BF1 in 2016.
Some of the launch maps are clearly clunkers, too. My most-hated maps in BF1 now are:
Monte Grappa … the verticality is tedious and makes the behemoth almost pointless. Those underground bunkers are MASSIVELY annoying if people turtle in them, too.
Ballroom Blitz … pretty, but super annoying gameplay wise. It doesn’t flow right, I feel like we either get stomped or stomp someone on this map.
Giant’s Shadow … just meh. Mostly a clone of St. Quentin Scar and not appreciably better.
The other maps I feel work fine enough and I have no beef with. Argonne forest is probably the “best” in terms of being the new Locker meatgrinder that everyone plays.

There are 20 different Ribbons to collect, and each time you get a Ribbon you also receive a 300XP. The Ribbons are designed to promote good teamplay and playing the objective.
More weapon unlocks.
It is now possible to unlock an Elite Codex for eight of the available primary weapons in the game. All you need to do is get 500 more kills per applicable weapon. Not only will you get a shiny Elite Codex, but you will also be awarded 25,000 bonus XP.
Class ranks increased.
The new max Class Rank will now be 50. At every 10 new Class Ranks you’ll receive a Battlepack, and when you hit 50, you will be granted some extra nice Class flair in the kill card to taunt your fallen foes. There will also be Dog Tags that you can unlock as you progress towards max Class Rank 50.
These new ribbons are suuuper fun! I had forgotten about the little dopamine rush you get when you get on a good run and a cool ribbon alert pops up awarding you of same.
The new medal system was definitely a bust, and the more XP you get, the stupider it feels. Oh yay 5000 XP for this super hard random medal task you want me to do? I’m nearing level 70 and it’s like 700k+ XP to make a damn level!
More fun XP facts from Reddit:
You need a grand total of exactly 20,000,000 XP to go from rank 0 to rank 100.
You hit rank 70 at about 3.75 (ish) million experience. This means the remaining 16.25 million XP is for the last 30 levels. Game slows WAAAAY down after you stop getting war bonds. The levels in the 90’s require 1 or 2 million XP each to level up.
Going from level 99 to 100 requires 2,620,000 experience.
If you scored exactly 500 experience every minute, it would take 40,000 minutes to reach rank 100. This is 666.66 (repeating of course) hours, or 27.77 days.
Pilot is the “easiest” class to rank up only requiring 25,000 XP per level.
Oh! DICE just dropped a few bits about all the rest of the DLC packs:
The expansion packs will also include 16 new multiplayer maps, 20 new weapons, and new elite classes.

March 14th for They Shall Not Pass, 28th if you don’t have premium. It looks great, and the fully mobile (ground) behemoth is definitely a first.
I love what they did with the behemoths, vs the meaningless and crashy “levolution” level events. Way better. Also a big fan of dynamic map weather. I just got a thunderstorm recently.
Download finished. But my wife has to watch a program of hers. I’m kind of excited to try this out in single player. The only World War 1 single player game I remember playing is The Darkness.
