Battlefield 2042 - DICE Goes Back to the Future, Just Not the 2142 Future

It must have, I assumed aim assist was completely absent and that’s what I read online as well. I never detected it in my limited game time!

OooOOOoooOOOooh! Is that a heatmap of kills? Or something else? Whatever the case, very nice. I seem to recall kill heatmaps for Halo, but I don’t remember them looking that good.

As you can tell from the fact that the brightest areas are at the edges of the map, it shows where your teammates drove all your team’s tanks to safely launch ineffective long range fire while you die endlessly to the other team’s tanks that are actually pushing the objectives.

Yeah I believe they said it was a heatmap of vehicles vs infantry combat highlighted zones.

These maps look spectacular. I’m more excited by these than Orbital by quite a lot.

Caspian Border is a big thumbs up from me. Love that map.

Just having all these extra maps, regardless of the rest of Portal, is a massive win for BF2042.

So if I have a PC with a 1060Ti and 6GB ram (and won’t be updating anytime soon probably) should I just get this on my Xbox Series S? Or will it play ok my PC where I have kb/m controls?

Your PC meets the minimum spec. My suggestion would be to try both! You have Game Pass for Xbox I presume? You’ll get the ten hour trial there.

Once you’ve given both a run, you’ll know which one you prefer.

On PC you also have the EA Play Pro option beyond the 10 hour trial if you don’t think you’ll get $60 worth of gameplay out of it.

Oooh. Totally forgot about the 10 hour trial thingy. Perfect.

Xbox can start pre-load today.

You can check out the Portal options here.

Pretty impressive.

Yeah, this game is loaded with stuff to make it play the way anyone chooses. Looking forward to Friday.

Multiplayer is the core of Battlefield; but we have a story to tell about our World of 2042. It will unravel over time, and plays a big role in the experience you’ll have with Battlefield 2042.

Haha marketing. “Multiplayer is the core of Battlefield.” It’s the only thing in this Battlefield.

Also, early reviews are coming out thanks to a 3-day early access review event for media folks, but there’s an important caveat to note. Per Polygon:

The event also left the game’s progression unclear. There are 22 weapons in Battlefield 2042 , with dozens of attachments for each, as well as vehicle unlocks, equipment for each unique Specialist, and more. But our review accounts were given access to all of these things from the beginning, so it was difficult to get a sense of how long unlocking new items will actually take.

Not being able to see how progression works is quite the stumbling block for reviews.

This is a big old WTF:

Battlefield 2042 doesn’t have its own voice chat — at least, not yet. During the event, EA and DICE divided players into pre-made squads and offered them Discord channels. According to DICE, there are plans to add voice chat after launch, but as of this writing, no one has confirmed to me when this might happen.

I can see that being an issue but the first thing I do in any sort of public game is mute everyone anyway. Thanks for taking the step for me, DICE! :)
