City of Heroes to Shut Down

I had the same problem. Think the farthest I got with a MM was thugs/poison up to the low 30s I think, and that was mainly due to the theme (a villain biker chick named Holly Davidson). Normally I like pet classes, but I just wasn’t as engaged in the fights as with other archetypes. Also, minion survivability became a real problem at the higher levels.

have you tried the gang war combined with the 4th speed secondary power. It lets you summon another 10 gang members! having 26 minions is freaky weird and OP for a short time!

I was really concerned with why is the mastermind got to do while their minions do their thing rather than more uber builds of masterminds. IE: If a mastermind had blaster secondaries, they could be nuking stuff while their minions did their stuff.

There are some mastermind builds where you spec more into weapons, and don’t even take the first tier of pets for example. There are actually a lot of ways to play the AT that are pretty interesting. That being said, I don’t really find any AT in CoH to be particularly engaging from a moment to moment gameplay standpoint.

I know what you mean. I am looking for interesting builds to play, which is why I was looking at Masterminds again. Now if they are interesting and powerful, that’s a bonus.

There is an AT I want. Ill need to find the link to their forums, I do not know if they can add a new AT. I would like a primary blaster / secondary controller AT to play.

Dominator is pretty close to that.

I already looked at them. Close isn’t the same. I wanted a fire blaster + ice controller. Their fire tree is missing a lot of the good stuff from fire, ie: fireball, rain of fire, and their big boom power.

The way I play Masterminds, there’s rarely a time when I’m doing nothing. The secondary set has either minion buffs or enemy debuffs that you can be using, often both. Some sets have more than others, certainly, but worst case you can always use some prestige power attacks to fill in the gaps.

When solo or in a small group, I’ll usually keep the pets in bodyguard mode (that’s defensive/follow) and start each combat with a debuff (or if none is available, walk up and Brawl them). Bodyguard keeps me from taking much damage and the pets will go to town on them.

Bigger groups, you’re generally better off staying out of the thick of things. For those situations, I set a bind for just my tier 3 pet to attack my target. The others stay in bodyguard mode for safety purposes, but they’ll still attack whatever is hitting the T3 pet.

In either case, after the initial aggro, I’m busy either keeping pets alive with heals/buffs, or going after the enemy with debuffs (or if I run out of those, attacks).

Insert thumbs up here.

This happen to anyone else? Log in. Get on Reunion. Massive lag, rubberbanding, teleporting mobs. Attacks not showing animation. Unplayable. So I log off, restart my comp. Everything fine. It’s been happening for the last three days.

I haven’t had any problems, but I’m on everlasting. Wonder if it’s server/path related?

That’s distinctly possible. The only reason I’m still on Reunion is that I started there and now have a bunch of alts. I’d hate to transfer and lose names. Otherwise, once it’s running it’s smooth as silk.

Go into the character builder on another server and check to see if the name is available before you attempt a transfer.

Good point.

So I decided that I wanted to trick out my Fire/Ice blaster with a bunch of those unique IO sets. Cheap they are not, cost me around 20 million per IO. But it makes for some crazy performance.

(Exported from the designer tool found here. Definitely easier to see in the designer tool, you can import it with the data chunk at the bottom.)

It’s pretty crazy. Capped defense against most damage types, and just a bit short on energy/negative. I kept with the ice theme for my epic pool, but a less theme-conscious build could cap energy too with the Scorpion Shield from Mace Mastery. Mez protection from Rune of Protection, though that’s only up about half the time. A whole ton of end recovery and recharge.

I can pretty easily tear through +2/x8 solo as long as I keep some break frees for when the Rune is offline. I imagine that if the game had kept going back in the day, some of these IO sets would have been toned down before being released into the wild. But the Homecoming admins certainly seem to be friendly to power creep!

Yah the difference in power between the various sets is really something, I love it. When you make a jump up into a better tier, it’s really a satisfying payoff. My Mastermind just went through an upgrade, and it I went from being ok to just destroying stuff, fun.

I learned something new over the weekend. Uncommon and rare enhancements for sale in the AH are pooled together in terms of levels. For example, I could list a lvl 31 Mako’s Bite accuracy/damage enhancement for sale, and someone else could place a bid on a lvl 50 version and buy my enhancement. This bit of information I knew already, it also applies to recipies, and is a welcome change from the way it worked pre-I25.

The thing I learned is that the attuned version of an enhancement is also bought and sold from the same pool. So when I listed that Mako’s Bite in the example above, someone could have bought it as an attuned version instead.

This bypasses the need to use catalysts to attune enhancements. Catalysts cost 20 reward merits each, and I think they’re selling in the AH for about 3-4 million. It’s a huge savings.

And of course I learned this shortly after I finished assembling a bunch of enhancement sets for my blaster. So I spent some of my Sunday selling off the newly-crafted enhancements, buy the attuned versions, and trying not to lose a bunch of money in the process.

BTW, attuned enhancements auto-adjust to a character’s current level, so they allow characters to exemplar down to run lower-level content with a higher-level character and still keep their set bonuses. To an extent, attuned enhancements can also be used to twink lower-level characters.

The changes to Spines are great. No more bananas. Now several cool looking spike sets.

My name is Silent…and I’m an altaholic. Up to 27 now…I just can’t stop. Too many interesting combinations, or character costumes I just want to create.

Can’t believe I am playing this game again after so many years. It’s good to be back.

Welcome home, Hero.
