Dawn of War 2 preview in PC Gamer UK April 10th?

Oops. Looks like that forum post was a (fan) made-up blurb from about six months ago. :( Anyway, here’s hoping it isn’t too far from that – considering that Dark Crusade and Soulstorm already have some elements of it, it seems like the only things to really debate would be which races will be included.

Um, that blurb was basically a description of Starcraft 2. :P

Meta-campaign for Starcraft 2 confirmed, then?

:P

Yeah, they would have to go at least one other race besides Eldar, Marines and Tyranid, or you’d look like a starcraft clone.

The official yadda-yadda:

The website gives a 403, and no word of Tyranids? Very suspicious!

They’re not going to announce all the (presumably) four races to begin with. They’ll say two, and leak out the rest over development.

I hope it’s not just four. There’s no way they won’t do Chaos, and I think they’d pick Eldar before Tyranids.

And after Dark Crusade, Dawn of War’s original race set seems dull.

C’mon, man. You know it’ll be four. In fact, we may be even lucky to get four.

KG

WAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

Okay, it can be four if the other two are Necrons and Tyranids. It can be three if the third is a race of eons-dormant zombie robot Tyranids. Hell, it can be one.

I hope for SM, Orks, Eldar and Tyranids.

I hope they do Tyranids, to cut down on the massive forum complaining that will result otherwise. But yeah, I’m very excited about a possible Company of War! I loved the flavor of Dawn of War, and the gritty small-scale mechanics of Company of Heroes. So we’ll see.

Blizzard may as well just fold up shop on that Starcraft 2 project. DoW2 w/ Tyranids will pwn it.

;P

My personal bet will be Tyranids and Chaos.

But I have a nagging feeling Tyranids will be saved for the first expansion pack. Which will be a fucker, but…

(I’m gonna write a ludicrous post of groundless speculation over at RPS in a bit, with my odds for each race. Including ones no fuck has heard of, probably including Relic)

Please, please, please Relic, give us skirmish (against the AI and in multiplayer) against the AI using a point system. Random maps if you can, if not, static maps ok too. But point system, finally, please!

God I hope so.

What do you mean? A point system ala the Battlefield series? DoW already has Take & Hold type victories if you don’t want to play annihilation.

I think he means a point system ala tabletop 40k. Instead of building units each side starts out with an army totalling a certain amount of points. Various rules dictate how many of those points can be spent on commanders, infantry, vehicles, etc.

So I think he wants a straight up quick battle skirmish mode with no buildings and no resources.

Ah, gotcha. Never played tabletop 40K. That sounds like something the mod community could easily implement, if it’s not already out for the current DoW series.

I’m not so sure it could be done easily as a mod - it’d require changing the skirmish menu itself to specify points limits and then having an intervening menu allowing army selection.

At the same time, I can’t see Relic doing it either.
