Dragon Quest XI - Echos of an Elusive Age

Wait – can you dual wield boomerangs? no come on…

BTW who got addicted to gambling in the first casino? Speak out. We should have therapy for that.

I did spend more time with poker there than I should have. So now the Luminary is having this solo boss fight and I got wiped because he was thinking about all the Double or Nothings he could be enjoying.

I played poker for 3 hours. I almost feel ashamed at myself. Still I wrangled 45 k tokens. I wish I was a better poker player…

I just picked up a particular pair of twins and then ran myself ragged on the Forge crafting everyone into nigh maxed out gear… That little thing is fun!

It really is. It does get a little harder and a bit more frustrating as the difficulty of the crafting jobs increases, but you also gain new abilities and points every level up so if something is too tough, level up and try later. It’s a clever way to gate something that, for instance, gives +10 health per round by default and up to +25 (!) at +3.

Also, and I’m only a few hours in, but this is by far the most clever and engaging “post-credits” sequence out there. It’s exactly like instead a full post-game expansion tacked onto the vanilla experience. It’s a mind blowing continuation of the tale, and I cannot recommend it enough.

Man, that is really exciting to read. While I’m sad that it will probably take me months to finish this, esp if I want to try to give any time at all to Kingmaker, Bard’s Tale, or StarCon before year’s end…I am really glad to know the investment will continue to pay off!

This game is making me feel very bad at RPGs. I explore everything in RPGs, I get into every nook and cranny I can. I still haven’t managed to finish a single one of the crossbow quests.

I didn’t start them right away so maybe some of the earlier areas were easier but I just spent half an hour combing an area and only got to 3/5. I need better eyes.

Even with 60 hours in before I got to the credits (let alone however long it takes me to go through the post credits stuff), I never once did the crossbow challenges. I didn’t even remember ever to find the guy you need in order to start them. I found some in the wild and shot them when I did, but trust me, there is a lot of content, don’t get hung up on this one. Unless the reward is crazy amazing. Is it crazy amazing?

I refuse to look it up, but I doubt it. It’s just annoying me that I can’t finish even one area while trying hard.

Also makes me wonder how much loot I’ve missed along the way because apparently I don’t explore as thoroughly as I think I do!

There’s a chest on an island near the volcano that’s mocking me… How, damn you, how?!

Maybe an enemy you can ride nearby?

Yes I never did the crossbow stuff. Well … I am still at level 20 or so.

We do have an abundance of rpg riches though that’s for sure.

I did one so far, in Gondolia. The reward for it was okay!

4 seeds of deftness

Was just coming in to say I’d finally gotten one done, in the Champs Sauvage. The reward was the same quantity but different variety of what you got. So the crossbow challenges definitely seem to be worth doing; not essential but certainly nice to have.

Are axes supposed to have bad accuracy in this?

I don’t know for sure, but trying to hit flying opponents is very frustrating with that skill.

Whoever stuck unskippable cutscenes in this game, or allowed a bug to prevent that to slip into production, is going to hell.

Also, the spirit void fight at the top of Angri-La is so fucking stupid.

I have a gambling problem.

I gambled in peorto whatevs for 4 straight hours. I am turning myself in.

Hey peace? Whoever made “exit game” the escape key needs to have beer cans thrown on his lawn.
